The new key fobs were checked for proper operation, then all three were programmed into the car and verified before the two new manual key blanks were cut. By my estimate, I saved around 80% of what the dealership would have charged. I was looking to have a smart key duplicated for a 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Got an estimate of $350 for duplicate ($240 for key, $55 key cut, $50 programming) but they said that I would need to go to store and pre-pay, as it was a special order product. Additionally, they stated that they would do their best to program and cut the key, but that it would not be guaranteed to work--because it is complicated. They provided an alternative method, if I purchased my own key and charge only the key cut and programming. I purchased after-market FOBs from Amazon two for $158 and went to shop. They tried to program, but it failed. Still charged $50, but I was able to get refund from Amazon. Contacted the Amazon seller, and they have explicit guidance that the key could not be programmed with the system that they have at the store. When I asked the Bill's people about this, they said they had no idea what I was talking about. I would have gladly paid the original price, but very wary that they would not guarantee their work. I don't think I will go back to them. read more

These guys were great. They programmed a Ram Limited key fob for me before I had a chance to sit down to wait, literally it took the guy less than five minutes to program the fob and cut the spare key. Dealership wanted $25 more to do it and wanted me to leave the truck for the day. They guy who did the work was polite and efficient, I was worried they wouldn't be able to do it, like I said it was done before I even sat down. read more

I recently lost the keys to my shed and headed over to Bill's Lock and Key. Unfortunately the shed manufacturer didn't publish the key code online, so the staff had to make a few different different keys based on the shed manufacturers that did publish codes, and there were at least 100. As it turns out, I needed to bring in the lock from the shed and the staff was able to create a new key. YAY! Everyone was very helpful and friendly, and truly wanted to solve the problem. I've used Bill's for a few years now, and until today, I've been happy. BUT today ended my going to Bill's for keys. Probably the same is now true for any major jobs like updating and replacing the locks at our home or rental. I needed 1 key to match 3 matching keys I had on my ring and 3 keys each to match two other individual keys on the same ring. I wanted to take the necessary 3 keys off the ring to eliminate confusion. The worker insisted that wasn't needed because it was easier for him. His first try, he completely missed one of the keys I wanted & claimed I didn't say i wanted it, but he remained cordial and tried again. That still didn't work since on the second pass we mutually missed one of the keys. On the 3rd try, I ended up with two extra keys I didn't need, but at least I had all the keys I started out to get (7). This shop looks like they carry a lot of inventory of different key types. They had several people busy working there. I was in and out in a short time. I went through six locksmiths before I found Bills Lock & Key. If you ask contractors, builders, people who know - they ALL refer Bill because he simply has no equal in the Albuquerque area. The locksmith business seems to attract lots of low-lifes so it's hard to find someone to trust. After being burned several times I got Bill's name from another vendor I trusted and oh boy what a difference. His company is as professional as they come. The locksmith that came to give me an estimate was friendly and helpful, pointing out security issues and helping figure out where I could save money. He spent most of the day going through my business re-keying locks, installing deadbolts and other security devices and did a very good job. He cleaned up after himself. He was polite and generous. He charged me a mere pittance compared to what the first jerk wanted to charge me just to install one lock. Bill's is an honest company and in my opinion choosing anyone else is pretty risky. The price is fair, the product is amazing and the people are great. Highly recommended. read more

Even if you spend over $300, they will charge you for a service call fee of $45. I didn't like their attitude, having had to call back an additional two times to fix things that were done incorrectly. I am not crazy about the line, "Well, we don't want to make you spend too much," when in fact, you will spend it anyway in waiting time when they have to come back twice to fix their work, or when they leave you with a door that doesn't lock correctly. Clients aren't stupid: they're professional working people who have taken off time to meet them and not be condescended to. Get the work done, do it right, cease the small talk, give the customer what they want and need and stop second guessing them. And subtract the service fee of $45, which I had to pay twice, bringing the total I spent with this business up around the $500 mark. Update: So, over a year later, the office responds. Amazing! Mind you, they charged ME a service fee THREE TIMES for coming out to correct THEIR faulty WORK. I should have been charged the fee ONCE, because I expect professionalism and for them to do the job correctly. Sorry, but they greatly exaggerate their case: the other firms all subtract the travel fee if you accept their estimates. read more

My big box purchased Schlage door locks & handles were pretty sun damaged. 2 days ago I went to Bill's and placed my order with Jason - he was very helpful and accurate. This morning, Phil did an OUTSTANDING job installing new locks and handles on 3 doors. The security door needed some correction (deadbolt lock openings did not quite line up), FIXED. Garage door needed a bit of an adjustment, DONE. He showed me how to properly lubricate the lock bolts and keyholes; then showed me how to change the orientation of the handles. I needed a locksmith....and I needed one "now". I found Bill's Lock and Key in a Google search. Complete with a 4+ star rating. Now I know why....When I called, Katrina said they were booked until the following Wed (this was Fri). I explained my situation and she could not have been more compassionate/sympathetic. She told me for a $20 fee they could send someone out after hours. Eric arrived at the time promised...to the minute. As one reviewer stated: "this company is as professional as they come." I wholeheartedly concur. Eric also made security suggestions for the French door. One of the charges was not included in the phone estimate so Eric did not charge me for the new keys. Their prices are more than fair! I cannot say enough good things about this company, I highly recommend!!! read more

Laziest worthless staff I have ever encountered from a vendor. I showed up at 5 PM thinking I had just made it. I showed them my key and they said to come back some other time. That they had closed and turned off the computer that makes the key at 4 PM. In fact they rudely asked me to come back at 4 PM the next day. I asked them if it takes an entire hour to make my key. Some woman behind the counter stepped up and said, "We shut the computer down at 4 PM. And it costs $125." As I walk to my car , I thinking they shoud close at 4 PM if they can't make a key after 4 PM. I'm not entirely sure I was getting the truth. Just seemed they wanted to get home. I called another lock shop on San Mateo. They also closed at 5 PM. I told him what I needed, and he said, "Come on down we'll help you out." Help being the operative word. It Took them 15 minutes to cut and program my key for my car. Didn't charge me a premium. And I tipped them 50 bucks for the trouble. These folks at Bill's are rude & LAZY; and I really don't think they care. If you like being misled and treated like a schmuck, then by all means go to Bill's. The real shame is that they are teaching a new generation how to be not courteous, lazy, and ungrateful to costumers. read more

I came into to pick up a few things and get a key made, they were efficient in getting my key properly made but it's the small things with customer service that go a long way. Chris was somewhat courteous, it seemed to be an issue for him to be polite for too long, he did get done what was needed, never once told me thank you, just had me sign my credit slip. When I asked for a bag for the 5 items I had he handed the bag to me rather than putting the items in it as one should do in customer service. It is not a lot to ask for some good customer service, and being a small business one would hope for a bit more attention to that kind of thing. I have to say I will go elsewhere next time I need key things done. I prefer someone who is happy to see customers there rather than acting a tad put out by their job. read more
