Whenever we travel, the hubby and I try to have one nice dinner. Tim Raue has always been on my radar, so we just went for it. When I initially checked, the latest rez time was 7:30pm. It was 7:45pm when I checked back later so I just booked that. We had plans earlier so I wanted the latest time possible.
I like how they let you have one of each menu. I adore variety and sampling, so this was awesome. Both menus came with a plate of assorted little amuses. A fun way to start the meal. We decided to get all the supplements, so had a chance to taste everything. I had read the langoustine was not to be missed. Agreed. I adored the tender lil lobster and spice from the wasabi. The suckling pig was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, but they bring over the piece of pig to your table, take a piece off to plate, and then take the rest away. The cavewoman in me was like, leave the bone and additional meat! Of course, I didn't say anything.
Overall, some solid dishes, but what I found odd was both menus seem to have the same flavor profile. I though the german one would heartier, more savory and richer than the asian menu. The asian menu was a good balance of fusion, but a lot of the dishes kinda tasted the same - a lot of lemongrass, earthy mushroom, etc. If you hadn't told me which was which, for most courses, I don't think I would have been able to tell you which one was the german one.
Service was great! Exactly what you would expect from a fine dining establishment. We were having a late anniversary dinner and they gave us an additional complimentary dessert at the end. Very sweet.
This was definitely a splurge. Would I do it again? Probably not. But glad I finally tried Tim Raue.
