The rooms are fully updated with comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms, nice bath products, and doesn't feel like a roadside motel. The property has a whole park like setting, dock & marina by the Suwannee River. It is a super cute property throughout with tropical gardens, fruit trees & roses etc., The pool is amazeballs. It's def a blast from the past. "Suwannee, you're calling me!" If you ever find yourself on the Nature Coast, you got to stop at the historic "Suwannee Gables." Recommend.

Had a choice of eating in the bar , the dining room or outside. We chose the dining room and glad we did. Overall all our service was very good. The server was friendly ( and very busy handling a lot of tables). I had an 8oz filet which was very good. I ordered it medium ( light pink center) and it cane out true Pittsburgh rare ( charred outside but rare inside- see pics) I was actually ok with it .... I order medium for my wife to have a couple bites even though I prefer more med rare. So this was def rare inside but I loved it ( I cut her a small end piece that was cooked a little more ) The steak comes with a salad, a vegetable and potato ( a lot of restaurants everything is alacarte - so for $40 for a prime 8oz filet with those sides included .... Not bad. Wife had shrimp and grit cake which is a large appetizer ( she had as her meal). Also had stuffed mushrooms to start that were very good. I think the town of Cedar Key will prob be one and done for us. Wanted to see it , it's quaint , old Florida ... but prob wouldn't come back. ( but only because we just wanted to check it off of a long list of Florida towns to visit) Pro tip: they don't take American Express , odd for a linen table cloth type of place .... And while our server seemed really very nice, she just wasn't attentive. We saw her only a few times so that means no water refills, no continued drink orders, and no follow up. Even had to chase the check after giving up on waiting for her to order dessert. I especially resent that when the expected gratuity's over $20. We were there far too long, nearly two hours, and while they're also a hotel, we didn't want to make a night of it. And maybe that's the thing, if you're staying here, maybe you do. So, despite an uncomfortably long dinner, the food was pretty good. We enjoyed the snails and were impressed with the fish in paper. I did think it was a bit odd the waitress immediately prompted me to check the doneness of my steak but whatever; maybe she doesn't trust the kitchen or knew she wouldn't be back. And she wasn't; well, except to get her tip after I had to go get her. It's also worth mentioning we really appreciated the complimentary fresh bread, which was pretty good, and that the mains came with both sides and soup or salad, which are nice almost forgotten perks or customary hallmarks of what nice restaurants used to do that would be extra or billed as enhancements today. There were a few other small misgivings and unmentionables, like I didn't get the side I ordered or have the opportunity to address it and they cleared but didn't clean the table between courses but whatever; it's "casual" fine dining, right? They could do better.

It was a one bed, one bathroom that had a sitting area, kitchenette, and balcony. We first noticed how clean the room was. In general, that was true but I found random pieces of hair that weren't ours in the bathroom, on the couch, and who knows where else. My toddler daughter had a long strand of someone else's hair wrapped up in her hair so if may have come from the floor or the couch. That was a little bit of a turn off. The sleep accommodations were nice. The bed was comfortable and there was more than enough room for two adults and a toddler. We loved that the porch was screened in as we enjoyed being out there. There was ample parking in a carport just below the unit. The location is great. While the town is small, this place was steps away from two breakfast spots, the local pizza restaurant, and several shops. It's also a very short walk to Dock Street, where the Harbour Master Suites office and their Dilly Dally Gally is, along with other restaurants and bars. While the place could use a little more attention to detail with cleaning, overall, we enjoyed our stay and the check-in and checkout process was quick. I would be interested to return at some point to see what the room options are like at the main site.

This would have been a 5 star review but the mattress on our king bed really needs to be replaced as it has developed a bear hole on one side making it very uncomfortable. The cottage was very well kept and clean and had a full kitchen. Lisa and Brian were very friendly and accommodating and within reach if we needed anything at all. It was so cool to see the water move in and out with the tide. We didn't see dolphins during our short stay, but Brian said they often feed in the water right behind the cottages. This place is a quick 5 min drive into town or they have a free taxi service to the tiki bar down the road too. You can rent bikes or golf carts! support local and stay here! It's so cute and cozy.

There's plenty of outdoor seating, spots to have a fire and even bicycles you can rent during your stay. We stayed in the Firefly cottage that has an unobstructed view of the water from its private back porch. Every morning we received freshly ground coffee and enjoyed it on the porch watching the jumping trout and pelicans. It was really relaxing and serene. The cottage itself had everything you'd need and was super clean. Cute little kitchen area, fully stocked with plates and utensils. Bathroom with plenty of towels, toiletries and places to hang your bags. There's also a living room area with tv and queen sized bed. The cottage is so cozy and decorated with the coolest art and books. The best part are the hosts/owners. Ian and Darrin were so warm and welcoming. You can tell they love what they do. They know all the best spots in town too! The cottages are also only a 15 minute walk to town. We walked everywhere when we were there which was good considering all the tasty diner food we had.

In town visiting family. This was the second time we have stayed at this hotel. Chiefland does not…read morehave much to choose from when it comes to hotels, so we made our reservations here. That being said, for a small town hotel, they did a pretty good job. They were friendly, very responsive, and went out of their way for their customers. They were helpful in finding restaurants, stores, and other local businesses we needed. The negatives were that the bed was older and not as firm as we'd have liked; and the A/C unit had a leak onto the carpeting (eventual mold issue - was very concerned when we informed them). The rooms were kept clean when we were out, new towels etc. If you stay here not expecting the Taj Mahal, you'll enjoy the stay. We still have family in Chiefland so we'll be back and staying here.

The woman who runs this motel is terrific, and works hard to keep the place up and running. If you want a fancy place with all the trimmings, this is not it. But if you want a clean basic accommodation next to a great little restaurant, this is the place!
