Honestly, the best home cooked style Mexican food in Traverse City, and it's not even close. Kind of a down and dirty spot, but pleasant enough visually. Sometimes the place is filled with smoke and fryer grease fumes. I won't go in when it's like that. And hopefully they get it worked out. No alcohol served (that I'm aware of) Sadly, staff attitudes, dismissiveness, disrespectful attitudes toward customers, often closed during open hours, with no sign. If you come in within 15 minutes of closing, they will announce to you that "We are closing." We've seen it happen to a number of guests, who are wondering what they did wrong, to get scolded. The staff apparently feels, if the restaurant closes at 7 PM, they should be walking out the door at 7:01 PM. That would be nice, but that's not how it works. What this tells us is, there is a skilled Mexican chef, real home cooking, behind this place. But there is no management skill or discipline. That also makes me worry about cleanliness and sanitation, because if you have no principles and no guidance or leadership, you can't expect a staff of, essentially children, to perform as adult professionals. Probably the hardest review I've ever had to write, and I hope they fix the BS with the staff. Food is absolutely delicious.

Ok, to find this little gem in Cedar was such a pleasant surprise!…read more We were not hungry in the least bit but when we discovered the Polish Countryside Kitchen we had to get a "Scooby snack" of pierogi and cucumber dill salad. The gentleman running the truck was super friendly and took the time to share with us how he operates his farm and his motivation to do so. The kitchen prides itself in serving authentic Polish cuisine with only the best of ingredients. Since it's a food trailer, you get to enjoy your food outdoors, and in this day the weather was perfect, it was fun to watch the motorcycles ride by as we ate our snack. Now onto the food! We tried the cheddar potato and it was delicious! the pierogi were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crispiness from searing and the filling was very light but full of flavor. And the cucumbers dill salad reminded me of my Babusia made when I would visit her as a boy. .

The owner is amazing, we chatted with him at length about his farm, standards, etc. It's refreshing to meet someone that cares as much about what they are consuming as you do! This guy gets it. Tried the goat burger, not at all what I expected! Was way less gamey...more like a bison/veal. Definitely try it! So nice he had a GF option for this, the grilled cabbage and beets (seemed like a beet hummus almost) was 11/10. The pierogi? 20/10. Even though he doesn't make his own (uses Srodek's) IT IS THE BEST PIEROGI I HAVE EVER TASTED! The secret? He cooks it in lard from his own farm. The kapusta & kielbasa flavor was my fav. Also ordered a birch sap drink, and there are so many health benefits! Loved it! While I found it surprising he wasn't familiar with Polish terminology in conversation, and he told us he'd be open on the 4th...that was a lie. A bummer since we drove far, but it's his business, he can do what he wants. Believe they are open Friday-Monday, but don't quote me on that. Lol If you are in TC, Glenn Arbor, Empire, or anywhere around Sleeping Bear Dunes, Polish Countryside Kitchen is 100% worth the drive!

The décor features plastic Christmas-colored chairs and a couple tattered beach umbrellas. Your dining view includes a dying carwash and a collection of junk cars rusting in the tall weeds. Best bet is to avoid the exhaust effluvia and the afore-mentioned ambience altogether, and take your food to go. The fries are soggy, the coleslaw distinctively Midwestern in style, meaning the main ingredient is corn-fed (as in syrup). The tartar sauce is more like tarter salad dressing, which is an interesting take, but not so bad. There are several fish options on the menu, but the reason to come here is for the Whitefish. In a sandwich, in a basket, tucked into a taco or solo, whitefish is the star. It comes steaming in slabs, each piece the size of a fisherman's hand, moist, succulent and juicy inside, crunchy-crispy straight-from-the-fryer searing hot on the outside. In all probability that fish was swimming in Lake Michigan less than 24 hours ago. Every time we have it we think it's the best deep-fried whitefish ever. The best, even though you can get the same specialty cheaper in a dozen places nearby, and that's factoring in the notion that whitefish elsewhere comes with a waiter and indoor plumbing.
