High ceilings, classic atmosphere, the kind of place where you half expect people from a century ago to walk through the doors. All we had was the Café Colombo Especial Duplo (for two), and it was more than enough. Quick tip before ordering: adjust your expectations a bit. As Americans, we're used to breakfast meaning eggs, sausage, bacon the whole heavy lineup. In Brazil, breakfast leans more toward pastries, breads, yogurt, and coffee. And that's exactly what they brought out: baskets loaded with different kinds of bread, pastries, spreads, yogurt, and plenty of coffee. Honestly, it was a lot. So much bread we couldn't even finish it all. A simple breakfast, but in a setting that makes the whole experience feel special.

Yelp Review 2025 #177:…read more I was going to a more popular cafe a minute away from Casa Cave but they don't open til 11am so, I was going to pre-game here. There was a line with 5 people ahead of me but since I was dining solo, I got to skip the line and the doorman let me go in and hands me a card to take to the cashier. But not knowing Portuguese and them not knowing English, it was confusing. I got a table but it hasn't been cleaned yet but I sat my bag down while looking at the food display. I went up to the counter with the older lady cashiers and placed my order and paid. What I ordered were readily available and don't require cooking but I only received one item. So, I pulled out Google Translate to let them know I was missing parts of my order and only received one item. A few minutes later, I got everything I ordered. And you know when people are talking about you in a different language? That was the vibe I got here. Pastel de Nata: They got an award for their pastel de nata so, my expectations were pretty high. It was ok. They could've warmed it up before serving and offered sugar and cinnamon but nope. I've had better. 3/5 Passionfruit Juice: It tasted fresh. A nice balance of tart and sweet. 4/5 Bolinho de Bacalhau: Fried cod fritter. Tasty, crunchy on the outside. 3.5/5 Coxinha: I love this stuff. It's one of my favorite Brazilian food. Like a fried croquette shaped like a teardrop filled with chicken and cream cheese. 4/5 There's a review site that claims this place is cash only - not true. But I got cash with me when I went here.

We walked up the many flights of stairs (not knowing that there was a lift...) to find a bright airy sitting area. My order was mushroom penna pasta and it came nice and piping hot. The taste was great! To wash that down, I ordered their coffee and cookie combo for R$7.90. A cuppa espresso and a cookie of your choice, which comes warm (meaning nice and melty chocolate chips inside! yummmmmm). It was not as pricy as we expected it to be. Definitely going back!

This new location is hidden on the third floor of a clothing shop (Folic/Checklist). Only found this place as I was waiting for some friends outside of the Folic clothes store, and noticed their menu. I went there today with co-workers and we were pleasantly surprised. They have a diverse menu - they have daily specials. Each day of the week has a specific dish, plus their menu has diverse salads, build your own plate, and pastas. I had the dish of the day(R$25.40), which were two burger patties, wedge potatoes seasoned with herbs and a Caesar salad. The salad greens were really fresh and seasoned well. The patties were flavorful and went well with the caramelized onions. You could order traditional French fries or the wedge potatoes. I opted for the wedge, but you only get three...which seemed like a small portion for the size of the dish. But it was a pretty filling dish. Another co-worker ordered a pasta dish - Penne with Funghi, which also well served and really creamy. Another colleague ordered their pesto salad. It was a big bowl of salad greens, carrots, beetroot, pasta in pesto sauce, tomatoes and chicken. The salad looked really fresh and bright and colorful. Everyone was happy with their dishes. As the name of the restaurant goes, we also had to order something sweet. We chose the Banana Boat - a banana cake with chocolate chips (served warm) with vanilla ice cream. Was really good! I am not a big banana cake person, but this was perfect. it wasnt overly sweet and was warm and light. A great end to a great lunch. This was a hidden gem and we will go back for sure! We were worried about space, but they have a ton of seating, and can easily get a table for 4 or 6 people. We will be returning to try other menu items and sweet desserts.

Unfortunately, this place is only open for lunch so if we are here for dinner, you are out of luck. The moment we walked in, everything is screaming French. From the old photos on the wall, to even the smallest details such as the olive oil bottle. The wine list also consists many French wines from Bordeaux to Loire. It is not a big restaurant by any measure. We were lucky that there were an open spot. We were told by the server that you often need make reservations in advance. The menu is pretty simple (see picture): fixed course with fish and muscles as main, vegetable with cheese as starter, and top it off with crème brulee, lemon sorbet as desert. We were also offered complementary cauliflower soup as a mise en bouche (pre-starter). The food was simple but very well made. From the jam to the fish fillet and to the lemon sorbet, everything reminds us of the summer of south France. And there is the cheese... We had goat cheese and Reblochon. They were amazing. Given we travel to France quite often and had our fair share of cheeses, we know a good piece of cheese when we taste one, and yes they were legit! The service was also great. The server was here to explain every single dish and what ingredients went into the dish. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch here and lastly, we had a chance to meet the chef who is also very friendly.

Because of its size I would recommend that anyone makes a reservation before heading there. Once the hard part is done with , you are seated promptly in a small dining room fronting an open. They have a menu a la carte but I recommend the 3 course lunch special l From the lovely amuse bouche soup, to the three appetizers, through the entree, followed by three desserts there was not a misstep; all amazing dishes accompanied by the excellent service, and a chef (Master Chef David Jobert) who enjjoys himself and his clientele. This is not 3 hour extravaganza but an hour and a quarter of fine dining at an incredibly reasonable price.
