First real English meal and what an impressive beginning to the trip!…read more Service was so friendly and efficient in a relaxing and casual ambiance. The dishes we got were sooo hearty and reminded us of comfort food. REBELLION BEER BATTERED FISH AND CHUNKY CHIPS Crispy layer of beer batter with just enough salt and pepper to go with the tender bite of fish. The chunky chips were crispy on the outside and had a bite similar to mashed potatoes, so delicious. The lemon tartar sauce went very nicely with it. That fresh squeeze of lemon juice over everything was just Chef's Kiss. SLOW ROASTED LAMB RUMP The lamb was roasted for six hours in red wine and shallots for a delicately, earthy flavor. The meat just melted in your mouth with every forkful. The lamb was served on a tasty bed of fluffy, garlic mashed potatoes. The red wine sauce drizzled on complimented everything perfectly. RIBEYE STEAK Classic steak done right with all the right searing and flavoring. Every bite was juicy and delicious. The roasted vine tomatoes were a great touch. The fries were done English style, so tasty. All I can say is: so English and so damn good.

Perfect Black Lion burger, divine baked Camembert, and perfectly crunchy fried squid. Perhaps as wonderful as the food is the patio, massive, just off the Thames. Ingested Broken glass!! Do not eat here!…read more Last Monday morning I went to meet a friends for brunch. I ordered a bottle of water and the server brought glasses for the table. I was served a glass with shards of broken glass at the bottom! I didn't notice that the glass I had been served was chipped and poured my bottle of water into the glass. When I finished drinking I had pain in my mouth and pulled out several sharp small grounds and shards of glass which had cut up my mouth and lodged themselves at the back of my jaw. It was absolutely horrifying and very painful. I spoke with the manager and he apologised saying the cups they use are made of recycled glass and are prone to chipping!! I was horrified. Management knows these cups break easily and are knowingly endangering their patrons. I told them how dangerous this was and told them to pull all the glasses off the floor and check them immediately. We were the only customers in the restaurant at that time but all the employees were just standing around looking confused. He offered to call an ambulance which he then said refused to come so I had to take myself to the hospital and spend the day in A&E and then home observation for the week. This experience has been so distressing. It has been a week now since this incident occurred and shockingly no one from management, owner or their legal has contacted me to follow up. The manager had requested that I emailed them to let them know how I was doing and to follow up and have received no response or acknowledgment they have not even offered a formal apology, or compensation of any kind. Not even a drink voucher (not that I would use it) No gesture of respect for the risks to my health or trauma they have caused. This is the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant! As a local I pride myself on supporting the wonderful restaurants of Chiswick but I just can't believe this has happened. Im just glad I wasn't dining with my children could you imagine if my six year old had drunk from this glass. There are so many amazing restaurants in our neighbourhood. In the interest of your own health and safety do not dine here!

I can only speak for the cocktails but seriously....isn't that REALLY what matters?…read more I have such hard cocktail boners for this place. Seeing as my husband is a mixologist, it sort of ruined cocktails for me. I know better now. And Charlotte's drinks make me swooooon. Not only does the bar staff have a direct hand in sourcing and selecting all their spirits, but they also write their own cocktail menu (updated every month) and even create some of their ingredients in house...including their bloody mary mix. YES. My hubs fell in love with their Illegal Negroni. I had the One Nest for Two and the English Country Garden. If you don't see something you like, their bartenders will make something up. A true cocktail lovers bar. And with its laid back, candle-lit vibe and chill music, it's definitely a few notches cooler than any spot on the high road.

Amazing food and cocktails.. The menu changes on a fairly regular basis to reflect seasonal produce but pretty much every dish I have tried here has been amazing. Also: Make sure to try out their Gin school on a Monday night as well, they have the gin distillers introducing you to the ingredients and distilling process of their brand while you enjoy a complimentary G&T or gin martini!! What's not to like!!

After a long day at work, I trekked down the quiet side of Chiswick to Thames road for a late bite. I was seated upstairs amidst couples and groups of friends, next to a corner fireplace. From this vantage point I could see the entire upstairs dining area. Candles and roses are on every table and the decor is eclectic yet romantic - a love theme. Annie's shepherds pie (a special on my first visit) and a side of broccoli hit the spot. A few nights later I tried a more basic fish and chips, plus a pear, green bean, and shallot salad. The fish was flakey and battered perfectly - not the sloppy pub stuff you find elsewhere. The salad was refreshing. Finally, I've also enjoyed the halloumi burger. It's thick and well-executed. Substitute sweet potato fries or a vegetable for the chips if you want something a little more nutritious. Despite arriving just before closing time on most of my visits, the staff is always helpful and enthusiastic. Even on cool nights, the heat from the kitchen warms the upstairs, so be ready to de-layer if you're dressed for the cold. It's cozy! The love theme extends to your post-meal survey card, which reminds me of Valentine's cards kids give out in school. Maybe the love theme explains why I fell in love with Annie's.
