Want an authentic meat market take the drive out to Bird Farm Meats. Yes it's a little out of the way but the savings and quality are with it. Great weekly specials and meat bundles. The pepper hickory smoked bacon is a definite must have and the 10lbs bag of chicken wings are large. There is produce, homemade seasoning packets for sale and all the odds and ends like ziplock baggies, plates, etc to have you walking from store to BBQ in no time flat. read more

Always friendly service! Been going here since I was a child....so close to 50 years and the same lady waits on me from childhood. They know what they are talking about whenever you ask a question. They will cut your meat fresh for you however you want it while you wait! My favorite is you cannot beat the prices. All other meat markets have much higher for the same thing. read more

I have been getting my prime rib roast from here for about 5 years. I was very disappointed with it this year. It was a 4-5 pound boneless rib roast and almost half of it was a chunk of fat. It wasn't just the fat surrounding the meat it was a whole hunk of fat. Very disappointed. I won't buy my prime rib roast from here again. It was expensive and we hardly had any meat. read more

They claim their meat is local, however it is not! They buy it from IBP (who is owned by Tyson), and Wayne Farms. Both are large commercial meat companies and definitely not local! Hormones are used in the beef, per Tysons IBP website. This is not at all what Bird's portrays they are selling. I don't like being lied to. Not to mention, the Nathan's hot dogs I purchased there for $5 per package were expired by 2 months! The only good thing I can say is the employees are very friendly. read more

Don't go on Saturday morning. Most times when burger is on sale, they don't have it or there's a wait or line. Yesterday I drove 45 minutes to get the 2.99 burger. Arrived to many cars in lot. I went in to find about 20 people waiting. Waiting because another couple bought 4 carts full of meat. all wrapped in small packages. They bought up all of the burger. I just left not wanting to wait for them to process more burger or wait for the 20 people to get their orders. Large orders can be done online and ready to go. read more

I love this small local butcher shop. Their prices are unbeatable when it comes to any other meat market. Their selection is also great! You can call ahead and have them do specialty cuts for you or wrap anything up for you. Easy to get to this place and reminds you of a small mom and pop shop. We heard about this meat market when we purchased our freezer. It's off the beaten path, country store in Howard City that is quite interesting. It's kept very cold in there because not much is in cold cases, doesn't have to be. There are a few other grocery and produce items sold also. The meat case doesn't look terribly clean but is usually kept full. The meats are reasonably priced compared to grocery stores and are very good. The steaks are quite tender and very thick. Each one could serve at least two people. We bought one steak that was a cheaper cut but was recommended we marinate it. We did but didn't help much but I'm sure if it went in the crock pot it would be perfect for beef dishes. The hamburger is very good with minimal fat content. The pork steaks are thin cut and thick cut. The thick cut were excellent on the grill. Again, one was large enough for 2-3 people. They also sell larger quantities of some items on the shelf, such as 10lb pkgs of chicken and hamburger. The employees are all very nice and also helpful. We go early afternoon on a week day and it's not too busy but I hear it's standing room only on a Saturday. I highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area. read more

I know that the locals brag on this place like it's something special, but I end up shaking my head almost every time I go there. The quality of the meat might beat what you get from your chain grocery stores, but doesn't stack up compared to what I expect from a butcher shop. It seems inconsistent to me and the staff there aren't exactly professional. I've personally witnessed some example of them being more concerned with their personal lives than helping the customers nearly every time I've been in there, and when Bird's is busy, the line often runs out the door and up the block. I sometimes suspect those crazy lines are half the reason people think it's so great. I'm sure there must be some reason people so consistently talk this place up, but I'll be darned if I can figure it out. read more

I have never been so humiliated, embarrassed and angry by the owner of a store like I was today at Birds meat market. I emailed the store yesterday to find out how much a short loin was and wanted to put in an order to pick one up today. No one got back with me to let me know if I could do that. I went to the store this morning to get the loin. When I got there they could not find the short loins so I needed to wait for the butcher to get there. In the meantime I needed to use the rest room I have been to Birds many times to get my spring and winter meat and had used the restroom nearly every time because like so many I drive a long ways to get there. I was told I could not use the restroom because it was no longer available to customers because someone had "pooped" all over the bathroom and no longer was available for any other customers to use. I asked if there was any other place around where I could go and was told I could use the "woods". Women up there was tough. I am 74 years old and I felt like I was just a nobody. There was an older woman who worked there and I asked her if she can wait very long when she has to go the restroom and she shook her head no, but did not say anything. This woman who was so rude to me gave me a very hard look in my face and seemed very defiant. I feel that her attitude towards me was an attitude towards all women young and old. I wonder if she dislikes her mother and grandmother as much as she seemed to dislike me. I don't know what has happened in her life to cause her to be so angry at people but she sure did not feel very Christian to me. So many small businesses need to be reminded that it is us little people who help make a business for you. I still spent my money there today for the meat because I had gone all that way and spent my money for gas and the time it took to get there. I have spent many hundreds of dollars at that market over the years. But I will no longer give my business and money to Birds. There are plenty of other butcher shops around that would like me to shop at their place. read more

Bird Farm grows its own beef cattle. After seeing the documentary Eating Animals, I was becoming vegetarian. If I do ever eat meat again, it will be from a humane, local farm like Bird's. If you are looking for meat cuts of any kind this is the place! Prices are very good. You can buy chicken, pork or beef steaks, ground, jerky, german smoked sausages, pickled hot dogs, ground sausage, pepperoni sticks you name it they got it. They also have some produce but that is not their forte although they also carry some griceries such as pancake mix, spices, rice, beans etc. Definitely will stop here again. Wear a jacket as it seems like the whole store is a meat freezer. read more

I just stopped there and bought pork butt for $1.09 a pound. We bought 4 large pork butt roasts which my husband puts in the smoker. We also picked up 50 pounds of local red potatoes, unclassified (which means they are all sizes), for $8.99. Our total bill for 4 large pork roasts, two 10 pound bags of leg/thigh chicken quarters (49 cents a pound), that 50 pounds of potatoes, a pretty good sized chunk of colby cheese, two packages of cheddar brats and a bag of gummy worms for the kids was less than $60. We went on a Tuesday, only waited in line at the meat counter behind two people, but they only had one cashier so we waited in line to check out for about 15 minutes. read more

Great deals however, the items that were on sale (that I bought) smelled like they were going bad. I did eat two of the items without getting sick but, I like "fresh" meat. One item I bought didn't even have an expiration date. It said not for retail sale. The clerk did not know the expiration date but said it just came in yesterday. The item was frozen so I will just use it up as soon as possible. I only went there because I thought that "all" their meat was home grown without hormones and antibiotics. The clerk said none of the items they had was their livestock. Didn't have any products that were hormone free or antibiotic free. I must say, they did have excellent prices though! So if you don't mind that the meat is at or very near expiration, then this is the place for you. read more

People come from everywhere for there meats THEY ARE THE BEST FROM PORK..TO A NICE RIB EYE.YOU Can't beat there PRICES either there meat is always fresh and the best I got friends who call weekely to see whats in the ad.
