I'm sure that there are lots of good places in HRM to get a nice loaf of French bread and almond…read morecroissant, but I can't say that this is one of them. My experience: - Baguette: Bought a large loaf on Saturday morning. By Tuesday morning, it had developed some mouldy spots. Never had this happen before in three days, with "freshly baked" bread, either from bakeries or homemade. - Almond croissant: The pastry is not terribly flaky, and the almond paste flavour was OK, but was dense and really "smooshed" together. Don't know how to better describe it then to say that it was nowhere near the best almond croissants I've had. Now, as an aside, here's an irksome incident: There were a couple of people lined up on the right-hand side being served by the main clerk (owner?). Since I had come in on the left, I realised that I should join the proper line-up. The clerk finished serving them, then promptly turned away and ignored me and an elderly woman in front of me. She served a young white couple who had just arrived on the left-hand side. She was super-friendly with them, even offering them a free sample. Didn't say boo to us. Then it was as if she noticed us two on this side, and came to serve the elderly lady. No free sample for her. I guess it's too bad we weren't young or white? Another employee came over from behind the counter to serve me, and he was very friendly, so at at least he made up for the odd behaviour of that woman. So that was interesting, and even if it weren't for that peculiar turn of events, I wouldn't patronize them again because of the bread and croissant. Plenty of other good bakery options at the Seaport market.

She was selling all kinds delicious looking breads, pastries, and other baked goods. We just wanted a quick snack before heading onto Peggy's Cove. I bought a Blueberry Danish. It was packed with blueberries, and it tasted yummy!! My wife bought some sort of Almond twistie baked good. Don't know what the name was, but it tasted very good too. When we return to Halifax, Nova Scotia....I absolutely will return here. I believe they have their own bakery somewhere in town so I will be searching for it upon our return!!

Gateaux Rose, I want to give you 5 stars yo, you're everything I like in a consumable product:…read morelocal, up and coming, and you make cupcakes! So, here's the deal with Gateaux Rose as far as I can gather: They are a new bakery in Halifax currently operating without a shop front HOWEVER they have a kick ass website where you can see all sorts of details pertaining to their own unique cake menu (past work), pricing and my favorite: recipes! Having stumbled upon the Gateaux Rose website a couple days ago (and with a trip to see the extended familia in my very close future) I decided to venture a go at one of their recipes, and more specifically: Thanksgiving browned butter sweet potato cupcakes with whipped cream cloud frosting. Bitting off more than I can chew you say? You might be right... Gateaux Rose, I could have really used a 'yield' amount. ie- this recipe will make so many friggin cupcakes that you will run out of little 'cake tins to cook them in and will be flogging cupcakes at random strangers in the hopes of keeping your weight to within 10 lbs of whatever you weighed p.c.e. (pre-cupcake endeavor) Really... i'm headed to see family and this is still an obscene number of cupcakes to have around even dispersed amongst a group. Come to think of it, there's one more detail that would have been really relevant: a bake temperature and bake time? Assume this detail didn't quite make it onto the website but that's ok becccaauuuseee... THESE CUPCAKES ARE AMAZING!!! My icing didn't turn out as pretty as yours G.R. folk but I appreciated your little tips about how to tell when my sugar was done cookin' and such: 'it'll look like a gummy ball at the bottom of a cup of water' was surprisingly accurate. Gateaux Rose does all sorts of speciality orders whether it be a birthday, baby shower or any other celebration this is definitely the new spot in town to try out! The thing I liked a lot about the orders pictured on the website was that they were all unique and individual and seemed to have been created with a specific person in mind. ie- no stock 'this is how we do a wedding cake' sorta stuff. The folks at G.R. can also be found some Saturday's (check their website) at the Brewery Market! I really love your online recipes too G.R. but a simplified version of some things would be useful for those of us that don't tend to have: cream of tartar and honeyed dates hanging around. Great cupcakes! Can't wait to try a market morsel of your own baking!

They made me a batch of cupcakes that really stole the show at my family's Christmas dinner. Turkey? Great. Veggies? Tasty. But then I produced a tray of cupcakes FILLED WITH SALTED CARAMEL and topped with a citrus mousse. Holy Cats! Gateaux Rose is also different because the ladies who make the goodies are NSCAD grads. Their cupcakes look as good as they taste, with intricate designs and wee marzipan accessories. Basically, I'm in love with these cupcakes and want to marry them and have a life-long, fulfilling relationship. We'd be so happy together!
