I think the place changed owners. Prices might be slightly higher but there are no other Asian stores anywhere around here. They have meat, whole chickens, fish veggies Vietnamese coffee, sticky rice everything that you might need for Asian meals. I would say that the snack selection isnt as robust as the big Asian stores but they do have a ton of different noodles. Rated it a 5 for convenience and impressive selection for such a small store. read more

After searching for the closest Asian Market, I discovered I'd been passing this spot for years. I guess it's one of those things you don't notice until you need it. My newest crave for Ramen has caused me to attempt preparing it at home, but I was using the noodles from the "ramen noodles' package. I know that's lame, but I had to make-do with what I had in order to overcome my craving. So, after discovering Dong Khanh, I decided to take me a little field trip to see what I could find. As soon as i walked into the store I ran right into them. Ok, let me be honest. I was able to find them so fast because I'm clearly good at looking pictures. I am grateful for the picture of ramen being featured on the front of the package of noodles. I had no doubt that I had found gold!!! Now, I decided to take a little stroll around the store to see what else is popping. They have a little variety of things. I noticed a little frozen section with seafood, etc. Then I walked up on a mini produce section. Hmmm, not bad! Not bad! Since I'm reviewing this place, I must mention that there's a thick, "seafoody", fishy smell. I personally didn't have a problem with it because I think it played in to the authenticity of the market. Hey, that's just my opinion. I mentioned it because I feel it's an important feature that someone else might want to be aware of. Lastly, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked up on the CAFE DU MONDE coffee almost $2 less than it is in the other stores. The answer is YES, I grabbed it. The people here are extremely friendly. The home made egg rolls in the freezer are the best by far you will find in this area. It is very nice to have a Vietnamese food store in this area with such nice people. Love this place. read more

When you need Vietnamese/Asian ingredients you can't find in HEB/krogers 'Asian/international' aisle This market might be your luck. Even better they make xa-xiu (Chinese BBQ) banh cuon with cha (rice sheets with Vietnamese cold cut) banh bao (egg prom steam buns) nice to know when I'm craving Vietnamese dishes I can find some of it here! Store isn't big. The meat & produce department doesn't look too bad. read more

I did make this my go to spot to get quick last minute items since it is the closest to me. No more!! I pulled up at 7:55 and they do not close until 8! There were still ppl in there getting last min things and checking out. The young guy shoo'd me away saying they were closed. He was rude. All I wanted some damn lemongrass and a bag of rice. Seeing as they are a small store in the area they are in, they would want to accommodate the customers they do get. I'm sure they don't get that much customers like 99 ranch or the stores on Bellaire. So I will not be spending anymore of my money there! read more

Yay! Finally a Asian/Vietnamese grocery store in Katy area! It's a small store but they have more of the essentials for Vietnamese cooking. I am glad I don't have to go to Bellaire if I need a few ingredients for my Vietnamese cooking days. The owner is a nice lady who speaks Vietnamese as well as Cantonese from the dialect I heard. They have a small seafood and meat department in the back of the store. The prices are slightly more then things at HK but hey the convenience of not driving to SW is worth the little more cost on some items. read more

This is a small Asian supermarket, but it is far from the ideal Asian supermarket. I bought banh cuon at the register and it was spoiled. It tasted so bad, as if it was made days before. That was my last time buying that from the store. Also, make sure the price on the shelf is the price you pay / make sure the total correct. They overcharged my card since it's manual entry into the credit card system. Not a trustworthy grocery store. read more

Been going here for years. The old owner weren't perfect but at least they are polite to their customers. The new owners don't really care. They just want your money. I tried to take an unopened item back after buying yesterday and they basically cursed at me under their breath while giving me back my money. read more

Desperation led us here. The cashier (guy with a goatee/unshaven) was very rude. Prices aren't labeled and when we asked him what the prices were. He said in a very curt manner, it's $2.99 can't you see on the register? What the h**l? For a small sized Asian grocery store with average prices, wouldn't the owner and its employees want to provide better customer service? I'm never coming back here. My little suburbia is all growned up! Within the recent years, my part of the 'burbs has really started to flourish with more Asian businesses popping up left and right. Because of that, I've been making less and less trips down to Bellaire...which is kind of bittersweet, saving tons on gas but missing out on all the cheap eats...is it really worth it? :P I've been to this market a handful of times since it opened late last year, just to pick up a couple of ingredients here and there that I probably forgot to buy down in Chinatown. It's much closer to home and it's really easy to get in and out and back home to finish the dish I was most likely in the middle of making. It's a tiny supermarket, more like a convenience store. Two HEB aisles wide, but you know Asians, we are all about efficiency. Why be two aisles, when it can be FOUR. It's dirty, crowded and everything is everywhere -- feels just like the motherland. Don't be afraid to bump elbows and don't expect to get anywhere with a cart, because those little Vietnamese middle aged women don't play no games, yo. Dong Khanh has all the essentials plus more, the selection is pretty surprising, and actually fresh. My mom and I both think they have the freshest cuts of meats, much better than HK supermarket. I was surprised they actually cut beef bones right in front of you and let you pick out the bone you want. HK sells those precut and prepackaged in bags. The produce is also impressive. I saw a beautiful box of bittermelon come out from the backroom and old ladies swarmed around it, that's always a good sign. They have a variety of herbs, leafy vegetables like rau muong, different kinds of melons, bean sprouts(!) and my favorite, Japanese sweet potato. Up front they have fruits, like rambutan, mangoes, young coconuts, papaya, guavas and more. They also have bags of rice, the brands that my mom loves to buy. Near the registers they sell snacks and fresh made foods like cha lua, banh bao, che, nem chua, banh it, fried tofu, green soy bean milk, etc. Sometimes they sell Asian sponge cakes, which I have yet to buy, but really want to. I love lightly sweet, airy cakes. Mmmmm. Besides those highlights, they have all the standard noodles, sauces, condiments, seasonings and other ingredients you need to make any basic Asian dish. However if you are making something a little more complicated or need a specific brand, you might have to head elsewhere. Another downside is how disorganized everything is, the pho noodles are under the canned drinks, next to the soft tofu from san san and the cartons of quail eggs. Boxes of items are just hanging out on the floor willy nilly, like a random box of fresh pig ears out near the housewares and the bittermelon was hanging out near the canned goods. There's really no rhyme or reason to why things are where they are, but I can deal. They speak decent English, so no need to worry about any language barriers if you aren't Vietnamese. My Vietnamese is terrible, so I can definitely vouch for that. The prices can be a hit or miss sometimes, but for the most part they aren't that far off from HK supermarket's prices, if not the same. Fun fact, I'm pretty sure I saw snail facial cream behind the registers near the other cosmetics and random items. You know, that weird Korean beauty trend, where you put snail slime on your face...That must be why all Asians look so young. The things you find in Asian supermarkets. read more

She then stated I don't know. I asked can I please speak with someone who understands English a little better...she then proceeded to hang up in my face. How rude! read more

I'm not sure about all of the other reviews. I live right across the street from this market. I was so excited to go check it out! My (teenage) son and I went in to grab some ingredients to make homemade ramen. While the prices are great, the store is extremely cramped and slightly disheveled. I appreciate that they are new and still getting things sorted. I also understand that this is NOT HEB/Whole Foods/etc. The staff didn't even acknowledge us. The cashier hardly even spoke. He only spoke to use because we asked a question about the available dried meat. I live right across the street and haven't been back. I only gave it three stars due to the prices and that it might do in a pinch if I don't want to drive farther. read more

My first time in Houston and was dying to find an Asian market to try and re-create some of my mom's Thai dishes. I have never felt more uncomfortable in my life. First off, this is primarily a Vietnamese grocery store with Vietnamese owners and employees. I am half Thai and half white/Caucasian. Oh, and also, not petite like "typical" Asians, I am 5'10". I stick out like a sore thumb in this place. When I ask the "gentleman" behind the meat counter for ox tails (my mother recommends them for her homemade Thai soup) he acts as though he cannot understand me. Maybe, he really didn't. He calls on the guy unloading their delivery truck to interpret for me. I ask him and he pulls out two entire tails from the freezer and tells me they will cut it for me. I only need four to six pieces. Normally, you will find ox tails cut up into round sections (picture a donut) and six pieces in a package. The tails get weighed and I am told it will be $25.62. I respectfully decline because I only need a few and assumed I could get what I requested. Six pieces at the most, not two tails. Then, I asked if they had any meat with bone-in to use to flavor soup with and was told that no, they do not. When I go to check out, the completely 100% Vietnamese woman in front of me has a bag of what I just asked for. And the price was only $6.99! I could not believe it. I tried to convince myself *maybe* it was a language barrier, misunderstanding, miscommunication...that is why I went ahead and paid for the Thai ingredients I needed. I have been shopped at here for a long time but this time was really disappointed me. The lady works at Meat section was so rude that I have never seen anybody treat their customers like that. My mom was asking her and she didn't even look at my mom and just gave back a tough answer. When my mom told a Mexican guy to cut the ribs ( I do not know what kind of meat) that lady raised her voice yelled at the guy that he cut it not in proper way and even yelled at my mom that it not for sell due to she cannot cut it too small. That almost pissed me off because of poor customer service. I would feel more comfortable if she told us in a nice voice. I have been visited to another market and no one have the same expression like her. She treats the customer like she doesn't care. I would go to the CA MAU Market rather than here even though their price is little higher but I like their service. Will be last visit there thou. read more
