On my last visit I spent a lot of my time eyeing a long handmade redgum bench. Sleek and simple it stood in the middle of the store and radiated comfort. Unfortunately the price tag (well over $1000) and lack of space in my house meant that I didn't have a hope in hell. But I can dream. Wilkins and Kent have some great kitchenware ranges including the Nigella Lawson range, and some exquisite ceramic bowls. On my last visit I bought some ceramic birds that hang from the wall - glazed with beautiful colours they are beautiful little pieces of art and around the ($50) mark, weren't too expensive. The service at Wilkins and Kent is always great, although the store can get very busy so it may take a while to get some service. But friendly and well meaning, the sales assistants are helpful and knowledgeable about the products.

And from what we hear, the bosses Jeremy Wilkins and Stephen Kent are the actual furniture makers. Out of loyalty went into the Harvey Norman Maribyrnong store to buy some smaller electronics ($300 worth) knowing they would price match against competitors such as Officeworks under their advertised price guarantee and was meet with a barrage of excuses and reasons from different staff members not to honour it. Then asked to speak to manager and waited 15 minutes to be aggressively approached by him and later threatened in a persecuting manner that as we had already opened the box to inspect the goods we were buying, (Logitech keyboard) we had therefore already bought it at the full price" when we refused and decided to leave without a purchase. He threatened to get security using further further verbal and physically intimidating tactics to purchase the items. As we began to leave he "escorted us out" like we criminals. Our upcoming intent to purchase a full Sonos home theatre system and sound bar and HP spectre laptop (about $6000-$7000 worth ) will be going elsewhere

I usually frequent the Collingwood store these days for last minute office emergencies, but the Frankston store was always my local. Both I have found, lack that all important quality customer service. It is my belief, that if a store is going to be built by such epic proportions, then the business needs to supply adequate staff to be on the floor at all times, in all departments. On far too many occasions, I have been in a rush to locate something in particular and have found absolutely no one around for miles. The store's so empty I could hear crickets. Prices may be reasonable but if I can't find someone to consult on what the best say, webcam is or style of photo paper is best, I'm going to leave the store. Which I have done. On numerous occasions. Perhaps if megastores like Officeworks put as much effort into their customer service as they do their product range and low prices, they wouldn't lose as many customers.

It is run by people who absolutely adore their jobs. The owner was quite old when I was regularly going there about ten years ago and I went today and he was still there - zooming around in his electric wheelchair. There is nothing that will separate him from his nursery and his enthusiasm is catching. Customer service here is amazing and any question you have related to gardening will be answered in detail with 100% surety by the staff. They have been in business for years and years and it is clear to see why. The signage hasn't been replaced or updated for quite a few years and is looking pretty worn but don't let that deter you. There is a huge range of plants and seedlings available as well as all the essential fertilizers, rodent pesticides and weed killers. Their plants have always been good value and have always done well when I have followed the planting and care directions provided for each. This nursery is a great business to visit - and I would go there simply for the encouraging atmosphere, let alone the great prices. Check them out.

Yes B & S has the best looking and diverse range of fruit and veg I have seen, but it doesn't stop there. And yes, they do stock a range of sauces and deliciousness from Gourmet Simon Johnson. This grocer is not only filled with beautiful products but friendly staff and a conjoining butcher for all your carnivourous needs. They had a great range of pine and hardwood furniture. They were very helpful in getting what I wanted. The only problem I had was it took about 6 weeks to make as it was a specific size I needed, the salesman did explain that but I hoped it would of been quicker. Well worth walking in and asking them what you want.
