We all know what Temp Agencies are like. Wash, rinse, repeat, next. For the hopeful job seekers, you most likely got suckered into a meeting, spending an extensive amount of time trying to fill out the paper work, watch a video, and meet someone that most likely will not remember your name once you're out the door in 15 mintues. Nothing more than a body to fill a cold seat at best. That's what it was like at so many of the other places. Wouldn't it be nice, for once, to be heard, understood, and actually placed with a good company that really compliments your "know-how" and over-all style of work flow and ethics? That's what I got from Bishop & Company. You think that I would waste my time writing fluff when they could get someone from a marketing team to do it? Think again and read on. . . Here's me in a nutshell: Lived in the mainland, worked in some big name places that really shaped and molded me professionally. Came back home to O'ahu a few years ago and encountered some really less than par work places. After that, I ate my humble pie and went from working in Technology to something a little more sweaty (no complaints about manual labor, though -- I loved it, but man, Hawai'i is not cheap). Well, after a while, it was time to move on and try again in my chosen field. Like a lot of job seekers, I went to Craigslist. I remember replying to a want ad for some entry level generic work. Sent an email with resume attached, and gave it no other thought. Fast forward: I get a call from Deb at Bishop & Co. explaining to me that she was forwarded my email from someone else in her company. The person that I initially sent my email to, actually read my resume, and thought my skills matched a position that Deb was recruiting for and I'd be a good fit. What that above paragraph should tell you about Bishop & Co. is this: - There's great communication between staff members - They really are reviewing everything that's sent to them - They're not using people as seat warmers and actually think about your skill sets - They care about what they're doing for people that are looking for work and want to place you with employers that fit you. Here's what you can expect from the brand "X" temps: You get a call (if they even call), from a recruiter/ staffing agent, the conversation reads like a grocery list: - Intro - Job description - Wage - Availability - Schedule appointment for: Wash, rinse, repeat. . . My initial phone conversation with Deb from Bishop & Company: - Intro - Treated me like a human being: open, honest, compassionate, and understanding. - Real conversation that also included real information on how she found me, why she contacted me, and what she wants to help me with. - Provide a plan and how she'll move the ball forward - Etc. etc. etc. Anyway, you get it. As of now, I'm 6 months employed with a great company doing work that I really enjoy -- all because of Bishop & Company. (Disney couldn't write and produce a movie with a happier ending.) The sad thing, "Sandy" from Alt- brand "X"-res Staffing guys are stil calling me to fill a position after informing them that I am already employed and requesting that they remove me from their list. TWICE. (Get it together guys.) That said; Bishop & Co. definitely changed my perception, and raised the bar in my expectations of an agency that integrates people with organizations looking to hire. I worked with a great person that really took the time to understand where I was coming from. She looked at my strengths, and really listened to what it was that I said. I feel that we developed great rapport, and if she wasn't in my corner, coaching me and providing feedback and support, I would probably be in a much different place. If I'm ever back on the job market, (knock on wood), Deb would be the first person I'd contact, hands down. Other than the jobs I've held at my college on the mainland during the school year, Bishop & Co. is the agency I've worked with exclusively over the last 4 years during my summer and winter breaks. I applied with Bishop right after I graduated high school in 2008, and they were by far the best agency I interviewed with (I've interviewed/applied with all the rest). Tahnee interviewed me 4 years ago and submitted me for a position on the spot. A few days later I was working full-time in a professional setting. Fast forward to today and I've had many opportunities through Bishop and I've worked an array of different assignments. Admittedly, not every assignment is exciting or particularly rewarding, but my experience with Bishop has always remained a positive one. If there are any issues or problems, they'll listen to your concern and do their best to address it. For example, I was in a position a couple years ago that I was not particularly enjoying because I didn't feel the client was utilizing my time and ability as effectively as they could have. After calling my staffing specialist Amber and sharing my concerns, she actually paid a visit to the client and expressed my thoughts to them... needless to say, the situation improved and the client allowed me to take on greater responsibilities and duties. At Bishop & Co., I actually feel like I'm a part of the team. They provide a positive and respectful atmosphere that, quite frankly, I haven't yet seen from other agencies that I've interviewed with. A couple summers ago, my specialist Amber actually sent me a nice thank you card, which was a nice gesture that certainly did not go unnoticed. Annette, their payroll specialist, has greeted me at the office since I interviewed 4 years ago, and I'm almost disappointed I don't have a reason to drop by the office since I now have direct deposit. Perhaps I'll stop by the office to visit my current staffing specialist Tanya, who I've never actually had the pleasure of meeting in person-- Tanya has been a great asset this summer in securing long-term employment for me while I'm home for the next several months. In conclusion-- Bishop & Co. is a great agency to work for and with. When you interview with them, they'll actually give you a call back. Temporary assignments are also a great way to gain a wide variety of work experiences, and to gain insight into many different industries in Hawai'i. I've worked in the banking, hotel, nonprofit, medical, and business fields, and they've all enriched my career explorations and complemented my college education. First off I would like to say that when it comes to staffing agencies, this one was by far more proactive in helping me find employment that suited my needs than any of the others I've tried here in Hawaii. When I first began my employment search, I registered with several staffing agencies. I rarely would here from them, even when calling in weekly like most requested I do. This one was the best at contacting me with potential job opportunities, and ones that actually interested me at that. I really feel they were great at knowing the type of work that I was looking for. Bishop & Company was literally the only agency that would contact me with work and propose an offer that was within my salary range. All of the other agencies would always start below, and most times would never even present me with anything that was at least my minimum requirement. That in and of itself let me know that Bishop & Company was truly looking out for my best interests, and was not just trying to make as much as they could off of my skill set. I absolutely loved the staff! I specifically worked with Ashley and Vanessa, and they were not only professional, skillful, and courteous, they were also personable, attentive, and very good at what they do. Trust me, this is not a commonality among staffing agency specialists. They made me feel like I was getting somewhere, and it proved to be true. I now work as a full-time permanent employee at a Forbes top-rated company that I was placed in through them. I started off as a temp, and they wanted to hire me on permanent. I am so thankful for having discovered this agency! All in all, I sincerely believe this is the best staffing agency on the Island. They are so great that I felt that I just had to come on here and rate them, and I'm really not that big of a rater, lol. I am writing this review as a previous Bishop and Company temp. I became a permanent employee of the bank last year and I am so grateful for the opportunity they gave me (an opportunity that I would not have had on my own). In all honest, it was hard work. Not going to lie. But it paid off in the end. Ashley Crisp was my recruiter and I feel as though she helped set me up to be successful here. She gave me honest and tough advice when I needed it. Otherwise I don't think I would have landed this job or the salary it came with. I'm sure she does this kind of thing everyday but for me it meant alot. I am not usually one for voicing public opinions but after reading some of these reviews, I couldn't help it and I want to try to set the record straight (based on my own experience and asking questions) with two very important points. #1- Bishop is not going to have a job for everyone. To think that they will be able to find a job for every single person who applies is ridiculous. So if you are one of those people on here complaining that they weren't able to get you a job then you are an idiot. It's unrealistic. They have to try to find the best person for the job. It may not be you. Don't be offended, it's not personal. #2- They do this all for free. You don't pay them anything! So acting like they owe you something is, again, ridiculous. You spend a couple hours total taking their testing (which isn't bad) and maybe 45 minutes in their office interviewing. So other than your time it really does cost you nothing. I've worked with other agencies who don't tell you what the assignment is, what the pay is, or what you will be doing on assignment and they tell you to go and "try" out the position. This has never worked out good for me and I could tell it makes the office I'm working for upset too. If you need help finding a good job and want to get to work right away, call them! read more

I'm very fortunate one of my former supervisors suggested applying with Bishop & Co. Before working with the company, I had been working at one staffing agency and applied with a second staffing agency (which I shall refer to as AR) to increase my chances of getting more temp assignments. I remember applying with AR, a much bigger agency than the first one and Bishop & Co., and contacted my staffing agent there about any available assignments for me. I asked her opinion on applying with other staffing agencies too. She replied that she had nothing to offer me and wished me luck in finding a job with the other agencies. At that point, I regretted applying with that company because my agent made me feel discouraged and didn't even offer to try her best to find something for me. That was the first time I encountered a company that made me feel like I'd never be contacted by them to work any assignments. Then, life got a lot better when I applied with Bishop & Co. I really enjoyed working with Bishop & Company because they were able to set me up with an assignment quickly after I signed on with them. Accepting that assignment surprisingly landed me a permanent position with our client's company and this wasn't even a temp-to-hire assignment. Additionally, the staff are very friendly and always willing to help with your needs. Tanya was my staffing agent and I had a good feeling our working relationship would be successful the first time I met her. She helped me out with any questions I had, returned my calls and emails promptly, and treated me with respect. Although Bishop & Company is a small company, the staff have big hearts and care about their employees. This is what made me feel like a valued employee. Way back in April that's when I was in a job fair and I got the opportunity to meet Christina Gillespie Recruiter of Bishop & Co. She was very nice and approachable when I asked her if there's a call center job open for this company and she said there is. Bishop & Company is AMAZING!!!! The absolute BEST employment agency/recruiting firm in Hawai'i!! After working with another agency for approx. 6 months and having no assignments and minimal communication, I contacted B&Co and the team immediately went to work. My ultimate goal with B&Co was a permanent, full-time position, but I was open to temp positions in the meantime. For the first week, they called me daily with new opportunities and status updates and by the second week they placed me with a client in a full-time, temp position. Most often than not, it is who you know (especially in Hawaii) that greatly increases your chances of job acquisition. The reason being that an employer is more inclined to hire someone that is vouched for. It's like, "A friend of yours is a friend of mine," type of mechanic and a staffing agency is your next best thing. I was at a disadvantage and didn't have many connections so working with Bishop & Company Inc. worked out real well for me. They found me a direct hire job with a great company. They thoroughly assess your career goals, what kind of work you want to do, and your skill sets in order to find the best fit for you. I'm actually really surprised by all of the negative reviews?! I'm not sure what went wrong with everyone else but the communication was great for me! I think a lot of people get upset because with their '3 months' of experience at McDonalds or whatever they're expecting Bishop & Company to some how wave their magic wand and get them a full-time job with awesome pay. It doesn't work that way. They have to find someone who they feel is best for the job and believe it or not, sometimes it's not you. All in all, I'm so happy with my experience with Bishop & Company.
