But what I DO have a problem with is people having stores that cater to the public but don't at least have an English speaking person on site. And I have an EXTRA problem with people hanging up in my face. I called THREE Indian grocery stores just KNOWING that they speak English (cause most Indians I've met do), and I was hung up on twice...and the last chick put the phone down so I could listen to her argument with a customer...probably in hopes I'd hang up. REALLY, LIFE!? WHAT. THE. F-C-U-U-K-!-!-? So my last hope for buying incense before throwing in the towel and taking it to Amazon was to call Himalaya Grocers. THANK YOU, JESUS! They don't have all the variety that I'm used to regarding incense, but they had the basics. Nag Champa...you my only friend! Plus they had this rather unique Lord Buddha un named scent. I love that, too. Don't want to get your feelings hurt by the dial tone? Himalaya Grocers is where it's at! (And I'll be back next time to shop the grocery section)

This last visit was due to shortage of Lentil and dates. I found out that the owner has opened another location on Barker Cypress and Hwy290. As previously mentioned, I needed 2 specific kinds of Lentils: Masoor and Malka Masoor. I didn't need to go any further than Himalaya. Got both items 4lbs each. While strolling through the store, I started grabbing extra items: Zeera (cumin), Dhaniya (Coriander), Haldi (Turmeric), red chilli powder, mustard seeds, Kalonji, Fenugreek, Achar (indian spice dip), and a few more Indian grocery items. I was able to complete my spontaneous extended grocery list. Being the month of Ramadan, I also needed dates and they had a solid collection. Btw, they also usually have samosas at the counter which are made fresh daily. Overall the service is great. They have this one chick who runs the store daily and is pretty cordial and helpful to customers. I have run into the owner a few times and he is very polite and courteous. Himalaya is a tad less expensive than other competitors and you can find a wide range of authentic Indian grocery and snack items which are fresh and not outdated. Make sure to check out their frozen ice cream section and the Haldi Ram snack item section.

I talk to the guy at the counter for quite a bit. Super nice guy, come to find out he is from Russia and he likes to mix martial arts just as much as I do. He used to train i used to train as well. They have so many options when it comes to food, they have chicken skewers, they have imported desserts, they have nuts sealed in the bag, they have several different teas, I mean they literally have everything. I think next time I go grocery shopping I will go grocery shopping here. All of their meat is very good. I am surprised I lived in North West champions for eight years and I finally stopped in. I should have stopped in a long time ago. You can really find some cool stuff that you will not find At your regular grocery store.

Another freezer contains frozen foods and sweets. We went in looking for Ruhu fish, which they had. The price was $6 per pound and the total came out to be $30. We also bought chanachur - extremely spicy trail mix, which I cannot seem to find anywhere. The person working there was nice and picked out a good fish. He also cut and cleaned it for us to the right size. The only complaint is that the shop was not too clean.

Fresh nuts, dates, raisins, cheeses are available for bulk. Traditional Persian grocery items are stocked and always fresh. A large selection of Persian DVDs including movies and popular music artists. Argiles are priced well and they have everything you need to go home with including a nice variety of flavored tobacco and hoses amongst other smoking accessories. My favorite part of Jordan is the sweets, go and splurge, Jordan is right next to Bijan in the same shopping plaza.

I was looking at a few places like HEB and Kroger…read morefor any za'atar, I needed some quick and didn't want to drive way down to Phoenicia but luckily I discovered a tasty Jordanian version here featuring thyme. They have nearly all the types of middle eastern spices plus some North African and Far East spices. It's mostly processed stuff, like almost all things are in boxes/bags, but there were obviously some fresh halal meats and fresh herbs, veggies too in the back. There were a bunch of boxed spice mixes too for kabobs etc. And lots of nice drinks, I'm a sucker for medio litro cokes, you know, the big size, and they have them real cold here! The guys working here were super nice and helped me immediately find that za'atar after I gave up looking (because there are so many aisles of spices). Super cool to have access to a Halal grocer so close to home, I feel ashamed I haven't been in here before. Planning on coming here often now!
