Every time we travel to Shreveport, we make it a point to stop in Logansport and eat at Big Zach's. If you're passing through and haven't stopped here yet, you really should. Everything I've tried on the menu has been excellent. The seafood is always fried to perfection--crispy, fresh, and never greasy. The hamburgers and chicken-fried steak are amazing as well and definitely worth ordering. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming. Went here for a bday lunch and it was sooooooo tasty. The service was A1 and don't get me started on the drinks. The crab cakes were soooooo good. Really everything was super fresh and tasty. Great food as always during our grad party held in their private meeting room. Awesome assistance from the entire Zach's team on moving chairs, prepping for guests. Room holds around 60 people, great decor and plenty of room for mingling. Timing of appetizers, salads, and entrees was perfect. All food was hot and fresh. Not what I expected bas d on what I had heard. Salad bar lacked hygiene; no tomatoes, no egg and olives every where. We waited 15 minutes for salad bowls and was disappointed with it. In a trip filled with terrible seafood and service this place was a becon of hope to a lost soul. Their homemade coleslaw was excellent maybe the best I've ever tasted. So yum! I am by no means a country girl and would have never stopped here if I didn't have a reason to come into Logansport. I love fried pickles and this place does the best fried pickles! The fried green tomatoes were also a delight- I have never had it before but would not hesitate to get it again if the chance arise. My friend got a six piece frog legs with baked sweet potato side was absolutely demolished. Safe to say, he loved it. I had the oyster Po'boy and though the oyster was not fried enough for me the bread tasted sooo good. The atmosphere is very friendly, clean and service was efficient and helpful. Super friendly people. Local hangout for the " higher end" people in Logansport. The bad part of that is you need to get two glasses of tea when you get your waitresses attention. They have about 8 waitresses on Friday and Saturday. It's not enough. Large groups of locals come in and they work very hard to please the locals. If you aren't local then get two glasses of whatever you're drinking. The food is very good. The appetizers and deserts are as well. It's pricey. But it is good. And your waitresses are never far. But they're going to pass you doing 200 mph to get to the table with the locals. There is a lot of big groups there. I waited an hour and fifteen minutes for my food last weekend. There's another Cajun restaurant straight across from them. It's just as good and the waitresses actually help you. I go there a lot more now. I try and avoid this place. I just don't enjoy it taking over an hour to eat. read more

Quite a nice surprise. We were just passing through town and asked a local for a recommendation. The staff was friendly and very welcoming. The menu had a nice variety of Louisiana cuisine that wasn't bad for a border town. I had the oysters po boy and fried green tomatoes. I was not disappointed. My fellow diners enjoyed their selections as well. We didn't choose the salad bar, though it looked somewhat feeble. The prices seemed a little high for a small town. I wouldn't think the average local could afford to eat here on a lunch break. All in all, we were pleased with our experience. read more

My wife and I made about a twenty minute drive to eat there and I must say we were disappointed in this restraunt. We had 8 piece fried fish and 6 piece frog legs. The fish should be called sliver pieces, and baby frog legs. The one thing I can say was the waitress was excellent. They could have done better than the one trip salad bar and the tiny bowl of $2.99 pinto beans. We are used to going to David Beards Catfish in Waskom Texas where for same price all you can eat fish, salad and pinto beans. Big Zack's Place is located about an hours drive from Shreveport. I suggest two drivers because after eating the generous portions served, getting home may take shifts of drivers. We made reservations, as our Friday night group consisted of seven hungry adults. Reservations were helpful as the place was packed with what appeared to be every living person in Logansport. We were quickly seated and our efficient waitress took drink orders. Sorry-- no alcohol available. Our table decided to order several different appetizers to sample as wide of the variety offered. Food orders followed and eating soon began. Fried pickles were a hit as were excellent fried, green tomatoes. The home made potato chips were also excellent as were the fried onion flips. Onion flips we're hand battered onion strands-- tasty but too greasy. As the main meals hit the table, we chowded down on generous portions. A monster BLT was good and much of it uneaten due to it's size. The fried catfish was top notch, better than most. Judy and I got the chicken fried steak- a large, rather bland piece of beef. A disappointment to the both of us. Our side of onion rings went uneaten as they appeared to be the store- bought , frozen kind, not hand battered like the onion flips. The home fries on most plates were ignored as being limp. I ordered a small gumbo and one stuffed shrimp. Gumbo had potential but was thin and overly tasted of file'. The stuffed shrimp was more stuffing taste than shrimp-- bland. Fried shrimp were enjoyed by those who ordered them. A trip to the salad bar was included. Stuff on the salad bar was limited but very fresh! In summary-- fried catfish and shrimp were the hit. If you are in the area, by all means enjoy some fish and appetizers with friends! read more

Took some friends there for all our first times, it was nice! I was very surprised. Food was really good, and ambience was ok. My only critique would be on the service. The girl who served us wouldn't even try to smile, and clearly the whole of the staff disliked gays. My boyfriend and I could clearly see the employees were not thrilled at that. Which I don't mind, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but when you're in the restaurant business, you should make everyone FEEL welcome. That aside though, I'll most likely be back! There are few restaurants to choose from in Logansport but this is still a winner! We started with the fried pickles and they are AMAZING!! Light, crisp, tangy, and heaping! I had the fettuccine with blackened shrimp (watery and bland sauce, but great shrimp) and my husband had chopped steak with brown gravy (he said was tasty). I shared his fried okra (as good as the pickles) and left full and satisfied (although I left half the pasta - just wasn't worth the carbs and calories!). Stopped in about an hour before closing on a Friday evening. Restaurant was pretty busy. I watched the server half wipe our table before we were seated. The table was sticky. The other tables had a glass top and ours did not. Don't know if this had anything to do with it, but still a sticky table was a turn off. I ordered seafood gumbo and my friend ordered fish and stuffed crab combo. She said hers was fine. Gumbo was OK. Roux was soupy and bland. Food temp was warm, not hot. Service was not bad, just amateur. A little pricey. Salad plate was a small saucer. I hate to judge on one visit, so I'll give them another try when they are less busy. read more

Enjoyed the Mardi Gras parade in Logansport tonight, then walked to Big Zachs for a meal. It was a full house, but the service was still speedy and cheerful. We had the fried pickles for an appetizer. They were cooked perfectly and served with ranch. Two choices for sizes on my chicken fried steak: regular and large. I went went regular and it was still a very good portion. Tender, not overly battered. daughter had whole fried fish. It was fresh, flaky and cooked perfectly. Other Daughter had a baked potato. ( side the rest of us had too.)It was a large portion. Lots of fixings. We all had side salads too. Son had New York strip, cooked perfectly medium. Juicy juicy! We picked up 3 lbs of boiled crawfish to go at the end of our trip for hubby at home. He inhaled them! Lots of seasoning. Side of cob corn and potato cooked perfectly. You can tell all of our food was cooked with care and attention to detail. Hard to find these days in a fast food world. The service is always with a smile.
