As a long-time bird owner, I cannot stress enough the importance of REGULAR PROFESSIONAL grooming. Especillay the cutting of wing feathers. (Note: After having a Senegal for 12 years . . . we let him fly around the house sometimes). In one winter day . . . as my wife was coming in the front door, he flew over her head . . . and with the storm door not fully closed . . . out he went. That was the last time we saw him! Devastating! So besides clipping nails and beaks . . . it is essential to make sure they cannot fly (only glide) by regularly having their wing feathers cut back as well. I reached out to BirdsByUs for help finding the best parrot to fit our family. Shawn answered my calls promptly and he was incredibly helpful. He took the time to really talk to me about what we were looking for and answer all of my questions! We went to visit and found everything to be extremely clean and the birds well taken care of. He spent a lot of time with us while we got to know our potential parrot and answered all of my 10yr old son's questions too! I think it is unfair to readers as well as business owners to have same reviews for the same incidents by just using a different ID. For example, our visit to get our adorable baby cockatiel was very pleasant and informative thanks to breeder Shawn. We had 5 members and 6 other friends visiting us this weekend will love our breeder hand picked baby bird. Even I do think this breeder deserves many 5 stars, don't think it's fair to have multiple ratings for one incident. At first the owner was nice, but he and his partner were not wearing masks. We were meeting inside a small outdoor shed like structure where we saw the birds and the lack of masks made us very uncomfortable. We gave him a deposit for a baby cockatiel which we would pick out after a few weeks when the few babies he had would be more mature. Two weeks later we picked out one of the and for about three weeks the breeder sent us pictures and seemed engaged, but after that he became very unaccommodating and nonresponsive and stopped sending us pictures and when we wanted to come to see the bird, he denied the visits. For the next few weeks, he told us he was having parties all weekend and became very difficult to deal with. We called one week in advance of the day we scheduled to pick up the bird to tell him the day we would come, and he acted surprised that we were coming and made the pickup process much more difficult as we had to wait most of the day for him to be ready for us. We picked up the bird late Saturday and brought him straight home. By Sunday we saw that the bird was sneezing. The next day, Monday, we took the bird to a veterinary hospital where he was seen by an avian vet who said the bird had an upper respiratory infection and gave us antibiotics and decongestants which we administered at home. We called the breeder who acknowledged that it was not good and looked to find fault with the situation in our home. By, Wednesday, he was much worse, and we took him back to the hospital and they admitted him, but by Thursday the bird had passed away. We were heartbroken and also spent a small fortune trying to save this adorable little bird. We called the breeder, to let him know, the reaction was not comforting and there was empathy, no offer to refund money or provide another bird, nor did we ask because we did not want another bird from this breeder anyway; we do not feel he is professional and can be trusted. We strongly recommend that no one purchasing any bird from this breeder. He doesn't really care about the customer and would not trust that you would receive a healthy bird.. read more
