Other dentists have been a disaster. Dr. Walters had solutions to all of my problems and the training and technology to make it happen. When I needed to get cavities replaced he knew to shrink the nerve first before putting on a permanent filling. My previous dentist did not and I ended up with a root canal. Dr Walters had a simple modern appliance for my teeth grinding, my previous dentists wanted to sell me a complicated 'old' style appliance. Chairside manner. I have always felt safe, comfortable and included in what was happening to me. The hygenists and Dr. Walters himself always explains what they are doing and why. I have always felt like a participant in what was happening rather than simply an open mouth having things done to it. Gentle Hands. Not sure how else to term it but Dr. Walters and each of the hygenists I had the pleasure to have work on my teeth, were exceptionally gentle with how they handled the various instruments both in and around my mouth. Not once do I recall having winced or experienced so much as a twinge of pain. Warm Familiar Welcome. This one applies to all - from Grace and the rest of the team in office management and adminstration, the hygenists, right to Dr. Walters (Dr. B) himself. I have always felt warmly welcomed. I have always felt recognized. And it astonishes me to no end how the team at Metropolitan Dental remembers details about my life discussed during a prior visit. Then, my daughter started losing teeth faster than the goon on your local hockey team. She also started experiencing pain in her gums. So, we asked around and were told by local parents about Dr. Kevin Rattray. Sure, there are lots of dentists in Ottawa. But, were any taking new patients? Luckily, Dr. Rattray was. I was able to get an appointment right away. I took my daughter in and turns out she had an abcess. It was a complicated procedure involving taking moulds, injections, x-rays, a tooth being pulled and the insertion of a metal space-holding device. I felt a little nervous on behalf of my little seven-year-old. But, Dr. Rattray and his nurse were very good with her and helped her through the ordeal with humour and caring. I only wish they had a full-time receptionist to answer calls. Every time I call, I end up leaving a voice mail and then play phone tag trying to get back in touch with the office. Otherwise, it is a pretty good dentist office to go if you have kids.

Now that we've both had some terrible issues (including problems caused by previous dentists) fixed by Dr Polonsky we both agree she's a godsend. Dr Polonsky is honest and direct without being patronising or judgmental. She is 100% focused on her work, and I trust her - which has resulted in my mother and I becoming so much more confident in addressing dental issues. Dr Polonsky is sympathetic and understanding, but when it's time to get the work done she's focused on getting things done right. Her assistant (Mimi) takes care of the bedside manner/comforting part of the treatment which works GREAT. So far, this clinic has provided me with the only dental experience I've ever had that wasn't followed by complications.

Dr. Wakter has rescued me on several painful occasions.  On one case, his immediate intervention allowed me to proceed with urgent cancer surgery a few days later. Krystal and Candice make everyone feel genuinely welcome. They prepare and submit all the forms for quick insurance claims. They even check in at home,  after extensive dental proceedures, to make sure I'm ok.  Awwww. Candice helps patients by showing relaxing animal videos to distract while getting frozen or when she is taking XRays. Brenda makes getting your teeth cleaned a happy event.  I've never had more fun being "picked on" and always leave with shiny white teeth. We now understand the doctor is in different locations on different days, but we should have been told of the different location at the time of booking. The reminder call staff ( two days before the appointment) told him he needed to bring a responsible adult with him. It was a problem for me as I had to rearrange things and inconvenience another person. When we arrived, he was told his procedure only needed a local anesthetic and he didn't need anyone with him!
