It's buffet style service. I am not a huge fan of buffets, but the food quality and cleanliness was very good. My food was hot and fresh. We arrived around 5 pm. We ate veggies, fried and baked fish, taco salad, black eyed peas and rice. My wife had the sugar free desserts and thought they were ok. I had the apple cobbler. It was hot, fresh, and delicious. The ice cream was just ok. It was a soft serve that was bland. The restrooms were clean and well stocked. Overall impressions were positive

We arrived with the Sunday lunch crowd, so there was a line out the door. They know what they're doing here though as the staff moved the line along quickly and effeciently, even taking you to your table so you don't have to walk around looking for one. Super friendly staff that checked on us often and kept our used plates cleared as soon as we slid it to the side. The food... there's fried catfish, chicken, okra - actually I'm not going to even try to list everything that was available! There's a Mexican section too. I picked up a whole jalapeno from that section that set my mouth on fire. Besides the jalapeno, I personally had the fried catfish, okra, green beans, fried shrimp, and black eyed peas (which I smashed so they wouldn't roll off my plate). That was the first course. Returned once more for more gut busting deliciousness. Hubby enjoyed the fried chicken. It was crispy, hot, and juicy inside. I wish we had this place where we live. We'd be here all the time! Highly recommend this place!

Asparagus is our favorite side, but we are working our way through the sides and deserts. Service is very prompt and professional. Excellent service on all visits. If you are staying overnight in the area, book a room at the Fredonia Hotel. Restaurant and Hotel are together. The quietest hotel room I have stayed in over my 40+ years of travel. So happy that we've been able to pass through and enjoy dinner at the hotel. Small college town, with some super nice people. Put it on your to-do list if you are passing through.

We were seated in the bar section in some very low and comfortable seats that became significantly less comfortable when trying to lean forward and eat. That did wonders from my usually sore back, let me tell you. I had their stuufed flounder and even though it looked more like two crab cakes than a fish, it was actually pretty good. I was happy with it. My wife, on the other hand, ordered a sirloin cooked medium (pink center). What she got was a well-done steak. If this were Denny's and this happened to a $18.99 steak it wouldn't be a big deal but this was at a prime steakhouse and the stead was about $60. My wife went ahead and ate it because she said it still tased good even though it was not what she asked for but the last quarted of the steak because so very grey and dray that she could go no further. She pointed the issue to the server (who didn't even apologize or even seem bothered) and asked that he show the remainder of the $60 boot sole to the manager. Now, we were not looking to recieve any sort of compensation or anything like that. My wife simply wanted the issue acknowledged by the manager since the steak was so expensive and was not cooked correctly. The manager never bothered to show up. This is a clear indication that the management of the Republic Steakhouse doesn't really care about either the quality of the food or the satisfaction of the guests. This is a shame because there is alot to like otherwise. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we will be visiting them again. One final tip for the bar staff: If you are going to charge $18 for an Old Fashioned, you either have to make it good or fill the glass. Pick one.

The potato's and "green beans" (haricots verts) were so amazing and delicious. The dessert was so tasty, I couldn't stop eating. The appetizer (spinach and artichoke dip) was so delicious, I wish it had just a little more spinach in it but overall I loved the chunky artichoke and all the cheese. The chips were a side to it and they appeared freshly baked and super crispy. Heavily seasoned but perfect. Everything was just amazing. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived (around 5p is when they opened) but picked up later in the evening. There is a small bar where happy hour starts around 4p. It was a great experience. The staff was great! Our waiter (Scott) was extremely friendly and had the perfect amount of "checking on us" timing. He wasn't doing too much or too little. He checked on us at the right moments and was extremely patient when we were deciding dessert. He was quick to take our order and got us our food in a timely manner. Everything was just perfect. The service was always great, the food was top notch and the drinks were fantastic. Kilgore and Longview in general just do not have much fine dining. Jack Ryan's was the diamond in the rough. At some point in 2024, Jack Ryan's made a decision to close doors to the general public (outside of private events). My partner and I were crushed as this one of our first picks when it came to going out. In late 2024, they decided to revert their decision and re-open to the public. We were elated. I came here on NYE with my fiance. The hostess working here at the time had a terrible attitude. Our server was mediocre. The food was good - but we could tell it was a different vibe from before. With it being a holiday - we assumed that was the reason for the less than par experience. 3 weeks later, we came back with my brother from out of town. He had a refined palette - so I did what anyone would do trying to impress their brother in ETX - and took him to Jack Ryan's. I made reservations for 5 weeks in advance to be told by the same hostess from weeks before that I had no reservations and could not be seated. After some push back, we were seated near the bar area. It turns out our server was actually the solo bartender for the night. What a nightmare that was. She was absent for most of the night. Drinks were slow. She was nice and this was not her fault. Her company set her up for failure. It was very disappointing! About a week later, I called to complain to the manager, Jason. He apologized profusely and told me to give them another shot. He would make sure we were taken care. While we likely will give them one more chance - I'm pretty much done with Jack Ryan's. Their service has been terrible. The food doesnt have the same magic as before. The bathrooms weren't as clean. I would question coming here and dropping a few hundred dollars until they can get their sparkle back.
