Susan is extremely knowledgeable & honest! And, she is patient with us as we are older.read more

Short version: WARNING! Do NOT go here for anything related to health insurance plans or the IRS…read morewill bend you over come tax time. At best, the agent is ill-informed and unskilled, at worst, she is highly unethical. -------------------- Long Version: I originally tried looking at marketplace plans online but prices seemed a bit high so I went in to this office to check out health insurance plans and see if they could offer anything better. The woman working, Susan Christensen, seemed nice and helped me through the process. I told her my estimated income for the year (which turned out to be very accurate) and we started. The initial plans she offered seemed too expensive and I wasn't really feeling it and I made that clear. After clicking around on the computer for a bit, she said " here we go" and showed me a Silver Plan for around $100 a month with decent benefits. Great! I'm sold! So what's the problem? I recently came to discover that in order to lower my monthly premiums (so I would buy), when she submitted my info she artificially lowered my estimated income below what I had told her it would be. She put that I would remain unemployed for the ENTIRE YEAR despite the fact that I previously informed her I would start work in the spring as a firefighter and subsequently had a phone call with her where I stated such (though she now claims she has no memory of this phone call). Her actions made me appear eligible for a larger subsidy than I otherwise would have been and brought my quoted price down to an attractive $100 per month. Upon filing taxes, I discovered that my income had been WAY underestimated when she filled out the forms and for the 6, yes SIX months of the year I was insured through her I will owe $1700 because, to her, making a sale (which a commission is paid on) was more important than actually communicating properly or helping me out. If you're willing to abandon ethics, you can promise people any price a month they want if you know they are going to foot the difference come tax time. Christensen Insurance proved itself, at best, to be unskilled in properly understanding and communicating real costs and risk to a client or, at worst, a business which prioritizes short term gains in the form of commissions over the financial well being of its customer ie, YOU. Sadly, it seems to be the latter. After speaking about my problem with several other people around this small town I've been informed this has NOT been an isolated case and others are in the same boat as me, with one owing over $10,000 upon filing their taxes! I subsequently brought this up with Susan hoping she would be willing to remedy the situation and her default reaction seems to be to offload the responsibility for these discrepancies onto her customers in one way or another. This is unethical, and unprofessional. If you value honesty, professionalism, or your money, stay far far away from this place. If you are one of the many people who seem to have been wronged or owe money despite clearly communicating your expected income to her, I'd suggest filling a complaint with the California Insurance commissioner and/or Covered CA to ensure this doesn't keep happening to people. Stay far, far away. And here are links to file a complaint if you've been taken advantage of. https://cdiapps.insurance.ca.gov/CP/login/ https://www.coveredca.com/PDFs/CoveredCAComplaintForm.pdf
