Hash browns were hot with a very nice light crisp to them, not overdone or soggy at all. Came with fresh fruit, a nice variety of strawberries, cantaloupe, melon, banana and apple. As hard as I try, no complaints or even constructive criticism. In summary: "Nailed It". Not from Ottawa but will absolutely return if in the area again. read more

The food was alright... I got the chocolate strawberry banana crepes, and there was barely no chocolate and the inside was JESG BANANA. I was very disappointed. One of the other kids got a steak and it looked great but there were no sauces and it was dry. This is a place that you do NOT want to go with 5+ people... the waters are nice but will be arguing for your table instead of taking your order, also we made a reservation and arrived about 10 minutes before and the table we were going to be in was jest getting there food. So they split us up into 4 different tables across the room. This place is very cute but not much room for a lot of people. Last time I ate here was in the late 90s. It's nice to know that nothing has changed in 30 years. Portions are still huge. Service is still excellent. Coffee still sucks, but it's brown and hot. Their name is very appropriate. They serve really big portions. They have quite an extensive menu that includes a vast choice of breakfast items but don't get me wrong, it's not just a breakfast joint. I found the prices a bit high (such as 8.95 for a side of fruit) but then when you consider the portions I guess it's not so bad. They do have several lunchtime specials that are quite reasonable that include soup. I got six pieces of bacon with my bacon and eggs and my husband had the largest smoked meat sandwich I've ever seen. Service was great too. read more

My husband and I have been trying out different places for breakfast over the past few weeks. Bigg's was a hit! They have a huge breakfast menu that is served all day and includes eggs, waffles, pancakes, French toast, omelettes, etc. All of these come with a wide variety of choices such as ham, bacon and freshly cut fruit. The portions are huge. We ordered the breakfast special which consists of 2 eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage or ham, toast and coffee. This costs $6.79 but is only served until 11am. We ordered scrambled eggs with bacon. The food was very good and the home fries are the best we've had yet. The service was quick and friendly,too. We will be going back for sure. read more

This place isn't called Bigg's for nothin'. Portions here are HUGE! Interesting, yet random interior decorating. I believe I was seated by what might of been the owner, and he greeted us with the smile. Our server was very nice, and food came out fairly fast. Nothing special about this place, the food was just alright to me. Only main positive was that portions were very giving, so you definitely get your money's worth. As with all things that come in large portions, the quality of the dishes weren't really up there. Would I come here again? Probably not, but it was nice to say that I've at least tried it. I work overnight. I come here for breakfast at all different times. The food is made fresh, hot and delicious. My wife and I really enjoy coming here. It is money well spent. Tonight, we showed up after 7pm. I ordered breakfast. The only bad thing, for us, is that Biggs serves the respectful people, and jerks. We were sitting behind some foul mouthed, immature diners. The wait staff handled the kids (younger than I) with such finesse. I work in customer service. The wait staff were amazing. I know the food is very well prepared and presented. Plus, the prices are very fair, for the meals. I am a repeat customer, even when immature diners eat with me. read more

My friends father recommended this restaurant for breakfast so we rushed over to get there by 11am to make sure we got the $8 breakfast special (meat, 2 eggs, toast, homefries and coffee). We sat on their humungous patio and it was nice out but a little noisy from multiple fire trucks going by. The staff is all quite friendly. The portions were a good size and the food was all properly cooked and tasted great. I don't think there is a huge difference between this place and other breakfast joints but it definitely was good. The place is family run from what I understand, which does bump it up in my books. The parking lot is a little funky to get into and out of but there is loads of parking which is a huge plus and we didn't have any lineup but I have been told there often is a lineup. read more

This is a great place to eat if you are with a large group. The menu really had something for everyone and the food arrived within a reasonable amount of time. All of the portion sizes were quite large and could easily have been split between two people. They have a great patio outside that has an umbrella at each table, easily accommodating anyones' preferred amount of sunshine. Unfortunately, the food quality had left something to be desired. I had tried this restaurant for their wings platter when I first moved to Canada, and ever since I go to this place from time to time in order to satisfy my hunger for those juicy voluptuous wings. As a stop from our shopping in Ottawa, we stopped here not knowing what to expect. We stopped there on a Saturday afternoon. The good: Food is really good and tasty. Good size portions. Service was also good. Place was quiet (we were alone in the place). The bad: We waited forever until we got our plates. Decors is nice but not enough to create an actual theme (a few old license plates and some statues is not enough). They had one mix bathroom which was bad. The prices are quite expensive $$$, more than the usual restaurant. Managers "yelling" at their staff in front of customers does not sit well with me, go behind doors (I saw two People do that (man and woman) do that to a kid that was cleaning). The food is terrific if you are willing to pay 3 to 4 dollars more than other places. read more

Prior to coming here for breakfast, my coworker assured me that Bigg's is an established diner in Ottawa - been around for years, consistently good brunch, so on and so forth. While true, I have learned to take his word with a grain of salt. The breakfast menu is indeed wide and varied - waffles, omelettes, crèpes, benedicts, etc. While all delicious-sounding, the prices (which were reasonable, but I would not say cheap, even with the large portions) made me turn to the breakfast special instead ($6.99 before 11AM). I took mine with scrambled eggs, brown toast and three sausages (also comes with homefries, toast and coffee). The portions for the special are not that huge. It's a lot of food, but I would say it's just typical. Taste-wise, there's absolutely nothing to write about. The service, which really cinches it for me in this review, is spotty at best. Yes, we were waiting for people to show up, but even after we've taken our orders, it still took extraordinarily long for our food to arrive (it wasn't busy either). I could have cooked the same breakfast at home and taken 20 minutes tops. It would have tasted just as good too. After our orders came, we weren't asked how it was - or if we needed anything else. I was lucky that my end of the table got refilled for coffee enough, but the other end - not so much. Like I said... spotty. I really understand the tradition bit - and good on the people who have kept coming back. But with better and cheaper options elsewhere, there's absolutely no reason for me to start a brunch tradition here. read more

I had lunch today with my niece and sister, the pogo they served to the little one looked like it was mouldy and pass the dead stage glad she cut it open to cool down otherwise she may have ended up in hospital ... the chicken fingers we had we paper thin over cooked and not enjoyable at all. The pogo was replaced with a FRESH one , I feel they could have comped the kids ice cream since they could have given her food poisoning. wouldn't recommend it to any one. read more

Won't be coming back. My wife and used to go to the Biggs on Maivale all the time 10 or so years ago. I didn't know there were any left in the city. We found the one on St Laurent today and took the kids. It was noon but they didn't even bother to bring us lunch menus cause the figured we'd want breakfast. After we ordered I asked for a second cup of coffee. Then we waited and waited. We never saw our waitress again till the food came. I'd asked for a second cup of coffee ordered, it never came. When the food came our smoked meat and fries were less than warm. I usually give restaurants more than one chance, but St Laurent has so many better places, so I don't think so. read more

Great experience. Busy but efficient, we were seated quickly and treated to huge portions of 4 great dishes. Ordered a side of smoked salmon, turned out to be a meal in itself! Reasonable prices for portions and service was great. I personally prefer a more home-style home fry done on a grill top as opposed to a deep fryer but overall a great experience and will definitely be back when in the area. read more

Dont waste your money or time coming here. we ordered here and waited and waited for our food. It took 45 min to get our food and it was only breakfast, nothing extravagant. When our food did arrive it was disgusting , sausages part raw and crepes where like cardboard. Seriously you could not eat the crepes. When we told the waitress, she showed the chef , oops i wouldn't call him a chef,i meAnt cook the crepes and all they took off was the coffee. We were to attend a post wedding brunch at this restaurant and all 30 of us had been asked to arrive 15 minutes early to get our tables. When we arrived we were told that only 10 of us could be seated and the other 20 would have to stand and wait for the next tables to free up. We asked why we couldn't use some of the 6 tables that were free around us, but apparently they were going to be used for those without reservations standing in line.When the bride tried to reason with the owner, the owner started throwing derogatory remarks at her calling her "little wife" and "little girl". We now go to Biggs often because of their gluten free toast. But sadly my food restrictions are severe and today their service was even more outstanding. We poured over the menu with out waitress she made several suggestions and voila the kitchen made my food gluten free onion free lactose free and it was perfection. Nice place. I went twice for breakfast. The first morning I took French crepes with fruits and English creme. The meal was very good and there was so much food in my plate I couldn't finish it. The price is fair considering the amount of food. The next morning I had eggs with bacon. Once again very good (my boyfriend didn't appreciate his eggs over-easy) but mine were ok. The owner is fabulous but the server told us that she was with a large group, so that made it okay or us to wait 45 mins for our food, while many other small groups that came in after us ate and left while we waited. Went with a friend and kids. we all got the the breakfast special. It was awful. The bacon was so over cooked when you poked it it crumbled to pieces. The eggs were like rubber the toast was way to dry and with just butter in the middle. The home fries tasted like they were made a week ago. The sausages were way over cooked but were greasy. I feel the place has a false advertisement or they just try to get us in with the half price Fajita special. I was their today and ordered two of the special and confirmed that with the waitress. She advised that it is a good portion. When I asked for the bill, I was surprised with a 65$ plus tip. I asked the manager why am I charged so much and the sign outside say half price. He looked at me weird and made me feel very uncomfortable to the point I did not want to even argue over the overpriced meal. I paid the bill and walked away very disappointed.
