We passed this place when we first came into town and looked it up online once we settled. Environment: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, the vibes weren't what they seemed or even what they appeared to have been 10 months ago based on yelper posts. The beautiful, tiled bar wasn't open or on display, the indoor dining area was closed off for employees only, and the patio where the food truck sits was littered with dead leaves and debris--unseen from our initial drive-by glance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]That being said, the music selection was nice, the seating that is there is sturdy (though the tables could use a wipe-down between guests), and there were twinkle lights. You can never really go wrong with twinkle lights.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food: Disappointing... I ordered the Crispy Shrimp, Chopped Beef and Cheese, and Smoked Potato tacos. These tacos were mostly forgettable, except for how unnecessarily sweet two of them were. Instead of being crisp, and fresh, the shrimp taco was overshadowed by the overwhelmingly sweet, green curry mayo. No acidity or brightness, just herbs and sugar. The chopped beef and cheese initially reminded me of NYC, the Dorito crumbles adding to the bodega-inspired feel. After taking a bite, though, the resemblance was in name only. The candied chiles not only overpowered the palate, but they were mushy and unpleasant. The potato taco was the saving grace. However, it was only marginally better... The initial bite was delightful after the back-to-back sugar bombs. Earthy and rich. The pepita and quinoa crunch was a welcomed touch. But something was missing. I still longed for acidity to balance it out. Maybe I just received too few of the pickles? Service: Service was sort of odd. The gentleman working the window was taking orders, handing out table markers, and running food. Meanwhile, there appeared to be several employees gathered inside the employees-only building, visible from the food truck/patio, seemingly having a meeting while business gradually picked up. It was confusing to see one person run around like a headless chicken--while remaining patient and friendly--and others, who appeared to be staff, weren't helping. Overall: It was less than mid. Tacos shouldn't have to rely on hot sauce to make them palatable or complete. That said, give the ppl some limes, too! Please consider adding limes to the condiments selection or something. The taco prices (and even the merch) definitely felt geared toward tourists and the overall lack of staffing (i.e. the dirty tables, patio area, and cashier doing 2-3 jobs) made for a less than stellar experience. I had to give it a 2. Also, a number-calling system or buzzers could help streamline service and take some pressure off the staff! And maybe get a phone number for this location... a franchise with one number that doesn't actually lead to a human is wild. read more

We stopped at the taco shop for lunch and were very pleased. They have many vegetarian and vegan options as well as meat. We had tacos and chips and salsa. There was a long line to order and the tables were all full. We found bar seating and were quickly served our chips while waiting for our tacos . I've been driving past Happy's Taco shop for at least a couple years and finally made time to stop in for lunch. What a great choice! The lamb cheeseburger taco was my favorite, followed closely by the chilaquiles taco, and while the crispy shrimp taco comes in third place, that's still a good place to be! We liked it so much that the next day we went back for more tacos and had it not rained on the third day, I suspect we might've stopped again then as well! read more

I'm sad we can only give 5 stars as otherwise I would give at least 10 for this amazing food truck! We have long loved this brand and now we're so stocked to see that they have a permanent location right in Boyne City! Amazing! The spot is right off the main road on the outskirts of town and has an ample parking lot, as well as seats in the shade and out in the sun. There is plenty of room for groups or singles, and when we visited the place was hopping. As per usual with a food truck you go up to the counter to order and they give you a remote which buzzes when your order is ready. They have a variety of options all around the concept of tacos (obviously). Their chips and salsa are amazing and frankly any of their tacos or bowls are just as delicious as can be!! My favorites are the smoked potato taco and the pinto bean taco which come as either a street taco (corn tortilla) or regular taco (flour tortilla). I can usually eat at least 3 but probably should settle for two! My husband says they are addictive and that you can't eat just one! We love their flavors and the crunch on the potato tacos, as well as the spicy flavor of the crema. I can't get enough of this stuff and now they have a location close to our favorite town...ideal! Their hours are Friday through Sunday 11-3 so make sure you don't miss them, but they are well worth the planning to go every day. Delicious!! read more

These tacos genuinely exceeded my expectations, even though I already expected them to be fantastic based on the great reviews I read before coming in! I got the smoked potato tacos and they were genuinely the best tacos I've ever had. My husband got a chorizo Street taco, a pork chorizo taco, and a smoked chicken taco- he absolutely loved them as well. It was very cool how it was set up, you walk up to a counter and order, they give you a buzzer and you go sit at a table of your choice. When the buzzer goes off you go up and grab your food and enjoy. Our food came out very quickly and it was so flavorful. Everything was very flavorful. They have some unique twists on some of their food. Their salsa and chips were top notch too. The shrimp taco looked awesome, but sort of fell apart on the first bite and ended up being a messy effort of awkwardly eating the shrimp with my hands. I was very skeptical getting street tacos knowing there aren't many Mexicans in Boyne and I was more skeptical when I saw they didn't serve steak. But I realized if you can't do it right don't put it on the menu... And what they had on the menu was great. The workers are a hipster mushroom head kind of crew that has built a wonderful atmosphere with bags/horseshoe and serves some of the best food I've had in the area and we've been coming up for 10 years. They also serve beer. I would give this 4.3/5 stars but since it's relative to this area it's for sure a 5/5 worth the visit!!
