Looking for a bike rental, we went to this one on October 30, 2025, based on the good reviews…read more The employee there was polite and informed me about the formalities and costs. 3 adult and 2 children's bikes, plus 2 children's helmets and 1 phone holder, cost €98 for 24 hours, plus a passport or a €250 deposit via credit card. (I chose the credit card for security reasons.) When we picked up the bikes, we immediately pointed out that the brakes on one of them weren't working very well, but the employee said it was fine and refused to give us a different bike. Since we had already paid, we reluctantly took the bike anyway. Unfortunately, we only discovered during our first ride that several of the bikes had underinflated tires (we fixed this ourselves at a bike shop along the way). The worst part, however, was that only one of the five bikes had a working light system; all the others had either no lights or broken ones, forcing us to ride practically invisible through the Amsterdam dusk, which was absolutely unacceptable with our two small children. We explained the problems to the employee the next day when we returned the bikes, but he simply dismissed them with the excuse, "That's the technician's job; he comes twice a week, so it's not his fault." Yes, the rental prices seem quite reasonable for Amsterdam, but the bikes are woefully inadequate, and we would never book with them again! Stay away from this shop!

King Bikes was horrible!! I've done several bike tours of…read moreEuropean cities and they've all been fabulous EXCEPT King Bikes Amsterdam. RENEE was our guide. His comments were racist, sexist, and homophobic. He rode so fast it was almost impossible to keep up, and most of our group is very fit! After we asked him to slow down, he still sped off! He also made up his own "facts" about the city. One example being the three Saint Andrew's crosses in the coat of arms in the Amsterdam flag. He said they had no religious meaning at all... and stand for fire, water, and wind. Most searches show the crosses mean Valiant, Steadfast, and Compassionate, a motto to represent the non-Jewish people of Amsterdam who protested against the Nazi regime. I won't even repeat the offensive remarks Renee made while we were stopped across the street from the Anne Frank house. What a terrible bike tour!! Paula A.

I prefer to go on tours at the beginning of my trip as it helps with figuring out how to get around the city as well as discover attractions and sites I may not have been aware of. When I went to Europe in 2015, my friend recommended Sandeman's New Europe tours. The tour is free, but you're expected to tip the guide at the end of the tour, which is a win-win for everyone -- you don't need to pay more than you can afford, and the guide ends up making a decent amount. And because their wage depends on what people will pay them, the tour guides make an effort at being knowledgeable, entertaining, and personable. Sandeman's also offers paid tours to certain attractions. I've previously been on free Sandeman's tours in Berlin and Prague (as well as some paid tours), and the tour guides have been excellent, so I signed up for a free tour on our first full day in Amsterdam. Unfortunately it was raining at the beginning of the tour, but despite the weather, I had a good time and learned a lot about Amsterdam's history. The tour was two hours and started in Dam Square. The name of our tour guide was Pau, and she was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. If you like learning about the history of the cities you visit and don't want to spend an arm and a leg, I highly recommend Sandeman's New Europe tours. "Damn a flat tire!" belongs to the standard vocabulary of most people living in Amsterdam. So I was…read morenot surprised to find a startup called like that, offering mobile bike fixing service. But I WAS surprised that in bike city no one came up with this idea erlier. I saved their number on my mobile phone despite my naive hope that I'll never have to call them. Shortly after I had to and I was thankful to hear that one of them was in the hood and I didn't have to wait too long. The guy came equipped with spare wheel, bike pump and toolset. The bike was quickly fixed and I don't remember what the service cost but I do remember that it is very good value for money and no extra urgency charge. So, I recommend everyone to save the number of DAFT to get quick hassle-free help in bike emergencies.

The bike technician…read morewas even there a few minutes early and beat me to the spot since of course I got blocked by a draw bridge, then a closed road, but he called me and we met up shortly after. He went above and beyond to fix my husband's bike. He put the pedal crank back on, tightened a few things and oiled the chain. Very nice guy. I emailed them over a holiday weekend, so it took a little while to get a response since we had to go back and forth a bit. Very convenient, but I had to wait an extra day since they couldn't meet me until after 11am. And even though I asked for the price ahead of time, they forgot to send it to me. Though, I think the cost was reasonable. I would just make sure you know the price before you go if it's not already on the price list. You can pay in cash or they will invoice you and you can transfer the funds that day. They have an app, but it's iOS only for now. :(
