After a rather long drive from Penzance, we arrived in Cheltenham around 9pm. We learned early on in our trip that English shops don't stay open past 5-6pm, save for some market chains and pubs so we were a tad concerned that we wouldn't be eating dinner that night. Fortunately, there were restaurants open on the Promenade, Cheltenham's picturesque shopping area, which did look a tad seedy at night.. but we decided Bill's would do and were seated right away. Our waitress brought out menus and took drink orders. I ordered a mac and cheese and hubby had Mojo chicken skewers with couscous salad. The food is a lot like our New American with a bit of fusions going in. The dishes were appetizing, well seasoned and comforting, something I had been missing while running around and eating pasties throughout the day. Great casual breakfast/brunch spot. The ambiance is welcoming, with worn wood tables, hard wood floors and old time posters. Service is excellent. We had the granola Sunday which was fresh and satisfying, the bills breakfast and kids pancakes. Great spot for families. A little on the pricey side. read more

Talk about a disappointment! We ate here a few weeks ago and I've been waiting for it to show up on Yelp so that I could review it. Although the restaurant wasn't terribly busy, they sat the three of us (my wife, daughter, and me) upstairs between the kitchen door and the lavatories. It's not your ideal spot, but you would think that being so close to the kitchen would mean that you'd have the attention of the wait staff. Unfortunately, that was not the case and it was so difficult to flag down our server to get drinks or condiments. It wasn't until one of the staff heard me mutter "I am not impressed with Bill's" that she came over to see how our meal was. I ordered a burger medium-well and it came out medium-rare. Need I say more? Sure, they cooked another and got it right, but by then my family was finished eating. The rest of the meal--starter and the other mains--were unremarkable. So, I left thirsty and having quickly eaten my burger. To top it all off, the "optional" service charge was rolled into the check and, as I paid with my card, it would have been too awkward to decline it. Go to The Tivoli instead. read more

I enjoy the warm, cozy atmosphere at Bill's. The food is fresh and delicious. Their green olive and their Crispy Calamari starters are incredibly satisfying to me. I frequently order the rib eye steak. The steak is of a quality cut, and in the 3 times that I have ordered it, it has always arrived to my table grilled to perfection and cooked exactly as I ordered it, every time. It is not only the food that has me coming back, but the staff are great. I always feel accepted and warmly welcome. That quality of staff and level of service seems to be rare in most restaurants these days, but not at Bill's. I do believe that I have just found my favorite spot. read more

Came into Bills in the early afternoon craving a full English breakfast. Our waiter was extremely accommodating throughout the visit and despite breakfast not normally being offered this late, he spoke to the chef who happily obliged. "Bills Breakfast" came out looking not exactly like a traditional "Full English" but was delicious nonetheless. All the classic ingredients were included; sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes but they were assembled on top of two pieces of bread and drizzled with some pesto sauce, creating a more sandwich like appearance. As said, it was delicious nonetheless and with a dollop of brown sauce, it hit the spot perfectly! Bills offers a fairly extensive menu with all sorts of options, many of which bear Bills name, including the delicious IPA I enjoyed with my breakfast. There are also multiple sauces and other items for sale in the restaurant. Great spot in the center of town with lots of food options, two floors of indoor and outdoor seating, very friendly staff and some great decor. read more

What a lovely spot for a bit of lunch, th deco is rustic chic, the menu choice for lunch is good value and the staff are pleasant and prompt which during rush hour lunchtime is perfect. We were a group of 6, ordering a range of mains.... I choose the chicken caesar salad, it was packed with flavour, fresh strips of bacon, succulent chicken and garlic fried croutons...
