Make sure everything, I mean everything is in writing especially things that impact cost. Get all change orders in writing and track the costs. They try high pressure tactics days before closing with surprise overages, to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars with no advanced notice. Good experience. This was the first time my family had a home built for us. The step-by-step process was given to us when we started. The home we built took about 8 months to complete and we were able to close on time. The best part of it was when my wife got to go to the design center and sat with a professional to help make choices that were good for us. Could not be happier with that part of the build. I went to Southport to see about buying there. Sales person was very nice but because of their rules, I couldn't build on the one remaining lot that was available . I would have to wait until a new section opened up and prices would have gone up. Very disappointing to say the least. THE WORST EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD!!! RUN!!! BILL CLARK HAS KILLED OUR "NEW FAMILY HOME DREAMS"! We have priorly owned 2 Nev Development homes and 3 other existing. We decided to purchase a spec home halfway through from Bill Clark for our family of 6 + Dog There has been nothing but problems after the home was completed it was the worst drywall job/paint job, the windows were not working correctly and completely off track Doors not shutting or lined up FULL DOOR FRAMES completely off track!.... to add we had a PIPE BURST at our front door 2 weeks after we moved in and now they want us to upload a complete list of LITERALLY almost 30 items that is wrong of the house into a file (like we have the time for that) instead of them making it convenient for US it is on their time NOT THE CONSUMER!! Which for sure makes sense....... They took 2 weeks to fix the pipe and now they are dragging their feet on the 700k home we bought from them just 5 weeks ago and very slow to ZERO responses...ALL OF THIS WHILE $ KIDS ALL IN SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS US TRYING TO RUN A NATIONAL COMPANY......ITS ALL ABOUT BILL CLARK NOT THE CONSUMER!!!! read more

If you are looking for the worst possible customer service and project management while spending your hard earned money on your dream home then Bill Clark Homes is for you. I agree with the frustration of the previous reviewers with the exception of the landscaping because we had Blooming Crazy do our landscaping project, Josh and his crew get a 5 out of 5 rating. But, paint everywhere, thin paint, poor quality sheet rocking, wavy wall in bonus room, completely wrong truss package which required remediation after the roof shingles were on, tray ceiling was eliminated by us and well we have one since the package was wrong, complete disrespect for cabinets by subcontractors resulting in multiple scratches and dings. I could go on for hours. The customer service is where I would like to focus: There is none!!! Repeatedly being told "Trust your builder" "Your house is not done yet" and one of my very favorites from Clint the "project manager" "I don't know, I only build what is on the plan" Well Clint if that is true then the truss package would not be wrong, outlets would not be wrong, the inlay in the kitchen would not be wrong, we only agreed to the tray ceiling in the nook out of fear of what the repair would look like. Our house would have stood a chance of being built correctly if the build prints were kept in the proper location the builder box on a stake instead of in a corner of the garage buried under a pile of trash where we found them. My husband is a project manager (PMP certified) and he was meticulous going over the plans and finding the deficiencies of Bill Clark Homes before many errors became "fix after the fact" this was not appreciated instead he was essentially told to stop and put items on "the Punch List" to tear apart after we are living in the home. We have been in our house 3 weeks and "The Punch List" is a joke. We spent hours yesterday on our hands and knees getting paint off the custom tile floors in the bathrooms, oak treads to the bonus, and luxury vinyl plank flooring (we have no carpet). This morning my husband checked to see the size of filters for recirculation and you couldn't see through the current filters because of sheet rock dust and large pieced of dried sheetrock mud (we have been in our home 3 weeks). The list goes on and one. AND THEN THERE IS THE UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES AND PRICE GOUGING BY HEATH CLARK HIMSELF. "I build houses for a profit, I don't have to build your house" When we have documentation proving Bill Clark Homes staff could not get our footings in the ground with in 6 months starting with their staff inability to get us in the design center for a month, instead of the contract stated 14 days!!!!!!! This price gouging consisted of the increase of $70,000 dollars $30,000 of which we had tacked on our price. Yes, they would of refunded us our money only to start over after all the builders raised their prices due to "The Pandemic." Seriously, Heath Clark himself told my husband the above quotes and one of my favorites "We have a staff member out on maternity leave" Now I am a oncology nurse not a OB nurse but, I do know as a nurse in general and a mother of 2 there is usually a 9 month notice for pregnancy. As others have commented, the experience was awful and led to a frustrating exchange with the owner. He was aggressive and spoke in a manner very unbecoming of anyone, much less a representative for a company claiming "superior service" and an enjoyable building process. During the build process, the super told us repeatedly he didn't have time to "babysit" the build. In terms of quality and attention to detail...the house was unlivable on closing day. There was a gas leak in the house, the water heater wasn't connected, and the plumbing/sewer wasn't functioning. The entirety of the interior was painted and repainted 3 times, 1/2 of the kitchen cabinet doors had to be replaced, door handles were installed in different ways - sometimes the lock was on top, sometimes it was on the bottom, outlet covers are a different sheen - some are gloss, some are matte, duct vents aren't aligned, the front yard didn't drain, there were gaps in the back door, the front door mechanism was broken, and the PAC took 6 months to complete. Best of luck to anyone that opts to build with this builder. I'd recommend continuing on with the builder search - there is certainly nothing of any quality or value to see here. read more

Our drainage ditches are flooded with green slimy mosquito filled water. But they go nicely with our roads which you ruined with your heavy lumber bearing or cement laden trucks. You made your money and left us to rot! An honorable builder would come back and make things right. Regrade the ditches and replace the roads. All you care to do is slap up houses as fast as possible, runaway with your profits and never look back! How do you sleep at night? read more

Shady Builders. Significant issues with no proper drainage systems are leading to soil erosion and flooding in the neighborhoods adjacent. I'm not sure who they have in the pockets with our county but they've been allowed to remove additional vegetation which will likely worsen the issue. I've tried calling and emailing Bill Clark with little to no response. Contact with the county and the state about the concerns and the county hasn't even emailed the requested documents that she promised. An engineer actually came in and told them to stop building due at some point due to the amount of water issues they are having. Constantly standing water in the roads even after only a light rain. Poor ethics and shady business practices. I will never use Bill Clark homes for my next house. No morals. read more

This company is extremely difficult to work with. I would never recommend to work with them. We are building a home at Salters Haven at Lea Marina we are in a 50/50 co-ownership. One of the owners went to look at some of the options and made it clear that the other owners would be coming to look as well and then we would submit our final selections. The company rep wrote it up as a contract and would not let the second owner even look at options. We tried talking to them and rather than working with us threatened to sue us for breech of contract! How do you call a house your dream home when you didn't even get to make the selections! The worst customer service ever!!!!! My designer was awful. I have things in my house I didn't even choose and was not made aware of many other options that I would like to have had. Have items on my punch list that are still not completed. They were supposed to have been finished before our key exchange....six months later they are still not done! They messed up my street so badly and have now passed the buck to the NCDOT when they are the ones who did it. I paid a fortune for my home and my street looks like garbage. If you are an out-of-state non-local who is building their first home or who comes in to purchase spec home, you might be ok. The process to build a new home, from selecting the lot to electrical outlet placement to completion has been mind-numbingly slow, inefficient, and altogether miserable. We know construction is backed up because of what the pandemic has done to this area. But - as with every other company out there adjusting - the pandemic has magnified what already exists: If you had poor project management and processes and customer service pre-pandemic, it's even more obvious now. If you had good management and service before that shows too. Guess where Bill Clark Homes is in the mix? We selected them because we liked the perceived quality and cottage look of the neighborhood. One step above DR Horton as far as quality maybe, but customer service is probably on par with any track spec home company. Our last completely custom and larger home was built in 9 months from first contact with contractor to move in. Here, it took 6 weeks to get a contract, a month after that to get with the design center, 3 months after that we finally had a foundation, and 7 months later (I kid not!) you get a home to move into. If you want a home in 2024, you might be in luck. If not, go somewhere else. The neighborhood rep is condescending and knows nothing. We were told NO to several basic items we inquired about (with her taking at least a week each time we asked, further delaying process) but come to find out at design center - YES we do have those options. The sales rep NEVER asked. She doesn't want to do her job. If Wilmington wasn't a top location to move to at this point, she might be a little more aggressive in her sales and service. Our serious plan is to sell this home within months (with a serious gain to us since the building process was slow and the spec home in the Bill Clark literature has increase $30G since contract signed). Don't build a home with BCH in Wilmington or Brunswick County. Especially don't build one from the ground up. read more

We were very excited to be able to build our forever home and when we choose Bill Clark Homes we did extensive research. When you go into the model home it is beautifully built, the finish work is exceptional and every detail is top notch. After being in our home for just a few weeks we realized that the "D" team was brought into build our home. The paint on the walls (very thin coating, you can brush it off) finish work not completed, trim work popping off, cheap door handles poorly installed and falling out of the doors leaving dents in our wood floors. We had to hold their feet to the fire to get BIll Clark to deliver on items in the contract. Bill Clark homes gives you the bare minimum of what they offer. We took all of our concerns and aliments all the way up to Heath Clark himself only to have a feudal conversation with a very dismissive and condescending company owner. We finally gave up and conceded to who we were dealing with and hired a private contractor at our cost of thousands of dollars to completely redo the master shower that Bill Clark "would" not deliver. I would like to say that the customer service on a new home at Bill Clark Homes is at best shady. Christi in the home warranty department in my opinion has an attitude that people are a problem not the work that Bill Clark Homes has done. Cory the constructions manager as we were leaving to close on the house he would correct the problem with the garage floor. There are pits in the concrete! He painted it blue! Pits still there.... Kevin came by today and looked at the floor.... No help! He said it was cosmetic.. Holes in the floor are cosmetic at Bill Clark Homes so beware! Do not sign at closing until all work is complete. By the way I had an inspection and this was noted but I allowed Cory with a pat on my back and a "trust me my friend", we will be there for you to get me big time. I would look forward to talking to Mr. Clark and working with him to resolve my problems. That was an invitation by the way. read more
