And, every week, I leave my school with a big grin on my face, and restored faith in humanity. If only we could all be like second graders! The APIE folks make it EASY to volunteer. They give you, and each child, a workbook full of stories and activities for each week, so no planning is required. And, you're not ever alone - a program coordinator is there each week, along with six or so other volunteers. They've also got the timing down pat - you volunteer for exactly 45 minutes per week, making it possible for me to drive down from work, volunteer, and drive back in a single lunch hour. They are trying to scam you into several thousand dollars to get all the independence you need, but keep reading. You will regret paying an outrageous amount of money. Don't stop reading this review because this will "rethink" your decision to apply to College Living Experience. Their staff is so disrespectful, dishonest, and rude. Like, I'm NOT kidding. They don't have the proper certification to take with individuals that have intellectual disabilities, and their budgeting class that Chris Sheppard is teaching is a joke. His LinkedIn specifies that he's not a major in budgeting, and his major is sociology. Look at the pictures. It says right on there that he's a sociology major. He should be a social coach, NOT budgeting. Chris was so mean and disrespectful when I had him for budgeting class. Every time I saw him, I wanted to run away from him. He said when I forgot my mask, I asked him, "should I wear a mask since I forgot?" He said, "I can't make you wear a mask like you are lying." Like, why would I lie about this?! Does he think I'm not adequately educated?! Also, Jennifer Golden is not a good social coach at all. I'm super disappointed that I didn't NOT get the help that I needed. She cursed at me when we had sessions together and felt very violated and disrespected. This is not how they should do business, which is NOT okay. In all honesty, go to Austin Community College and see Samantha Thomson, the Success Coach. She is way better than the people at CLE. They are honestly ripping you off. Samantha Thomson is a better success coach and is CERTIFIED with individuals with intellectual disabilities. She has a master which proves that she wants to work in the field. The company must be strict about getting certified to work since they are all intern practicum students. STAY AWAY FROM COLLEGE LIVING EXPERIENCE and find some resources at Austin Community College. They are a lot better and hands-on. DON'T SIGN UP at CLE; you will regret your decision.

I recently attended an event here with about 300 attendees. The food service was 4 stars as well with carnivore, gluten-free, and vegetarian options for lunch. It was a nice touch to have the servers offer each table refills on their drinks and to clear our plates. There is also a covered patio that I used to catch up on work. There is complimentary WiFi that was pretty resilient even with the 300 attendees and vendors accessing it.

This program does not provide much of either. The facilitator seemed more concerned about paperwork than setting a future teacher up for success. Supposedly there is a teacher shortage but you wouldn't know not by the way the program is run. You would hope they would do everything they could to make sure someone who wants to be a teacher is successful and prepared. It seems like they need to revamp their whole program, would not recommend it to anyone unfortunately.

I got a very flexible instructor Marcela from Mexico City currently residing in the Midwest to teach Spanish. She had such a jovial disposition and a good understanding of not just her native language and culture but ours. She pointed out what words or phrases no one uses and easier ways to say things. We wrote, we spoke, we learned. I'd love to do it again. I just hope my instructor is Marcela. The next person has very big shoes to fill. The courses are twice a week for an hour and a half for 8 weeks. They're fun but there is no syllabus and your learning is catered to you not a piece of paper.
