I have been a patron of all the Binny's in the surrounding area. Today I was at the Niles location, and will not choose it in the future. Binny's always has a great selection, reasonable prices and they are always helpful in making great recommendations. We end up spending lots of money every time we visit and have built up a decent amount of rewards points, so every time we shop, we use apply a $10 reward, it's not a lot relative to the $400 plus we typically spend but it's a nice gesture showing customer appreciation, however, at my visit today, they wouldn't give me the $10 reward because the account is under my husband's name. I've never been told this before, even though they said "it's always been the policy". Needless to say, I didn't feel like an appreciated customer. read more

Can you give a Binny's location less than 5 stars? They sell alcohol... that's all you need to know! I've never had bad service here because anytime I have ever asked if they have something specific, they always walk me to the location of what I want, or the location of something similar. This happened to me today because I was looking for those cans of premixed Jack and Coke, but since literally no one sells them anymore, including this place, the woman showed me something similar. Very helpful! They have my Blueberry Maple Stout by Saugatuck Brewing, so for that, I have to love this place! Do not order anything from this business. They shipped a bottle for a birthday present that was subsequently lost in the mail. Since then, nobody from Binny's or the delivery company (SpeeDee Delivery) have made any efforts to fix the situation. My card was charged and they took their money but never delivered what was paid for. After multiple attempts to get them to fix the situation, they stopped responding to me. I used to work in customer service, I was very respectful but increasingly direct as my inquiries continued to go unanswered. So don't bake this into a "Karen" situation. I don't care about mistakes being made. But if no efforts are made to rectify them, I will respond accordingly. I hope others avoid this business so they don't fall prey to the same negligence and unsatisfactory service. I have disputed the transaction and also filed complaints with the state Attorney General and Better Business Bureau. Hopefully someone fixes them because they're not doing it themselves. read more

Binny's Beverage Depot has a huge selection of alcoholic beverages. My buddy turned me onto a bottle of Yamasaki Single Malt Japanese Whiskey. I have been sipping it very sparingly. The last time I looked it was around $55/bottle. I hesitated to buy it because of the cost. Today I decided to bite the bullet and buy a refill as I am approaching empty. That is until I saw the price went up $20 to $75/bottle. This stuff is so smooth, but I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger and spent the $75 for a single bottle of scotch. Can I give negative stars? I like Binny's but I won't be shopping at the Milwaukee & Ballard location anymore which is unfortunate because my husband & I live around the corner. We had a horrible experience there last week. The cashier wouldn't sell us non-alcoholic beer because my husband forgot his wallet at home. I showed my ID, but that was not good enough for the sales rep woman. She called her the manager who said that was their policy and that everyone needs to show an ID even if you're buying chips. I knew that was false because my husband has never been asked to show his ID in the past and he always comes with me. I called around other stores to ensure that really was their policy which I do not see posted anywhere in their store. The manager lied to us. Another Binny's location manager told me the policy states if I have an ID and am of age then I may purchase any non-alcoholic beverage with my husband present with me in the store & it is not necessary for him to show an ID. We have gone to this location many times in the past, but not anymore. My husband and I felt embarrassed and experienced everyone staring at us like we were breaking the law. I will be calling corporate to report this manager for singling us out. It was uncalled for. She sees us there almost weekly. She has previously checked and seen my husband's passport in the past which she remarked why he had only a passport. I feel it is discriminatory because he's an immigrant. Many of my neighbors have told me she is a horrible manager there, but this was my first time I encountered such shaming. read more

A jam-packed, almost obscenely large liquor store, this Binny's offers everything from $9 pinot noirs to $800 bottles of cognac, from all parts of the globe. Folks working there know their stuff and answer questions and offer recommendations pleasantly and professionally. BF also loves this place for their huge cigar area. Now I don't know or care about cigars, but he says the kinds they carry are great, they are always fresh and the prices cant be beat (no city of Chicago tax). I'm sorry that it took me so long to get wise: the Niles Binny's is just plain bigger, thus their selection is superior. It's the most capacious Binny's I've visited, with more of a warehouse aesthetic; this carries the added bonus that a customer has plenty of elbow room whilst shopping. AND they have more checkout lanes, although they always seem to be less busy than either the Skokie or Lakeview locations. Plus they play WXRT. So if you take twenty minutes to make up your mind on a purchase, there is a good soundtrack to your indecision. I came here because the Skokie store didn't have a beer I was looking for but the helpful staff there did call the store in Niles, found it was there and then had them hold a bottle for me, then gave me the simple directions to go pick it up. I went to this Binny's found no one at the service desk, found no one there but noticed the 3 ladies all just hanging around the register. They looked like they could be Honey Boo-boo's northern kin especially after I got the blank stare I received after I told them that a bottle was being held for me and I'm here to pick it up, literally it was held for 15 minutes while I drove down there. She had no idea what I was talking about referred me to one of the other liquor Graeaes standing around, who similarly, had no idea what I was talking about. Did one of them not pick up the phone or got the beer or put it on hold? Fortunately, I saw it sitting there on the table of the service desk so Chickadee had no trouble 'helping me out' and let me buy the bottle of beer that I had already reserved. Big location...bigger than their Dempster locale, so it seemed to me even more of a selection, but as big as this place was...the Dempster location has a better cigar selection (and a walk-in humidor.) People were friendly, signage and advertising I saw was way cool and eye-catching. Always had a few customers mulling around and the staff seemd busy, but not busy to stop to help someone who needed it. :) My one thing I didn't dig, and honestly this was the reason I gave it only 4 stars....the water cooler that cools your bottles or wine...was murky...so even though I know the bottle are sealed, I am kinda weird about that and still held my bottles in it instead of letting them stand in there, so of course I held them for alittle longer than the 7 minutes they the signage there recommended. Even when I brought it up to someone, they agreed that 'yea, the water shouldnt be that murky' but then went back to what he was doing. I understand that sometimes maybe the ink bleeds off the bottles or dust and dirt, but brackish seemed...it didn't sit right with me. Great selection of craft beer. We came in search of a rare release and they had it in stock. Staff was awkward about it -- there was a bottle limit. They made us ring it up as separate transactions even though we were both standing there. I guess if you want to get technical about it... and clearly they did. The store is clean and well organized. Staff are generally helpful and knowledgeable. They'll push the Binny's card on you, which isn't a great deal unless you buy mostly wine and champagne. We don't. The obvious highlight was the kid working the register who had an old school Nintendo controller belt buckle and was wearing a name tag that said, "Mario." We called ahead and they put them aside for us. When we arrived and asked for them they did have some difficulty locating them. Unfortunately the wine guy that we spoke with just put them aside on the wine desk without a name or anything. The woman at the customer service desk first looked behind the customer service and then took a very long time "in the back" When she came back empty handed we all finally walked over to the wine desk to find them just sitting there without a name or instruction attached. During that time he didn't look up at mom and dad while telling us how precious our daughter is and that she has bedroom eyes. LOVE & HAPPINESS; WINE & HAPPINESS! I decided to stop off at this Binny's Beverage Depot after finishing a doctor's appointment near this Binny's. We had a Verdicchio white-wine with our dinner at Due Lire in the City. The wine is exceptional in terms of a subtle, crisp, clean white fruit flavors. As I swirled the wine in my glass, at Due Lire, I took a whiff of it and noticed it had aromas offset by nuances of citrus, almonds and tree blossoms. It also has a slightly bitter note which I detected on my palate, especially toward the back of my throat. It was light and smooth and I just had to find out more about this wine. Yeah, like the old song, "Love and Happiness" by Al Green I got my fix of love and happiness along with some wine and happiness! I did a little bit of research on this particular wine, and learned that it has been cultivated for hundreds of years in the Marche region of Central Italy. It is a versatile variety, used both for light, easy-drinking table wines, and for more complex, age-worthy examples. Critics have commonly lauded Verdicchio as being one of Italy's best white-wine grape varieties. It has citrus flavors like lemon and grapefruit, along with a bit of almond flavor, accompanied by bitter notes when the wine is young. As it ages though it produces a sweet suggestion of honey and marzipan. We collect wines from around the world and have over 100 bottles of wine at home. My husband had a wine room created with the "right" temperature years ago. The last time I had a Verdicchio wine was over three years ago. I had forgotten how incredibly superb this wine really is, and the wine bottle is a light greenish color shaped like a fish, which is really cool. I am not one to go to a liquor store by myself. Usually, if I am going to such a place I am with a friend or my husband and we are purchasing something to bring to someone's house for dinner, Ravinia or a Summer time reunion with over 50 people. In that case, we need to pick up a lot more than just one measly bottle of wine! I was impressed with the selection of wines that they have at this particular Binny's and enjoyed browsing. I always seek out wines that are unique and are not in our collection of wines at home. I saw a few unique items here. There are grocery stores for food and other things, but this place is a grocery store for all kinds of alcohol, from wines to spirits to gin to rum to an enormous variety of beers and even pre-mixed Margaritas in a can. In terms of customer service, I will say they are A-OK, so 3-stars. It wasn't over-the-top customer service, but it was adequate. The individuals working here, on the day I stopped in, are average in terms of their wine knowledge. I asked questions, but got the "deer in the headlights" look from the young man who probably wondered what the frick-frack was I asking him. Yeah, whatever! There is ample free parking, but watch out for the potholes or you may end up in another galaxy! The price-point varies from $6.99 for a bottle of inexpensive wine to over $800 for the world's finest cognac. I ended up spending close to $40 on three bottles of wine (two bottles were only $9.99). I don't know a Marechal Foch from a Mourvedre. . .enter the truly helpful, non-condescending Binny's sommelier! This is a very nice place as far as liquor stores go. It's bigger than most, and carries a lot of specialty items: imported beer, micro-brewed beer, elegant wines, lots of liquers that you cannot find anywhere else. They always have something on sale, and if you love "coolers," they have a lot of different varieties. The other thing i love about them is that their staff KNOWS their wines and how to prepare them. The cashier who I think was the manager in the purple shirt on cashier station number one made me take my mask off to check my ID. I have been here many times even during the time period where you have to wear a mask and no one ever made me do that. Also everywhere else I went to to buy alcohol no one made me do that, such as various grocery stores. You can clearly tell I match he picture in my ID even wearing the regular surgeon mask that is required to enter. You should not be required to take your mask off after touching all the surfaces especially when they are the ones requiring you to wear the mask in he first place. I recently visited Binny's in search of a beer that my local independent retailer stopped carrying. A helpful staff member saw me getting lost in their sea of delicious brews and offered to help me. It turned out that this location doesn't carry it, but another one does. He even offered to call them for me if I was going to head over to pick up some. Later, another employee offered to help me find something, too. Aside from helpful, knowledgable staff (try coming here during a wine event and have your mind blown), the impressive thing about Binny's is the selection. If you like craft beer, it's like being a kid in a candy store. They also carry a few unusual items your independent booze retailer may not stock, such as three different brands of ginger beer (necessary to make dark & stormies) and elderflower liqueur. This is also a liquor store with real carts. If you're shopping with a young child (yes, I go on beer runs with my toddler) or making a large purchase, this makes everything so much easier. I cannot give them more stars because the checkout clerks are sometimes rude, plus an awful lot of people get arrested in the parking lot. Sooooo, I had the opportunity to work another Binny's sampling (Kahlua and Beefeater Gin this time). This was my first visit to this location while working. I have shopped here in the past, however I always know what I'm getting, and have never asked for assistance from anyone. Since I was here for 3 and 1/2 hours for this event, I had the opportunity to watch the staff work for a while. The store management team as well as all the employees were super knowledgeable about the products. They offered customers assistance regularly, and answered questions knowledgeably. They were all working so fast to refill any low or empty displays or shelves. I was truly amazed at how busy these people are all the time.
