Watching Wimbledon on the big screen
    Jacqueline R.

2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 229/365 I had NEVER heard of this restaurant before coming here a few days ago. My dad and I wanted to dine at Steak & Lobster across the street, but they were fully booked for the evening, so the employees there directed us to Scoff & Banter, their sister restaurant located across at the Radisson. My dad and I didn't really know what to do since the people at Steak & Lobster almost forced us to eat at Scoff & Banter since we couldn't get seated at their restaurant...so that was a little strange. I don't know anything about this restaurant, but it definitely had that newly-opened restaurant vibe to it. I'm not sure if it's just because it was attached to a hotel, but it was definitely on the emptier side and I felt like most of the people dining there were just people staying at the hotel who had wandered in. They had lots of tables (at least 20), and only 3 or 4 seemed to actually have people dining at them. I think the main reason why my dad was ok with staying at this restaurant was because they had a giant projector where they were playing Wimbledon. My dad is a huge tennis player (we actually came to London to go to Wimbledon this year), so he basically just sat and watched the screen the whole time. Decor is somewhat trendy, and had a lounge feeling to it. They were all either red velvety soft booths or chunky red swivel chairs. The waiters definitely seemed really inexperienced. Our waiter was ok, but he had a really thick accent and I felt like we both had a hard time communicating with each other. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and I felt like he had no clue wtf I said. When he told the bartender they made one for me, but it was almost like some sort of martini when I had expected it to be a strawberry blended drink... I sent it back and just opted with a Coke because it was much less of a hassle. I ordered this massive English burger which came with a LOT of stuff on it. Too much, in fact, that it was nearly impossible to eat the burger in a somewhat tidy way. Out of all the burgers I've eaten in my life, that particular burger goes down as one of, if not THE messiest, burger I've ever had. Everything kept spilling out of it, and even when I divided it into four pieces I still had a hard time eating it. My dad got a steak which came with an egg on top and a side of fries/chips. He didn't really comment on the food, so I'm assuming it was just mediocre, or he was too engrossed in the tennis match on TV that he didn't have much to say otherwise. The prices were a little expensive...I think my burger was just under 20 pounds and it was one of the cheaper items on the menu. Overall...I think this restaurant may just be starting out, and really needs a lot of polishing to do. I found out that it's a chain, so maybe this particular location just hasn't been around for awhile because everyone seemed rather awkward and inexperienced. I will most likely not return.

Attached to the Radisson Blu. Great hotel restaurant, but just about no one comes to this restaurant that isn't staying at the hotel. Very quiet, which I loved, great food and good drinks. The breakfast buffet is on-point! Would highly recommend taking advantage of the buffet when booking a room at the hotel.

£5 mojito Happy Hour and very spacious bar area. Plus, summer is coming. Put two and two together and it sounds like I will be back again.

The basement has a bar, lounge and restaurant. It was a little noisy. But we could still talk. The roasted scallops were cooked perfectly. The green sauce was tasty. I love the presentation. The Bill Marrow was also good. It was very rich. There were two kinds of Sunday roast a sirloin and a rump. Three of us had the rump roast dinner and three had the sirloin roast dinner. It was hard to tell the difference. All the dinners came with roasted potatoes greens and of course, Yorkshire pudding. It was all delicious. I have to say my favorite part is always the Yorkshire pudding. I also have a green salad, which is basically just lettuce with a light dressing. It was very fresh. We were too full for dessert. The service was excellent. We were seated right away and given water. In the UK, you can order sparkling, still or tap. Sparkling and still come with a charge. Tap is usually free. Our server was attentive without hovering. It's a good idea to make reservations at Hawksmoor especially for the Sunday roast. We got there at three by the time we left around 4:30 some of the roasts were already sold out. Just a note: Sunday roost is usually a late lunch not a dinner. It's good to go between two and four especially if you don't have a reservation.

Every time I eat a pie this place is my benchmark for the best pies ever! The  menu at Battersea Pie Station includes classics like steak and stout, minced beef and onion and chicken and mushroom, plus more creative, veggie options including butternut squash and goat's cheese. The steak and stout is my ultimate favorite! This place is my go to pie place every time I'm in London. I always try to stay in Covent Garden just so I can come here. This is my basis of the perfect meat pie with the pleasingly firm crusts and sides of mash and roasted potatoes are so delicious. The rich red-wine gravy comes separately in a small jug. I smother the pie with the gravy. Ingredient quality was excellent. They have mini pies and the regular sized pies. Even for a counter-service place this little cafe is terrific value - and you will be surprised that for Covent Garden you can eat a reasonably priced and uber delicious meal that makes me full the whole day! 5 stars can't wait to come back!

Minced Beef & Onion: The most popular, apparently. Smooth and moist inside with a buttery flaky outside. Steak & Stout: Same great crust, but with a very distinctive inside, chunks of firm roast and thick gravy where you could actually taste the stout. Probably my favorite pie here. Chicken & Mushroom: A nice variation from beef, but by no means lesser. With it's large chunks and umami gravy, this was like a quick hit fix for when craving a proper chicken pot pie. Mash & Gravy: The mash was smooth and buttery. The gravy was more than plentiful. Kinda lives under the shadow of the delicious pies though. Sticky Toffee Pudding: Good, but not great. The toffee sauce felt a bit too thick and wasn't as warmed as I like it. The sponge cake was alright, but kinda dry, like they just plopped into the toffee sauce puddle. But it did do a good job of soaking up the sauce with a little spoon dexterity.

Got the gravy on the side, didn't think I'd use all of it, before I knew it, it was all gone. And you wouldn't think that the type of mash or type of gravy or type of sausage would matter that much, but they really do all have distinct flavors! I will be mixing mustard into my mashed potatoes from now on. Originally came for the sticky toffee pudding, so of course we ended with that. Marvelous! The toffee sauce is so comforting and rich, the cake was so moist, and it was perfectly balanced with the ice cream. Didn't detect any dates, maybe they were too finely chopped. Also the apple and blackberry crumble just didn't hit the same; it was slightly dry and on the sour side (maybe don't take a bite directly after the pudding!) Service was so helpful and friendly; I'm sure they love watching people fall in love with their food. Quick with refills and offered extra condiments if needed. Great air conditioning as well (always a plus), and I loved the green blacksplash and blackboard caligraphy on the walls as well. Bangin'
