If you do need to come here, make sure you bring your credit card, and be prepared to pay. Usually they take a $500 part payment before they will even do an initial consultation. On the 2 occasions I went here it was to take two sick kittens. Both needed to be put down, but only after they had tried to rehydrate them, both occasions ended up costing $1000 plus. However, my parents have used AE when their cat ripped out her stitches after desexing and pulled out all her intestines. Their bill was in excess of $1500, but the cat survived and is going strong. The fact is in the position, most people will opt for this type of service rather than watch their animals suffer.

Our dog was hit by a car on a sunday afternoon. The care he received was perfect from the way he…read morewas handled, to the cleanliness and comfort of the pen he was in, and the medical decision making. He was there overnight, and we were kept informed by phone, and welcome to come and visit him before we went to bed. He was transferred to our usual vet in the morning for his final treatment and the communication with our vet was also perfect. We as grateful to have such a service available if we need it again. It is a costly exercise, but if you consider the setup and expertise, we got value for our money.

My cat hates the vet. She turns into a vicious little monster every time the word vet is even…read morementioned. So having to actually take her into one is a momentous task. The last time I took her to the vet she ended up clawing the back of the vet, and trying to swing from the 2 meter high window sill. I took her into Glenvale vet, in Glen Waverley, ready for a war. We waited less than ten minutes, which was a good start. When we were called in, the vet was lovely. She was very gentle and friendly towards my cat, and my cat really responded to that. I was shocked when she proceeded to purr and rub herself up against the vet. I have never seen her behave so relaxed in the company of a vet. She was even more than happy to allow the vet to take her temp. My cat ended up needed a course of antibiotics, and I took her back in for a follow up and was not charged for the second consult. I thought that was fantastic. It is expensive enough to care for animals without the added cost of expensive vet trips. Even now I live a good distance away from this vet, but it's worth me traveling there when my cat needs attention because I know she feels comfortable there.

I was housesitting for a family friend, had taken their two dogs on a nice long walk and was about…read more10 metres from home when the younger animal (a spectacularly stupid dog) decided that the best way to make friends with his aggressive barking next door neighbour was to shove his nose through the fence and into the snarling dog's mouth. Genius. This is a Sunday, mind you, so it was going to be hard to find a vet open that was prepared to clean up the mess and stop the bleeding. Luckily for me Greencross was just down the road and open! Dragged dumb dog quickly to the vet, while he cheerfully wagged and rubbed his bleeding nose all over the backseats of my car. He then proceeded to pee all over the floor of the vets (but, given the mop bucket behind the reception counter, I suspect it's something they're used to). The vet reassured me that he was going to be fine and I was sent home with a freshly tetanus-jabbed dog who was far more proud of himself than he really should have been. What a relief! When the home-owners came back a few weeks later, they insisted on paying me back for the vet visit. Why? Because this was not the first time the dog had done it and they felt responsible. Oh dear.
