Been around since at least the 1980s maybe even earlier... standard pub fare which means a wide selection, mainstay favorites, and changing menus. A quick walk out of the gate, quite good fish & chips. I couldn't try the beer due to a work event. Pleasant atmosphere. Lots of screens for football (soccer). Pool table. Nice outdoor seating. It was pretty empty on a Saturday night. Unfortunately it sounds like the kitchen closes by 8pm so it's not a good late night stop. Food was decent. Everything was pretty flavorful. The Christmas cocktail (merry cherry Bakewell) was good but not very strong. Has a parking lot but it has pot holes a-plenty. You order at the bar and pay as you go. Review for motel as well as pub... I stayed here for 3 nights with my husband while visiting family. The pub is quite good and the food was great for the value. I had gammon and chips and it was quite tasty, so if you are coming for food, you are good to go! The motel is beyond sad and is a 1 Star rating. We stay there because of convenience and proximity but I would not recommend at all. I have stayed here 3 times in the last 4 years and it continues to decline. This last time, we were told there were no cleaners. The place is filthy and continues to be filthy. Things like heat and water pressure are inconsistent as well. Also basics that are offered at every hotel, such as a hair dryer are not available. With a little remodeling and cleaning this place could be acceptable so am unsure why they can't do the bare minimum. Super sad. We won't be back. read more

Had been to Bird in Hand ten years ago and was excited to go back. The patrons and staff were very friendly and my Carlsberg Extra Gold was cold and in a Carlsberg glass (you don't always get that in the states). The food was hot and amazing portion sizes. Have been told that because of its proximity to the RAF base you don't get a true "English" pub but i recommend it and hope to be back soon!!! read more

When we arrived we were told to sit where we'd like, but weren't told to order at the bar. Eventually someone told us. They did go out of the way to also let me order Yorkshire pudding. Stayed here two nights on business. Rooms were basic, but clean, but fair for the price. Says food from 12 until 10pm, part of reason I booked here. Was informed at check-in stops at 9pm. On second night, ordered food at 8.35pm to be told kitchen shut early as they had too many orders! Short after three guys who came in after me got served(RAF). Questioned this and was lied to. Bar staff drinking shots all night behind the bar and kitchen staff who were so busy earlier were serving themselves and customers drinks. Bad experience, only good thing was guy called Kevin, seemed to be only one with any professionalism. In short, if not in RAF, forget it!!! read more

We sat down and no one came to our table. I finally went to the bar and asked to order food and the girl told me to place the order at the bar, pay for it (with tip), and our food would be brought to our table. I didn't like how I needed to leave the tip before receiving any service, but ok. I don't know if it's me, I may just be having a bad day. The waitress seemed very frustrated taking just my drink order, and I ordered water. I felt the need to hurry up and order. Very convenient pub food nearest to Mildenhall RAF. I ordered the Yorkie Beef Wrap Meal which was good. Service was a little slow but the atmosphere is light and the staff and locals are friendly. I've been here a few times, chicken salad was good, Tikka Masala is really good other than that your screwed. Tonight I tried to order two different dishes and was told they were out finally settled for a burger with chicken and prawns. Everything was over cooked and tasteless. My friend asked for bacon and didn't get it and then requested mayo and waited 15 minutes for it. I live within walking distance and frequent this establishment a lot in the summer. You can take your dog and sit outside and have a pint or two and hang out with friends. I recommend getting the non-carbonated Green King IPA and the chicken wings as an app. As far as mains go they are on par with other pubs in the local area, I enjoy their beef and ale pie and occasionally get the fish and chips. The desserts are spot on and aim to please. I am giving a rating of 4 based on the what this establishment is...a pub and not fine dining, Gordon Ramsey isn't cooking here but the food is hot, cooked to order, and tasty.
