I went to meet with certain recruiters at HiEmployment before. I found them decent. I did like meeting Angela Parra. I thought she was fabulous. Even though nothing came to be, she gets a star. I liked Vanessa Perez. She spoke about my potential as a candidate. But she left after one year or so. She gets a star. When I spoke with Barbara Guss, she said she will contact a law firm in Hawaii on my behalf. But she called me two months after the fact. I already got a job on my own. Aside from those ladies, I rarely get calls from them. Even if I did, a recruiter from the education section referred me to a remote part of the island. I tell them again and again that I don't have a car. They don't listen. In certain cases, I felt like they set me up for failure. I felt like I wasted my time with them. Pass. read more

I've been working at HiEmployment at the Hawaii Convention Center since 2019, it's a great place to work at, the staff and management are great as well! I mainly work in food and beverage, however, HiEmployment has other departments they'll ask you to work as needed, and I'm happy to oblige when needed! All in all HiEmployment is an excellent company to work for and the pay is great as well, mahalo to the owner Sean Knox as well as he's a great and stand up guy, and often times rolls up his sleeve and works special events with his underlings as well! Never heard of this agency before but out of the blue I was contacted by Barbara Guss for a position, but later learned the position had been offered and filled weeks before my interview with HiEmployment. Her on island team member of John Kaiwi must have been out of the loop, because I was told during my interview a decision would be made in a couple days, but then I found out who the successful applicant was, and he'd been hired more than two weeks prior to my interview! HiEmployment clearly does not have their act together because when confronted with these facts, Guss repeatedly deflected by suggesting I was not a good fit for the position, instead of admitting to whatever sequence of errors lead up to this misunderstanding. That was neither here nor there. A waste of everyone's time. Bottom line, UNPROFESSIONAL. read more

I was very skeptical about using a temp agency for the preschool that I am the director of. One time, for a mandatory parent meeting I thought i would try the agency out. ( in my mind, i thought, what could go wrong in two hours) To my very pleasant surprise I found myself on the receiving end of compliments from the parents about the wonderful teacher. Inspired by the positive feedback, I thought I would try hiemployment again, this time for a lead teacher who was out for a week. I walked into work and saw the sub surrounded by happy children, enjoying a song she was teaching them. I am now a regular user of hiemployment and i can say that they work so hard to fill vacancies, often with very short notice. How does this place have 5 stars? I went in with such high hopes and I was thoroughly disappointed. I have never worked with a staffing agency before and I have heard horror stories about it, but I thought I would give it a shot. I was working at a job I hated and I wasn't having much luck on my own. Met with Rufel who seemed super involved and dedicated to helping me find a job. She seemed to listen to what I wanted at first, but then set me up for an interview at a place that was out of the parameters I had told her. I declined the interview and asked her to stick within the parameters. I was still working while job hunting and she knew that, yet she would call me several times while I was working. I had so many voicemails from her asking if I got her last message. It felt like an overbearing boyfriend or something. So I would call her back and she would tell me about a great job opening and would claim to submit my application for it, but I would never hear anything further. Every time she called me, it was always about submitting an application to a different place, but never a follow up on previous applications. When I asked about it, she always had to "check up on it" and would have to get back to me later. At one point, she said she found me something perfect and asked me to do a phone interview. I let her know that I needed to be at work by a certain time and she assured me that it would be ok and to just wait because I would get a call within 30 minutes. I waited over an hour and was almost late to work. When I tried calling her on my way to work, all I got was her voicemail. I gave up at that point and said screw this place. Then after no contact for awhile, I get an email out of the blue saying that she will no longer be working for HI Employment. Go figure. No wonder she didn't care about finding me a job. I got another email from Ann (her supervisor) about job opportunities, but I had already decided to move with my husband to Washington so I let her know. She promised to remove me from her contact list. Flash forward 2 months and I get an email again, this time from a different person. I informed her that I moved and was told I would be removed from the list and she promised that this time I was permanently removed. Flash forward another 2 months and I get yet another email from yet another different person. I again told her to remove me and got no response whatsoever. Hopefully that means I've been permanently removed. We'll see what happens in another 2 months. read more

Barbara set up an appointment with me right away and had me take their assessment. She then met me after to that to talk about what I was looking for and what my goals were. She stayed into touch with me regularly until she found me a position. In January of 2011 I was placed into a temporary position which then turned into my regular full-time job. Since then I have been promoted. I am very happy with my current job. The experience I had with Hi-Employment was 10 times better than the other staffing agencies I tried to work with. If I could give this company a 0, I would. They are unprofessional and will talk about you when your not around. They don't communicate to each other and gave me wrong information about orientation. Mind you I parked in down town and it's not cheap. I'm sitting in the lobby for orientation and mind you nobody mentioned it starts at 9. I am here at 7:45 because I was told it started at 8:00. Darcy Reformina is talking loud to another agent about a email I sent here stating that I can't work on specific dates. The agent that she is talking to, tells her to shh.. she's in the lobby. They continue their conversation in a lower tone so I wouldn't be able to hear and they both walked out the office. Both of the agents couldn't even look at me. At that moment I felt embarrassed and upset. It is unprofessional to talk so loud about a email I sent you and if you had a issue with the times I said I can't work then she should of just emailed me back. I was so hurt and embarrassed because your sitting here talking about me. What if I wasn't in the office, the conversation would of just continued. The job she was talking about wasn't even what I signed up for to begin with. It was a pool attendant and I am looking for substitute teacher position. I was taking the opportunity because I needed money and she needed a worker. Plus my background check would of took about 2 weeks. We were both helping each other out.
