My brother and I checked this place out while on a family vacation in the area. The big draw for us was the giant donuts. Its not a very big place, but its packed with all kinds of good looking meats. They had samples at the door and they were very good. We purchased a few donuts and took them back to the family. For Easter Sunday I went out and Spent $27.00 on a smoked ham a 6 lbs ham. We cooked it according to their instructions then allowed ham to rest. Then we tried to cut the ham. That was Impossible. There was so much fat in the ham and very little meat. We didn't eat any ham on Easter ...simply threw it all away. Needless to say we were disappointed. I won't be going back again read more

Big thanks to MLive for the heads up on Mac's Meats, with their Michigan's Best feature on them! This is a small, unassuming storefront that packs a BIG PUNCH of deliciousness. Currently, there is a limit of 5 shoppers into the store, because of Covid19 regulations (thank you!). One time we were there, there was a jolly, patient line of people waiting to get in. No complaints were heard; everyone knew it was worth the wait. Did you know Mac's makes 32 kinds of fresh brats? I'll circle back to that, but let me tell you the VERY first thing you need to buy for grilling: their hot dogs. They are, hands down, the best hot dogs I've ever had. Large, tasty, and all-beef goodness await you. We've tried several kinds of the fresh brats, from 2 different visits. The brats are all frozen. Tip from the store: boil for 10 minutes before grilling. When we're not around a grill, we bake them in the oven. They are delicious! Some unexpected flavors were hit and miss: the chicken fajita, chili cheese dog, and cudighy are incredible! The breakfast-type brat was too sweet (that's on us, but a good lesson if you don't want a sweet brat). There's also a meat counter, donuts and fresh bread/buns (out both times we went), and lunchmeat/deli area. The staff are super friendly. There is a club to join that will give you discounts. Do you know HOW good this place it? We drove an HOUR out of our way, heading up north, to go there. Worth every minute. read more

Great selection of homemade brats. The chicken Cordon Bleu and the cherry ones are my favorite! They also have homemade stuffed tots that are amazing in the air fryer. Best mom and pop place on the planet. I'm not exaggerating when I say they have the best bacon I've EVER had. I live out of state and when I was traveling there I thought they may close before I got there I called and asked if they would stay open and they did. As my bro in-law were about to spend a couple hundred dollars I said I'd make it worth their while, and they said they'd stay open even if I was only buying a donut. Checked out Macs today on the way back to GR from Ludington after hearing about it from a friend. Picked up sausages (Chicken Apple and Bratwurst). One of the best brats I have ever had. Moist, hardly any fat, organic and not overly seasoned like many mass produced meats. The Chicken apple was also very good. Followed the shop's direction to boil the sausages while in package for 10 minutes, then remove from package and grill. They also have a bakery section with a good selection of very good pastries. I make sausages so I think I can say I know sausages. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely stop by again. Not too far from US-31. read more

Good meats and a lot to select from in the frozen section. The pork chops were amazing and our ribeye steaks were delicious (I'll get them cut thicker next time). Their bacon - smoked in-house - is also excellent - very nice taste and not overly salty as with store-bought brands (and do NOT microwave this "dry" bacon as it will burn easily - low and slow per the instructions of the woman who checked us out). Also meal-starters like stuffed chicken breasts or pork chops. Small but excellent selection of sides, condiments, and bakery items. If you should have any questions on preparation, the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to give you hints on cooking to show their wares to best advantage. Samples of 2-3 of their sausages are always available and tempting. Tuesday's feature take home meal deals and summer Thursdays they have bbq ribs ready to go. Some prices are a bit higher than a grocery store, but the quality of both food and service make it well worthwhile. We stumbled across Mac's Meat a couple years ago, it's a little out-of-the-way on Old 31 between Rothberry and New Era. The place we used to buy jerky had gone out of business so we decided to give Mac's a try. It was a great find! Not only was the jerky top notch, but they have a full selection of other meats too. The pork chops were great, bacon is outstanding, bratwurst, cold cuts, beef and burgers, etc. and be sure to try the baked goods too. Mac's is now a regular part of our grocery shopping. read more
