I am a senior citizen and the Lock on my bike got damaged by someone trying to get the lock off the bike to steal it. The lock held but the keyhole was damaged. I needed to have the lock ground off to replace it. My bike is an electric trike and way too big and heavy to get into the trunk of my car. I called The Bike Doctor and spoke to Kevin. I previously gave Bike Doctor 5 stars due to their service department doing great work. My last visit there would have been my last visit ever if I had not previously had such a good experience. I asked the salesman if they had any chain degreaser and his reply was simply 'nope'. I waiting a moment then asked if they ever carried it. He answered 'if it's not on the shelf, we can't get it'. Seriously? No explanation, just that. It's a bike shop and they can't get chain degreaser? I went to Annapolis Velo asking for it, but they too were out. Disappointed. Brought my bike in to get a tire fixed. They fixed it & said I need to have my breaks fixed. I said no thanks I just ride around Quite Waters Park. Pick up the bike and the tires fixed. Didn't notice that my back brake was completely broken; which, it wasn't when I dropped it off. Now, my bike is old so I understand if it snapped when fixing the tire. No, big deal, but you should have pointed that out & said hey look at your back break you NEED to fix it. I would have gotten it fixed. Well, I'm going to get it fixed but by another shop. read more

Brought my trek ex7 in for service after not having ridden for a year because of injury. Asked them to go over it and see what needed to be done for it to be in top shape. Was told it needed new cassette and chain ring, just over 100$ with labor. Got the bike back the same day with the work done, however when i took it for a ride it had no power in the rear break and middle front chain ring was broken. Took the bike back in they told me that they check the breaks in the tune up but though they were fine, guess the fact that the back break dident work wasn't something critical to the bike, nor was a second gear. Said they could order the parts that would take another week to come in.... They have no problem selling you a bike for thousands of dollars, but apparently taking in a bike for service and walking out with all critical components working seems to be a problem read more

There are several bike shops near this bike doctor store and you'd be better off going to any one of them. After they sold a family member the wrong size bike ( we were just beginners at the time) we swore we'd never go back. But we needed a new tube on a Sunday when our favorite shop was closed and figured we could just stop it for a quick purchase. Several customers were wandering around clearly looking for something and after a short search we found the tubes behind the 2 salesmen sitting at the counter- one eating ice cream out of the half gallon container and one making fun of different customer names he read off a computer screen After reaching around them to get the tube we politely waited to be rung up- we waited 10 minutes standing right in front of them .at no time did they say just a minute I'll be right with you or anything. we asked to be rung up up but after being ignored we left the items on the counter and told them we will never be back Try any local bike shops close by including Trailwerks or family bike of Crofton or another bike doctor franchise but avoid these guys read more

Totally dissatisfied with customer service on my last visit, I stopped in to pick up a tube and stood at the counter waiting to be served, the store associate was doing something on the register. he never acknowledged that I was standing there in front of him. A 2nd associate came over to the other register picked up his quart of ice cream and started eating ice cream and talking with the 1st associate about possible pronunciation of different customers names in the data base. They were absolutely oblivious to the fact that customers were standing in front of the register waiting to be served. Went to Bike Doctor last week with a broken gear shift. The broken part was a non-standard size but they were able to find a replacement in stock and install it for a very reasonable price. The following week I was unfortunately still having problems shifting, so I brought my bike in again and they said that the replacement piece had wiggled its way loose. They tied it securely in place, gave it a test run, and I was on my way again in no time at all. I am very happy with their service. They were very polite and both times they took the time to explain to me what had happened and how they were fixing it. I didn't feel like they treated me any worse than any other customer, even though I didn't have a fancy ride and I clearly am not a bike enthusiast. I know that can be a problem at some hoity-toit shops in the area, but that wasn't my experience here at all. I just moved to Annapolis for the month and stopped in seeking help to fix my fender, which had become misaligned after a rough ride in the back of a friend's car. I can't speak to their repairs department, but I recently bought a bike from them and couldn't be happier with the service. I walked in not knowing much (other than that I'm moving into DC and need a bike), and he spent about an hour showing me many options on their floor, as well as others they didn't have in stock but could order through a distributor. I was 50/50 on whether I would get a bike or not and told him that, and he still spent a large amount of time going over the pro's and con's of many bikes, as well as letting me take them out to the parking lot and spend some time riding them. This is by far the best bike shop in Annapolis. I have bought two bikes from the local shop and have had an excellent experience both times. The staff are all very knowledgeable, friendly and never pushy. Plus, the store has great deals on a decent selection of bikes and gear. It offers a lifetime warranty on all bikes and free unlimited tune-ups. The shop also hosts group rides on a weekly basis. I brought my Specialized hybrid bike in for repairs because the front derailleur was not shifting through all the gears. The associate told me I needed a "tune up" for about $80. He said they would adjust the gears and brakes. I took the bike home 10 days later and the problem hadn't changed at all. I brought it back and the same associate tried to suggest that something must have happened to it on my rack on the way home. They then replaced the shifters for an additional $45. When I asked if I had to pay for the "tune up" as that appeared to be irrelevant to the problem, I was told yes because they already adjusted everything. Hmmmm. read more

Here's a tip, guy: if someone makes a large purchase like a bike, it's customary to say things like "hello" or "thank you" or "come again." Don't let the initial impression fool you! These guys are horrible, and I will never set foot in their shop again. If you don't do your own full extensive research on the bike you want. They will take advantage of your ignorance and sell you last year's model at full 2011 prices. Jack, one of their techs, moves too fast and does not pay attention to details and the needs of the customer. Example, I wanted new Hardcase H2 tires. I walked in with the size, and print out of the exact tire I wanted mounted on my wheels. I come back to pick up the wheels and Jack had mounted H4 Hardcase tires instead. Then tried to tell me that there really wasn't a difference between the H2 and the H4, and I should be fine with what he gave me. How can you do that in this day and age when I've already done my full online research and I know the difference between the two and I've already made up my mind. From my experience a LBS is supposed to take care of and educated the consumer, making sure they are happy with their shop experience. Not, take advantage of them like a common "Used Car" salesman. There are too many bike shops in the area to deal with pricks like them. Don't ignore these reviews. I did and thought these people out here with bad experience were few and far between, then it happened to me. Heed our warnings, shop elsewhere. read more

While this store has a lot of bikes and equipment as the previous reviewer said, I have not had the same experience. I find their service to be horrendous and the attitude of the management to be equally poor. I find them to be arrogant and insulting. I have used their service department three times and had pretty much the same experience each time. After buying two bikes for my wife and myself and being assured of prompt efficient service, on each of the three occasions, I have been made to wait 7 - 10 days for minor repairs. The most recent - a broken spoke - I removed the tire from the rim for them. This is a 15 minute repair - they wanted 9 days to perform the work. When I complained they told me they had over 60 bikes ahead of me - I suggested they might benefit from some additional repair people - the manager started counting repair employees and said, "I don't think so!" When I mentioned that when I purchased the $3000 worth of bikes I was promised fast and efficient service , the response was that people who spent way more than that had to wait too. I found that insulting. When I suggested I would not be frequenting the shop anymore, the manager said, " fine." So I'd suggest you may want to purchase your bike and equipment somewhere else unless you are willing to put up with this attitude and wait inordinate amounts of time. I don't know about you, but when my bike doesn't work, I don't get advance notice and I want to get back on it as soon as possible. Ten days is a long time for minor stuff. By the way - Capitol Bike repaired my spoke in less than 15 minutes while I waited. Guess I know where I'll be going from now on. read more
