I donated plasma today after receiving a flyer in the mail. The screening process was thorough and informative, and the staff were patient with any questions. The set up process took longer than I expected but then again, I was a first-time donator. The actual donation process took approximately 45 minutes from start to finish, and was hardly painful. I went to this location for the first time last week. I will never be donating blood or plasma again for fear of this happening again. I was only supposed to donate half of a container but there was miscommunication and they took out the plasma too quickly and did not return my blood. Before they realized their mistake they tried to rush me out and I almost passed out. They then had to try to put an IV in my other arm to return the blood, and after missing my vein 3 times my entire arm now looks bruised because of the blood sitting under my skin instead of in my vein read more

I went several times with different results but this last time ended in pain and disappointing resolution of such. Beware! Because once I came back to inform them of the horrifically PAINFUL bruising I was brushed off and told yeah, it happens, thats normal. This. Is. Normal. Unable to bend arm, unable to sleep because of the extreme pain through the night, unable to work because of the nature of my work requires my arm, etc. And no I did NOT return to ask for compensation or anything by any means. I actually went in to tell them about how it could've been prevented and there was only ONE young lady with a HORRIBLE case of "I don't wanna be here" that caused this. Several people had messed with my line very gently to try and fix the return and draws that were closing off. But she instead was very rough, very rude and completely dismissive of me telling her of any pain. I do wanna be clear that when I walked in to show it, the people at front were concerned and immediately started on getting a manager. It was the "higher ups" that dismissed me as inconsequential. This place is great is you need some regular extra cash without the commitment of a part-time job. The first visit takes about 3 hours, and you have to provide a driver's licence, proof of residence, and social security. They're very accomodating to their main demographic (college students) in this regard. My parents were holding onto my social security card, and because I lived in the dorms on campus, I didn't have any mail I could bring in. They let me use my FAFSA to verify my SS number and let me log onto my residence account to verify that I lives on campus. The first visit procedure is very much like donating blood. Expect to go through some questionnaires that will ask about high-risk AIDS activity, your travel history, recent tattoos or piercings, medications etc. They will also prick your finger to make sure you're healthy enough to donate. You'll then go through a short consultation and EXTREMELY basic check-up with a doctor. After all this is done, you will finally get the okay to donate. The staff was extremely accommodating and obviously knew what they were doing. I was always repeatedly asked throughout the process if I was feeling okay. Towards the end I began feeling faint and nauseous and the staff reacted immediately and took care of me until the the episode passed. The doctor asked me a couple of questions to figure out what the cause was, and eventually it was decided that I hadn't eaten enough before I went in. He advised that should I chose to come again that I should eat a heartier meal before I donate. Overall, despite my reaction, the wonderful and friendly staff has me convinced to come back again. The second donation and all those thereafter are a much quicker process, you just have to sign in and they'll take you through the blood sampling and questionnaire process before calling you back. The actual donating process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for most. Either way, they have some TVs in the back that you can watch (but you usually can't hear it over the music they play), you can bring your own entertainment in the form of a laptop, ipad or iphone, or if you're a student you can use the time to catch up on assigned reading. The pay is okay, for first time donors, the pay scale goes $25 $30 $35 $40 for the first four, then alternates between $15 and $20 once you become a regular. You can get more if you get a coupon from the newspaper or their website If you plan on coming in I reiterate, make sure you have at least 3 hours to kill, eat well before and after, drink a lot of water the before and day of, and take a little time to rest in the waiting room after they release you in case you start to feel faint so that it doesn't happen when you're driving. read more

I first started going here at the end of the year last year. I loved the idea of helping others and really appreciated the extra cash so we could pay or bills. At first the staff was very friendly and I really enjoyed going to see all the friendly people. Starting around Christmas I noticed that the staff was becoming less friendly and less motivated to do their jobs. They were doing a lot of changes in the way the processed people and a lot of change is staff. I figured this was the reason that some of the staff members were so ill. Well, things never changed the same staff members seem very ill and are even rude every time I go up there and they are there. I will no longer donate at this location because I am so very tired of some of the staff members being rude to me when I go up there. I will not say no one should ever go because I have several friends that go, but I will say don't always expect the staff members to treat you kindly and be respectful to you. read more
