If anybody fancies getting their pool on (or being a little fresa and playing a game of billiards) I really recommend Billar Monaco...... It's a friggin awesome sports bar/pool joint, with an amazing jukebox selection (which is dirt cheap and has every 80s 90s 00s US/UK song you can think of, in addition to Spanish language hits). There's a ton of tables to playoff, the beer is ice cold and cheaper than any bar I've been to, and there's a huge projector screen that shows footie games/boxing matches and the Great British Bake-Off (just kidding on the last one....jaja) It's in a cool and safe area of Progreso, very close to the huge and really interesting market which is worth a visit on its own, and a block away from La Costera, and it literally seems to never shut. Like, never. I SWEAR I am not being paid or coerced or forced to write this review, I just want to share the joy that is a super cool, really fun pool hall/ sports bar with you guys, because it took me literally a year of living in Acapulco before I found one, and as an ex-Venice Beacher, and Londoner I really do love me some pool. Oh, also, one of the members of the family that owns it, Antonio, is there pretty much 24-7, and he's a total sweetheart, plus he speaks fluent English. So yeah, give it a visit, it's so worth it. I'm in Oaxaca right now or I would take you for every peso you have with my Paul Newman hustler-like skills, so count yourself lucky. It's based upstairs so you need to look out for the sign, then walk up the little flight of stairs, but the address is: Calle Tabasco 200 (just before the corner of Bernal Díaz, where the OXXO is.) If you are reading this then I'm assuming you're looking for things to do in Acapulco, and I'm assuming you've already realized the media bullshit about how dangerous it is there is exactly that--bullshit. And the same is to be said about Progreso. The area gets a really bad rap in tourist books etc. and yeah, sure, there are certain parts where I would be more aware of my surroundings when walking around late at night, but it's every bit as safe as London--especially the area where Billar Monaco is, plus there are always taxis parked outside the OXXO and you can walk a block to La Costera and jump on one of the millions of buses that go by every minute, driven by meth-fuelled teenage boys.....dude, it's Acapulco.
