‼‼‼PLEASE READ BEFORE TAKING ENGINE TO THIS SHOP ‼‼‼ $2500 for just an ENGINE SWAP and no inspection is insane.This shop has no TLC for your vehicle. I was told on the phone that they are not a transmission shop. This is not about repairing a transmission, but ensuring the new engine is not installed into a compromised drivetrain system. Even if engine was bought at your shop or not. Or even rebuilt or remanufactured or even used engine . A proper swap should always consists of Inspect torque converter engagement ,Check transmission fluid condition (not taking trans apart) Confirm no metal contamination is there due to a engine knocking and being destroyed. And if it needs transmission oil due to contamination or any type of flush due to contamination no need to take it to a transmission shop. As an engine swap specialist you should be able to do that if contaminated. If you guys consider yourself a professional skilled shop that specializes in rebuilding Engines and installing them all day as you claim over the phone, then what I was requesting for was no need for attitude or taking it to a transmission shop. For anyone considering an engine swap, it's important to understand that a proper Installation often includes checking related systems like the transmission and torque converter especially on high-mileage vehicles. These components can directly affect how the new engine performs and how long it lasts. In my case, I expected a more complete installation service that considers the overall drivetrain health, not just replacing a engine and moving on and not checking for what's recommended when swapping an engine. If a shop specializes in engine swaps (installation ) I expected them to at least discuss torque converter condition, transmission fluid contamination, and other drivetrain concerns that could affect the success of a replacement engine. Instead, I felt my questions were brushed off. I'm sharing this so others understand exactly what level of service is being provided at coast motor supply before making a decision. Especially if you don't know anything about cars. Please get inform. I was really looking forward to taking it to coast motor supply even though they had good and bad reviews, I still decided to get a quote. But after all of this and speaking with Omar and he giving me some information. It was a no for me . I called the following week (2nd time calling and last ) with follow up questions about torque converter and he was very rude and stated he had 3 other customers to attend to and didn't have time. I was willing to take my car to get repaired by them but with the type of customer service I got over the phone by Omar I decided to go to another place. I just had a motor done it was not acid wash there was so much dirt and rust inside the motor and the radiator the engine almost overheated and blew up. This guy does the worst job ever at any machine shop. I wouldn't trust these guys with an oil change. Went to get my engine "rebuilt" by these guys and 30,xxx miles later... check out what I had to do. I ALWAYS had problems with their shotty work. They cut corners in every way. And Chris, you're a nice guy and everything but as nice as you are, you guys are ripping people off and you know it. I'll never recommend this place and I'll always warn people. THESE ENGINES WILL ONLY LAST 30K MILES AND THE WARRANTY COVERS ONLY 24K. THESE PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Oh and before you ask why I didn't even bother calling you guys to see if you could "resolve my issue" remember that I've been in that office before when other customers have called with the same issue and the only thing you've told them is "it's past the warranty that'll be another $2,500 we can't help you, this is somehow your fault". Rebuilt motor just about two years ago... Had it towed in they waited 3 weeks before even touching it. Claimed they needed a signature, though they had one day 1 of the car being there. Timing chain broke. Refused to give me the old One though it felt very limp and weak. Did not honor the warranty. Had the car back not even a week after the chain broke... It went back this morning due to rough idle and clicking sound from motor. Let's see what they do now. Hoping the car would break in December cause that's when the warranty expires... Will never ever take another car to them. Honest opinion take ur car else where avoid being ripped off. Take it to the dealer where they will ensure your car is safe. Not to mention the oily hand and finger prints all over the car and some of the oil on the A pillar (interior) And the scratches. Being quoted 600 then turns into 900. Paid for rental 2.5 weeks 850. Loss of income for car being down on a busy weekend. 1200. Moral of it all just take it to the dealership. Both times getting the car back there was scratches on it. And of course the boss won't do anything about it. 1500 in paint damages. Use caution while dealing with them. I didn't mention one thing. Christian begged me to take this review down. 08/16 My jeep Cherokee the light on the engine check was on and white smoke coming out of the muffler This was the start of my nightmare. On 08/05/16 , I paid $1300 coast motors to fix the problem . Two weeks later, my jeep started making noise and shaking when the car is on idle . I brought the jeep back to coast but Christian said he didn't feel the shake or did it hear the noise. They said I have another problem with the engine and I need to charge me $1500 to get it fix. I spent money and paid more every time I bring the jeep to coast motors , but my jeep was never got fixed. They wouldn't even agree to fix it I paid more then I was originally was told and I would have had a better engine for leas at O'Reilly Auto Parts and with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. Update 1/5/2020 Christian you are dishonest. First of all Omar admitted to me that he found the receipt where I requested Fel-Pro gaskets and you have me a different engine. I recently had my engine completely rebuilt with this shop and opted to have everything replaced while it was opened, so total I spent $3,400. Not a bad price for the amount of work and overall the follow up and communication was very good. The BIG BUMMER for me is that my truck was returned running a bit more sluggish then before I brought it to them. So I called Christian and was advised to allow the engine to break in. I completed the break in period of the course of 2 months. I felt slight improvements but brought it back to them to check valves and timing because it still was running more sluggish then before I had brought it to them originally, the only thing they performed on the engine was an oil leak that was fixed and they insured me everything checked out and it was running great. A few weeks after these events I took my 4runner in for smog and it failed tremendously according to smog technician. So then I take it to the Toyota dealership service dept so I could finally find out what was going on. Come to find out I have a broken vacuum switch that has been GLUED back together and installed back onto my engine. This is a big surprise to me and makes complete sense, the switch was broken by one of Coast Motor Supply's mechanics while being taken off or put back on my engine. I am certain of this because i had purchased this vehicle 7 months prior and had to pass smog for transfer of title and registration into my name and it passed with no problems. I called Christian and asked if Coast Motor Supply would help me with replacing the vacuum switch ( it cost $138 plus labor $188 total ). I have been completely ignored since then. I have called and spoken with Christian twice and both times he told me he would speak with the owner and call back with an answer. To this day I have not received a call back not even to tell me "no we won't fix our mistake" So overall my opinion of CMS is that the mechanics are a bit careless in their workmanship. The overall fine tuning of your engine to ensure that it's dialed in and running smooth is non existent with this shop. This place could be great with a bit more accountability and at least 1 visit back after break in period for adjustments and fine tuning. I would of liked to left them a better review but at the end of the experience they have left me with an additional $188 charge which was their mistake. A vehicle that won't pass smog, and my vehicle was running poorly upon delivery which doesn't show pride of workmanship. By the way after having new vacuum switch installed on my 4Runner it passed smog .. but not by much. I will not go back nor will I refer anyone to this shop, overall value isn't there. this place was referred to me by a friend where i take my 2006 srt 8 300c for all of my maintenance services meaning oil change brakes etc! anyway i had my cam replaced,lifters ,gaskets engine mount! the pictures are worth a 1000 words, when i received my car back i noticed the hemi tick again but not too loud when it was b4,i informed my mechanic he informed me that it was okay,smh! i had the warranty which was funny it expired in dec. the 17 2017, furthermore, i was leaving my 2nd job at 1100pm on dec. 13 2017, all off a sudden i started hearing this loud knocking noise i pulled over an i was like wtf no way i just paid them 3600 (mind u my warranty is almost up) anyway the next day had my car told back to there shop was charged an additional 100 bucks just to check wtf the problem was an i informed them of what had happened! me i'm thinking its under warranty so no problems to fix it ! bullshit, so they called me an said i blew a engine rod by not having oil in my engine wtf hell fukkin no, my mopar is always maintained with oil brakes radiator flush ect. me i was shocked when they told me that! so i asked them how much will it be mind u i just spent close to 4k now! I can't say enough good things about Coast Motor Supply and Omar, the owner. In October 2011 my 1997 Mazda Miata engine got a crack. I searched high and low all over Los Angeles for the best deal and best quality. I chose these guys because of their awesome website, which has videos showing how they work on your car's engine, complete explanations and the fact that they've been in business for over 30 years. Omar is such a friendly guy and he worked with me and put me at east through the whole process. As an added bonus, he went through the entire cooling system piece by piece, and even the transmission, to make sure everything would be in tip-top shape once they were done. He recommended that we change out certain parts, which increased the total I had to pay, but he gave me a full breakdown of all the parts and after doing a few comparison searches of my own was fully convinced that he was not marking up the parts from retail and they did all the labor at no extra cost. I wanted to update, the status of this complaint, First off the owner Omar has been in contact with Ray, VIA phone. Omar has forwarded to his insurance everything seems to be going along just a very long process Coast Motors the owner is a very honest Business man, and is taking responsibility for the work that was not completed correctly and the damage that was done. i am waiting to hear back from the insurance company they have been in contact with me. Omar has also agreed to pay for the detailing to have all the oil removed from my interior Upholstery. Had them build a longblock for my jeep after the engine overheated and blew. From the first moment to the last Christian was honest, friendly and super helpful. Not only did they do a great job on the rebuild, but i dropped it off a couple days before x-mas and they had it done in 3 days! They painted everything, and gave me the leftover gaskets from the kit that I would need to finish my installation of the motor at home. It fired up and ran on the first try and I'm now 1,000 miles down the road with not a single problem. I highly recommend this shop for any of your engine needs. Had engine rebuilt in May, quoted at 4200, final cost over 5000. Heard knocking noise in late November. Called Christian at Coast Motor Supply. He said I should have it towed and make sure I have oil in the vehicle. I immediately checked oil and it was full. Towed car to Christian at Coast Motors and left it, as he was "too busy" to look at my vehicle. He called the next day and said oil was bone dry and it wouldn't be covered under warranty. When I told Christian that I checked prior to the tow and there was oil he basically called me a liar. I went to pick up my vehicle with a tow truck and Christian had to jump my car..... funny the battery was not even 6 months old. Got the car home and the battery won't even hold a charge. Asked Christian about this and he basically went round and round about the battery that he likely took out of my car. Do not do business with this place. Total scam and rip off. They do shoddy work and then blame the customers. Bottom line is they rebuilt the motor in May. If there was oil burning or oil leaking it's on them, which there wasn't. If there was no oil leaking or burning then where did the oil go from when I checked it to when Christian checked it? I plan to report to BAR, BBB and anyone else who will listen. Speaking to an attorney as well. For the record, I have talked to no less than 6 mechanics in the Valley since this issue. EVERYONE of them said NOT TO DO BUSINESS with Coast Motor Supply. So they kindly put in another engine in my truck and after 14K miles it also blew up on the freeway on my way to work. When I called today they said nothing we can do for you. This shop is for when your vehicle needs a new engine. They test, diagnose, and show you exactly what's going on with your engine, and put in a rebuilt one at a far lower cost than the dealer. I have an '06 Explorer that had overheated, and coolant started getting into the oil. The dealer quoted me over $6,000 for a new engine. I called a mechanic I've trusted for over 20 years. They referred me to Coast Motors. Omar and Christian at Coast reassured me that they would test it fully before telling me what work I needed. They showed me the crack in the head, and then they quoted me about half the price for a rebuilt engine - about $3,400. This was a good choice, because I couldn't replace that vehicle for anywhere near that cheap. While they were at it, they found the source of another problem the vehicle was having. I was getting squealing from the rear axle, and the ABS brakes were malfunctioning. They found out the rear axle was broken, and they replaced it. Within a week, it was done, and now my truck drives like new. read more

I have no idea about their engine building, this is just my experience with their machine shop. This place is by no means a bad shop. They have the capacity and tooling to get all serious jobs done. The people who work there are really friendly too, and I almost feel bad for writing a negative review but I truly believe people should be warned or at least expect the amount of work they're getting. With that being said, this place is lazy. For the amount of money they charge for the simplest of jobs, you would expect them to go a little above and beyond. 1. Let me start with their hot tanking. Everything was still dirty. EVERYTHING. They didn't remove any freeze plugs or even the old crusty gasket from the block. Same with the head. I'm pretty sure they just throw it in the hot tank for a second then pull it out. I paid $75 for them to hot tank the block only for me to have to clean it when I got it back on the engine stand. Let me say that again. Seventy-five dollars for them to dip the head in the hot tank and not even ensure its clean. There was still gasket left over from the old head gasket and oil pan gasket. $30 for the pistons, which came out OK but are going to need another cleaning, and $30 for the head which also came out okay but they didn't take the time to remove even the RTV from the old valve cover gasket. Hot Tank services get a 1 out of 5 for me. 2. Checking Bore and Honing. This came out pretty good. A bit expensive at $120 but as far as I can tell everything looks okay. 3 out of 5. 3. Resurfacing head. Also came out good, other than the head still being dirty. This cost $65 which is more than I have payed at other shops. Customer Service: Now I really don't care about customer service for a place like a machine shop. I just want to get the work done right and get the services I asked for and have them give me my motor's measurements. The people who work there are genuinely nice. They forgot a few of my parts and had to drive back there twice, which is really my fault for not double checking everything and they forgot to pressure test my head, which I really felt they should have done BEFORE resurfacing it, but my head ended up being fine so everything worked out. I would have hated to have had to do a full rebuild on the head when replacement heads are so plentiful (or have to pay for a resurface on a head I'm not going to use) All in all, this isn't a bad shop but there are way better shops out there who, at this price point, do cleaner work. Everything is going to work out with my motor rebuild, and there really wasn't anything catastrophically wrong with their work, but after spending $320 for what is essentially a head resurfacing, block hone and cleaning, I really feel like I shouldn't have to go back and clean my motor again. If after all of this you still decide to use this shop, which is understandable considering there are times when you need things done quick or other shops aren't available, you should expect to have to do some after work before slapping your motor together. I would also recommend you COMPLETELY dissemble everything you bring them for a hot tank, because they aren't to touch anything that they don't have to. read more

My truck runs like new and zero problems with my rebuilt engine. Their prices were better and warranty double of what I found from other shops. They honored their guarantee. I had to bring it in for a water leak and despite my previous bad review they took care of it with a smile.

Avoid this place. This is one of the worst shops I have ever worked with. I paid top dollar to have a motor rebuilt here only to have the following occur: 1. Car was returned to me after rebuild leaking coolant at the head due to improper torque. Car overheated constantly on the drive home, and again following "repair" of the leak. I towed the car to Coast immediately and they did make an attempt to re-torque the heads and resolve the overheating problem. They did not. 2. They charged me for a fan clutch at the time of rebuild which was never installed. They had my car twice after I complained of overheating, charged me for the part, and it was never installed. I can't understand how this is even possible. I know this to be fact since the car continued to overheat after Coast rebuilt the motor, attempted to fix the head gasket leak after their rebuild, and supposedly replaced every major component of the cooling system: radiator, water pump, hoses, thermostat, and FAN CLUTCH. At this point I gave up on Coast and took it to another shop and asked them to diagnose the problem. They documented that the fan clutch was failing and was most likely the original OEM unit. After replacing the fan clutch, the overheating problems were resolved. So I have a receipt from Coast charging me for a fan clutch at the time of rebuild, and I have a receipt from another shop that actually fixed my problem stating that there is no way the fan clutch they replaced was anywhere close to new and that it was not functional. 3. They poorly spray painted my valve covers, thermostat housing, timing belt covers, and numerous other parts in my engine bay. I am talking the worst backyard spray paint job you have ever seen. I did not ask for this, I asked for a professional rebuild. It looks like they didn't clean or prep the surfaces at all but just rattle canned over whatever was on there. It looks far worse than what I brought in, and will cost me hundreds to undo the damage. Additionally, I have paint particles in the coolant and have had to flush my system twice since receiving the auto from Coast to try to get the spray paint out of my cooling system. You can do way better than this place in LA. Avoid unless you like returning your car multiple times to have the job done right and amateur spray paint jobs are your thing. read more
