HEADLINE: An absolute treasure for vintage BMW Owners (especially E30 Series Owners) to have these guys relocate here on the Central Coast from SoCal to provide the most outstanding expertise in servicing / completely overhauling engines. Expert recommendations / attention to details / ridiculous competence in all things mechanical, and amazing results on a months' long reconditioning of my 1990 BMW E30 M3!!! By sheer happenstance, I was approached in a parking lot next to my 1990 M3 by a nice lady offering a business card for these guys. WHAT SERENDIPITY!!! She was the Mom of one of the owners of Bimmerheads! My 1990 BMW E30 M3 with about 100K miles on her was testing poorly on its compression tests (wide variance in PSI across the four cylinders and all readings were below BMW Spec) and was in need of some serious expertise for a major rebuild / reconditioning that didn't take the car way from me to Oakland or down South to SoCal. I approached Matt and Shant with my concerns, and we were able to schedule the car into their brand-new shop in Grover Beach (sheetrock still smelling new) for what would be one of the most satisfying journeys I've ever experienced with Indy mechanics (and I've had many dating back to my 320i, 330i Convertible, E30 M3 Euro M3 Cabriolet, E46 M3, and a BMW Motorsport E30 M3 EVO Gruppe A purpose-built Race car)! Over the course of almost two months, these guys were proactively professional in their inspections, recommendations, detailed cost estimates (Labor hours and Parts with BMW part numbers) and updates on the project. The project involved touching almost every aspect of the engine bay and beyond. Many parts were found to likely be the original components of a now 36-year-old vehicle. The major issue with the engine block turned out to be carbonization ... likely due to a worn-out ignition system and out of tolerance fuel injectors. The cylinder head and valves had to be thoroughly cleaned, and the pitted camshafts needed to be sent out for polishing. Two troublesome fluid (oil and brake) leaks that I had raised upon discussing the project up front were diagnosed and corrected. Non-engine issues were raised (clutch slave cylinder, hood release cable, hood support strut, brake hoses, etc., etc.), estimates provided, and corrected upon my approval(s). Many activities throughout the project were not charged Labor hours as access made the service just a remove and replace effort! BTW, Labor hours were always indicated to the tenth of an hour. The car was returned to me washed and the engine bay cleaned. The car was always stored in their secured facility ... never outside or overnight. It's running better than it ever did during my 20 some odd years of ownership. I highly recommend these craftsmen to work on your vintage BMW!!! My sincere thanks Matt and Shant!!!! read more

It turns out I made a major mistake thinking that Armen, Matt and Shant were men of their word. Over the course of 8 months I spread the word about their work to every one I saw at every car show I went to, and believe me I am well known and respected throughout California. I now have the distinct pleasure of sharing with every single person again, only this time it is to say that I was dead wrong and would never do business here AGAIN--call it my apology to those I misled. I am pursuing legal action for damages and loss of use for the time my vehicles were made in accessible to me and my family due to the negligence and sheer ineptitude of Armen Shant and Matt. I first brought my E28 to them in July of last year to have work on my engine done, I told them time and again to work on anything else they found on the way because I trusted their reputation. However I received ANOTHER estimate afterward for more work that would require me to pay for the labor of taking apart the dashboard again. Why wouldn't they do it the FIRST TIME THEY HAD IT TAKEN APART? Unless of course they wanted to continue to get more out of me and Double charge me for parts later on (which they did). I called them for months on end trying to get them to fix their mistakes. Eventually I got a hold of Armen who seemed to respond only when I got angry with him--he admitted that he dropped the ball and would take care of it. I waited nearly 2 months for them to take my car in and waited for 3 weeks only to find out that my car simply sat there with nothing being done. This is not the first time they had done this, 2 of my cars were previously dented and scratched and had their windshield cracked while sitting on the tiny crowded lot they share with so many other businesses. If I had known this was going to happen then I would have kept the car in my climate controlled warehouse! My son was trying to have their dent guy come out to our home to fix the dents that Bummerheads put into our cars--they claim this guy is the best but I have not gotten a call back over the course of nearly 4 months! Hard to imagine someone so good would be so hard to get a hold of. We called BIMMerheads to let them know that we were just going to find a different dent guy and send them the bill when Armen decided to take out all his anger from god knows what on my son--that is when I decided that I would just pick up my car and seek out a remedy in court because we clearly weren't getting anywhere. Even after Armen himself admitted that he was wrong and gave his word that it would be taken care of, it wasn't! It was as of the conversation never happened--this is what dishonesty looks like. I assure you it did not have to go this way but because they repeatedly made choices to not be clear with me about what they were doing, here we are. The arrogance of Matt to "correct me" by saying only spent $25,000 when he forgot to mention the other $7000 from my son and daughter's cars. Does spending $25k not warrant honesty? I did not spend this money to have my cars sit on their dingy crowded lot where they were damaged multiple times. I did not spend this kind of money to have Armen stash the car on his personal property for weeks without my knowledge, why waste my time when I could just keep it in my warehouse?? I told Armen if he was not able to work on my car right away that I do not want it to sit on their lot, they did this again despite my explicit wishes. I did not spend this kind of money to have them put together a completely disassembled car just to charge me for the labor again when more parts come in. I almost feel as though my willingness to spend had them peg me as an endless river of cash to be tapped at will--this is not the case. Ironically I would have been happy to give them more and more of my money if they had respected my time but as they are finding out now Neither myself or my family are to be toyed with this way. As a matter of fact, as soon as I mentioned that I would be seeking legal action their lawyer was on the phone with us in less than an hour--I wish I could have gotten that kind of direct service on the cars that I paid for! If a company is that quick to protect themselves I can only imagine they are dealing with more upset customers on a regular basis. Honestly I am taking the time out of my busy schedule to share this with the world because I respect honesty, dignity, and taking care of family above all else and firmly believe that anyone who poses a threat to those simple ideals needs to be exposed so that the people can decide for themselves who to give their business too. It really sucks to write this review. At the beginning of all of this I was anticipating writing the 5 star review of this place. This is for a small rebuild on a M30b35 head - I dropped off the bare head at their shop, not a full car. I will just start with the facts: 1 - I dropped off my head for a small rebuild 32 days ago and I still do not have a QUOTE. (left at Bimmerheads January 26th) 2- Bimmerheads has never emailed or called ME once to this day 2/27/22 (all info I have is from me reaching out every 6 or 7 days.) 3- They disassembled my head with "no timeframe" of when they would be able to complete it or even get to it. 4- I have been promised a quote "this week" twice and both times they did not deliver. 5 - They keep falling back on the fact that they needed a rocker shaft - I found all 3 (original BMW) available at major distributors (Turner, ECS, Pelican Parts) with 3 day shipping. They told me they needed the shaft 3 weeks ago. I also asked if they were too busy and wanted me to source the shaft for them, they said no. I understand a shop can be too busy, I understand that sometimes things that were ahead of me take unexpectedly longer than anticipated - what I don't understand is the total lack of disregard for my time. What I also don't understand is the total lack of communication... as stated above - Bimmerheads has never actually reached out to me. Not 1 phone call or email in 32 days. I have had to call them every week to figure out what is happening.... and even then, it always feels like I'm getting the run around. I actually came in person last Wednesday to figure out what could possibly be going on - and I am part of the problem... I was told that the fact that people constantly call in / come by to check on their projects really sets them behind - because apparently the master techs answer the phone instead of a secretary. So every time the phone rings... they have to stop what they are doing and go talk to a-holes like me. That sucks, and I'm sorry... but that's a terrible system... So here I am. Project dead in the water for over a month, no quote, with my head completely disassembled at their shop with "no timeline" of when it will be complete. I have no choice but to raise the white flag and go get my stuff on Tuesday when they open - I really don't know what else to do at this point. read more

I can't say enough nice things about my experience with BimmerHeads. I have an 90 325i, and it is so hard to find a shop to work on an older BMW, let alone finding a place that will do everything for them. Matt and Shant are experts at everything BMW. They can source impossible to find parts, make suggestions about upgrades, and even use other BMW car parts that fit. I have been going to them for about 5 years now, and it is always exciting picking it up after work. My m20 rebuild on my 89 325is needed it's first oil change and valve adjustment. I scheduled it with Matt and dropped off in the am/ picked up in PM. Drives sooooo nice! Also he added a nut for the plastic trim piece around your steering wheel..I guess I was missing the one on the left side. I had mentioned it & they handled it. These guys have been maintaining my BMWs since 2011. I started out with one E30 and now have two and an E93. I keep getting BMWs because I have a shop I trust to do the work correctly and at a fair price. Their business has grown by leaps and bounds over the years because of the quality of work they do. My experience over the past more than 10 years is the communication is always clear and I always recommend this shop to everyone. I now live in Pasadena and still drive out to their shop for everything, even a simple oil change. They have performed all types of maintenance for me from a complete 2.7 stroker build, a manual trans swap, install a convertible manual locking mechanism to window adjustments. These guys do it all and they do it right. They are busy, so call ahead and make an appointment. I see other reviews on here complaining about timing and communication, I have not experienced these problems over the years but my advice would be: I will always choose quality and fair price over speed. They are busy and have a waiting line because they are good. If you want something done tomorrow maybe go find someone who is not busy and good luck with the outcome. If you want it done right and at a fair price then Bimmerheads is the place for classic BMW work. read more

I recently acquired my fathers 328i BMW that had been parked for 5 years and not very well maintained before he parked it. I brought it to Matt and his crew to "bring her back". I was presented with a complete inspection of my car and all recommended repairs to put her back to pretty close to new. The list was clear and showed the costs of each repair and which parts would be used, Matt followed up with a phone call to let me know which repairs were immediate safety issues and what we could wait on. I opted to have all repairs done and was kept informed of every step. When the car was ready, I was walked through everything they did and spoke with the mechanic that performed the work. These guys had my E46 M3 for 5 weeks (Feb 15 - Mar 19). In that time they only managed to do a compression test and break the starter during the test, then lie to me that it was already broken and charged me $470 to replace it. They also promised to do a fuel flush and injector testing but never got around to doing it. These guys never contacted me for any updates. Every single time I had to call/email and chase these guys down for an update. Their shop is located in an extremely busy auto strip mall/center, and there is zero space for parking. Because their garage has no space, my car was stored outside where I did not feel it was too safe. I had my transmission and driveshaft replaced by BimmerHeads, as they have a lot of experience with vintage BMWs, particularly modified e30s. They were very communicative and accommodating with my schedule. Pricing was very fair, and they even took the time to address other items I hadn't noticed (replacing stainless braided brake lines with the correct length variants). I went with the shop Bimmerheads in Santa Clarita, CA for my transmission rebuild. After reading reviews online and speaking to other BMW owners in my community about them, they do hold a very good reputation for their work and thus decided to proceed with them for the rebuild. During diagnostics of opening up my trans, they were able to identify exactly which parts were needed to be replaced. They were able to answer any questions I had about the invoice and even helped resolve possible issues that could have caused the damage to the transmission which I very much appreciate. The rebuild process with them was very smooth. I was constantly updated with status of the rebuild as time went by. I personally requested extra work to be done: new shift lever, timing belt work, etc. and Bimmerheads were more than happy to take care of those as well with no additional delay. The result: My E30 shifted beautifully all the way home with no issues at all (3 hour drive). My shift knob has very little to no play and I'm excited for what's next for my E30.
