It had been many years since my last visit to Kitchen Conservatory, we had gone to the previous…read morelocation and had an average time but after a decade or so I decided it was time to try again. Wrong. There were two simultaneous pasta classes going. Our group seemed to have no clear direction. There were two pasta rollers and each kept malfunctioning with the handles falling off. It was at this point one couple left. It only went downhill from there. My sister kept saying we should just leave but I wanted to learn how to make pasta! And I paid a lot for this class so i was going to learn! But I did not. The revolt began and people just began cooking on their own (which in the end turned out quite well!!) just so we could eat at some point. We could hear the other class drinking wine and sitting down to eat, and our lasagna wasn't even in the oven yet. Another ominous sign. Our chef was very kind but it was clear he was not ready for this. It was my second and last visit to the KC, I walked away with no additional skills. Waste of 3.5 hours (though the class was scheduled for only 2.5) and 65 bucks.

The class wasn't exactly a cooking class but the chef gave us recipes and further demonstration when questions came up. Every dish was delicious. The store part of the place has pot, pans, kitchen gadgets, and some gourmet food items. I'm giving it a 4 because their items are on the pricier side.

Cost is $12 includes tax. Tip is extra. The chefs rotate as the servers. Service is a work in progress so as long as you're prepared for that you will have a great time. The food is soooo delicious. Typically there are two apps, four entrees, two sides, and two desserts. You select one of each. Iced tea or soda also is included. I had the smoked trout spinach salad. The red beets were the best and the vinegarette was tasty. Slightly sweet. The smoked trout was ok, more spices would've been nice. The bean soup looked good and the reviews were positive. The entrees included prosciutto wrapped monkfish, spinach and ricotta ravioli, wiener snitzel, and brat with sauerkraut. I got the brat and it was great with Grilled butter bread. The potato salad was amazing. Included bacon, slightly warm, and sauerkraut flavor. The Brussel sprouts were grilled and maybe the best item in the meal. I wanted more! For dessert I selected the red wine poached pear with marscapone cream. It was good. Slightly sweet. The other option was tiramisu which was served in a wine glass and looked great! They rotate the menu every three weeks. Next is Asian! I think reservations are required and they only serve wed and thur. Note it takes about 1.5 hours to get through lunch.

This quarter's theme is Cajun, so I had shrimp, grits and collard greens with bacon (see pic) & beignets with berry sauce (also see pic). It was DELICIOUS & was cooked super quickly. AND the prices are super reasonable! ($12 for both!) Any tips for the wait staff go to a scholarship fund, as well. I would definitely recommend, but since it's a class, make sure to call ahead for hours & days it's open.

However, the seating is kind of weird because you're all lined up where the location should have the tables in a square around the Chef so that you can see what the chef is doing and mimic with the chef is doing instead of getting up and sitting down getting up and sitting down. So almost like a large island style shape in a square around the Chef presentation table. Hope this makes sense but there is a lot of getting up and sitting down. For the cost, you really do not get a lot of food so I would highly recommend not planning on this being your dinner I was disappointed and did not mention that we would be sitting with someone else and so if you are a germ phobic , this is definitely not for you. We made pasta and everyone at our table contributed to making the pasta with their hands, and it really made me feel uncomfortable. They provide everything for the recipes they do not offer any drinks minus water. Everything else is BYOB. This is a great experience. I recommend it just a heads up on what to expect.
