I visited this BJ's location because my wife joined for free. I am not a big fan of BJ's, prices are higher or comparable to local supermarkets and doesn't provide the value Costco does. Let me give you an insider information to their regard for food saftey as a former vendor employee.. 0 stars should be reflected on the Health Inspector, I think conditional satisfactory, primarily bc of the food samplers, that's kept at that store. The GM banned me from the store and criticized me over tiny things, like an employee spilling mints I was demoing, while opening them. But the never cares if SAS Retail Services food sampler vendors let customers reach their hands into the main bowl of food that SAS is serving. That bowl is the main bowl that will be seperated into individual samples, its a huge food satey issue to let customers with unwashed hands and no gloves, reach into a bowl of food meant for everyone. And the GM never told an advantage employee, therw who joined in late December, to change wash her hands or even change her glove after constantly using her phone, before she handled food. Phones have fecal matter on it, especially when phones are taken to the bathroom. And SAS Retail employees don't seem to be washing their hands before they start food sample demonstrations. Both SAS and current Advantage Employees don't wash their hands a 2nd time in the bakery or Deli sink, after they washed their hands in the bathroom, after going to the bathroom. They are suppose to wash twice per SOP guidelines. If you see that BJ's woman'sbathroom, you will agree heavily with the SOP guidelines that mandate they wash their hands twice. They SAS Retail Services at that store don't use 3 cleaning solutions most of the time, they only use the sanitizer solution or Clorox Cleaning Wipes. BJ's Corp wants them to use 3 cleaning solutions. You can see them using the sanitizer solution or clorox wipes at the isles in the stores around Wednesdays- Sunday. 2 advantage employees who joined the company after December, one may no longer work there, we're purposefully disregarding/doing the opposite of what the safety training video they had said(for pushing 25lb carts around). The Safety training video for Advantage ESS and Leads had, specifically stated that the carts had to be pushed from behind, and slowly, especially around corners. The EES and Leads had to push slowly and watch out for people in front of them. The 2 Advantage Employees who joined after December refused to push the 25lb cart, they kept pulling it most of the time, and pushed it fast. When the first out of those 2 employees were told to push the 25lb cart as per their Safety Training, she claimed that EES like her got a separate Safety Training Video than Leads. That isn't true because the Safety Training Video stated all Event Specialists who pushed the cart, had to push it the same way, for safety reasons. There was no separate method for Leads and ESS or regular Event Specialists to push the carts mentioned in the safety training video. It would be included in the training videos for a Lead if there was. The 2 Advantage Employees, who joined after December, didn't care about the handbook in general. They didn't follow this safety training, and still don't. The Advantage Employee who joined after those 2 girls, likely pulls the cart despite the Safety training video too. Like those 2 girls, he may be a former SAS Employee. The BJ's Deli Employee and rhe BJ's produce employees Corin, encourage them when they pulled their carts for them, by also doing it in a way that disregards the Safety Training. (If they still move their carts foe them.) He Deli got doesn't like to hear about the Advantage Vendor Safety training, which differs form BJ store employees. The Deli guy had once said he doesn't care about the Advantage policies. The outside agency also might have been putting paper towels in microwaves. Advantage work orders mentioned putting Deli paper in ovens, and I think paper towels in microwaves. I saw one of the 2 advantage solution employees(the 1st one), who joined after Dec, looked like.she ess going to put paper towel in a microwave. I told her not to use paper towels in the oven, or Deli paper in ovens, if the workorder said to do so, and to ask someone instead. That girl didn't even respond or answer whether she was following those instructions. (Another store Lead said ignore those workplace instructions, they didn't have to be followed.) The outside agency left aluminum foil line in a portable oven, and maybe didn't change ge the aluminum when they used the oven again. The ovens also have crumbs stuck in them for 1-3 years, none of the food samplers even clean clean half of them out at anytime. read more

For weeks the employee stated that the propane was down so I called the manager and he said he never heard that and he will check. I spoke to another worker and he said its fine, it was never down. So obviously the guy with a beard and piercings didn't want to fill bottles. I went there and he filled my cylinders and several seemed light and the ones with gauges shown that they were not filled all the way. He said that there is a problem with the gauges. I took them to the propane company 1 block away and they checked the weight and gauges and said that they were all not filled all the way and the ones without gauges were 1/2 filled and the gauges were fine. DO NOT GO THERE...if you are close to Ocean Twp, go to Seaboard on Kings Hwy. They refilled my cylinders for free. read more

BJ's Wholesale Club - Wholesale Stores Near Me - Oakhurst, New Jersey

Staff are NOT wearing masks and gloves properly. Some staff move their mask below their nose [3 in this store Wednesday 9/2]. they pulled them up when i asked them to do that , but later had them down again. One employee working outside at a floral stand did not wear his mask when with customers outside [although less than 6 feet away] and came in and out of the store several times with the mask below his chin. Customers all through the store wore their masks below their nose. A woman at the service desk [long sandy hair and apparently going off duty at about 4:30] kept her mask below her nose and would not correct it. I went back Thursday 9/4 . Very much the same behavior and the now that bearded employee without a mask at all. When i requested that a store employee make an announcement that masks must be worn properly, he would not , stating that he could tell employees but Not customers. BJ's , You have an obligation to make sure the Law is complied with in the interest if not of your employees , then certainly your customers. In the hope of a response and correction of behavior by BJ's and BJ's management , i will wait to report this to the health department. read more

I I always do self checkout but the cashier told me to go to her and I said oh no I'm just waiting for a self checkout and she says "yea Ik that's why I told u to come here" i always do self checkout in case they mess up like they have done to me in the past. I pay for everything and then I go to walkout and the guy says "you're missing something" and I said "well I went to a cashier so what did I miss" and he goes "i don't know you have to go back and see what they missed" she forgot to scan a $3 almond milk. Pretty great experience since 1 I hate social interaction and 2 I had to go back in line to scan the one thing the cashier missed. Fellow yelpers seem to have this place nailed. This particular BJ's is a scary situation. I've come here a few times now as a guest but have no intentions of getting a membership. The atmosphere is dark and dingy. I know it's a warehouse, as I have been to costco and sams club, but the store never seems to have the right lighting. The parking lot is even darker and I would not recommend shopping alone. They seem to have a large supply of household items for a good price, but the variety of food/drinks is much smaller than I expected. Very poor selection of prepared/deli foods. The workers here seem uninspired. They mumble and you don't know what to put on the conveyer belt and what to keep in your cart. Make sure you do keep large items in your cart, because the workers do not assist you in loading any of the items back into your cart. If you want cardboard boxes to load your stuff in, etc., just take them yourself....no employee is going to suggest you take one with a friendly smile, despite the fact they are all piled up practically in front of you. They do mail you a coupon book but I don't see why because by the time you make it the store the coupons are expired. I'm serious. Even if it's expired only by a day or two and the items are still fully stocked on the shelves, the employees won't cut you a break. Positives? This place is never crowded, at least not after 6 pm. They do have self check out... but I don't see the point of that since most people, like myself and my friend, shop in bulk at BJ's.... but hey, if you are on a milk run... I really love to grocery shop at places like Costco and Sam's club. I feel like I'm going on a mini adventure. BJ's in Oakhurst, however, is just sad. No one smiles. No one says Hi. I think the store needs a face lift and address the situation with it's employees. For whatever reason they do not want to be there, so there has to be a larger problem with management, etc.. I'm not an employee, so I cant speak for them, but I've never seen such an uninspired group. I don't intend on getting a membership nor do I intend on returning here as a guest. I have read all the reviews and I've been shopping here for many years more than a decade. I have never experienced anything like these other reviewers. The employees have always been nice and helpful and I've never felt unsafe. I enjoy shopping at BJs and as for the lighting complaint never noticed that either. I'm not going to review prices or items, however I will speak on something more important, safety. In our current pandemic situation, masks are important, they serve to protect each other. The past 3 times I have been here I have seen at least 1 employee not wearing a mask, or wearing it incorrectly (nose, mouth exposed). Today (3rd visit) I saw 2 employees with mouth and nose exposed. If I am wearing a mask (which is a CLEAR directive from the State of New Jersey) to protect everyone else, then I expect BJ employees to wear their masks (Ahain State Law currently) to protect ME! This place is a hit or miss whenever i visit. The pricing and organization of the store is perfect. The large number of staff members present are often never attending to the needs of customers at the lines. You would often have staff idle while lines pile up and one or two poor cashier are the only ones working the lanes, comon help them out. The store has been around for quite a while so this may have been recent or has been a issue that never got corporate attention. I think it is a pretty good store. My coupons arrive early In the mail and are never out of date by the time I am ready to use them. They have lots of bargains and I shop there regularly. The shelves are neat and the store orderly at the store in Oakhurst. Yes the lighting is on the low side,but it s far from a dump. The personnel have been friendly and helpful to me. I really try very hard to like this place, but it just seems very run down, nobody seems to enjoy working there, and it shows. I went in today to spend hundreds of dollars. I received a coupon book in the mail that is good through the end of the month. I got to the checkout counter and I was told that two of the coupons have expired. Upon looking closer at them, two of them expired three days ago. Instead of accommodating the customer, BJ's would rather put the items on a return shelf and not sell them. Both items were dairy products, and I am sure they are still sitting there on the shelf under the register as I write this. read more

This BJs is a dump. We've been members since this store opened 15 years ago. My biggest complaint is that the employees are not very nice. They range from just okay to plain nasty. This applies to everyone from cashiers, managers, the people who give out food samples, and restocking personnel. If they learned how to smile and be nice, it would make the shopping experience much nicer. I generally avoid this store and shop at the Costco just down the although (we have memberships to both Costco and BJs). read more

BJs is a ongoing problem. I live behind them and they get deliveries all night. The noise of the forklift going on the truck causes constant noise that keeps me up all night . They have no respect for the local law and don't care about anyone that lives behind them. read more

I've been a Bjs member for as long as they've been open. As others have said it's a rather dismal place with very few shoppers but yet I continued to shop there because it's conveniently located. Recently, they ran a promotion where you had to buy x number of P&G items which qualified you for $20 off a future purchase if you came back and shopped during a specified week. I did all of the above - and when I checked out, the computer didn't deduct the $20. The clerks at Customer Service were nice but totally confused as to how to handle the problem. They told me that this had been a computer issue all day. It became an unbelievably convoluted shell game and even after a letter to the store manager they refuse to refund the money which they say they did, but in truth, not. It's only $20 but has taken a tremendous amount of my time without results and I feel that Bjs doesn't appreciate their loyal members. So now they can call me a former member. I won't be shopping there any more and I won't be renewing my membership. read more
