We chose BJs over the others to join after having kids because the stores near us had much better hours. Wish they had more free samples or a food court like some others, but the deals are still great. We gave to check against bulk Amazon prices but BJs is usually the better price. Nice clothing and kid section options. Have seen free samples a few times but only around noon on Saturdays. My SO and I visit this location whenever we want to restock on things like Premier or drinks. There's always plenty of parking and somehow, we've always had the good fortune of not dealing with massive crowds, regardless of the time we visit. We use the app to make our purchase at the end of the trip, which avoids waiting in line and gets us out of the store quickly. For most of our visits, we end up hitting the deli counter and there's usually a long wait. Going forward, we plan to order those items ahead of time on the app instead of waiting. If you can't tell, I highly recommend utilizing the app to cut down on time wasted. The items we return for are always in stock and we've never had an issue with finding things in the store. Overall, I think this location is great and much less hectic than other ones we've gone to. read more

Good and bad things about this location: great parking, easily accessible and the front end staff are very sweet. They usually have a good variety of items (popular items like the shrimp cocktail are usually out of stock on weekends). However this store frequently moves items which makes shopping difficult. Even ordering ahead online, my deli items were not ready and this resulted in the deli staff engaging in a super unprofessional fight in front of me. This store was built over 20 years ago and it shows, some areas of the store are dirty and the place needs a facelift. read more

OMG now I'm a big Costco fan but I decided to get a BJ's membership and I'm glad I did. Number one it cost less for membership by an average of $30-50. And now I can get the same brands there as well. Plus I like the different portions too in additional to bulk purchases I can get a dinner for one or two. They have great clothing too and it has expanded now which I was hoping for. Also get your rotisserie chicken for $4.99 too that's right! It's delicious too. I also save money for gas at their pump unlike Costco. They are a lot nicer and the lanes are clean and constantly picked up after. I have to look for an hour to find one item in Costco because it is so unorganized. They do not give you grief if you do not have your card out when you come in and you just have to show your receipt when you leave. They have Dunkin' Donuts too in addition to a huge bakery. I like that they are carrying designer brand clothing and shoes that are not excessively expensive. You also have an easier time when you order online and pick up is sooo easy. They have plenty of ha di apples parking right in front of the store so no long walks with wheelchairs or walkers. In average I am saving &40-70 each time I shop. I'm surprised by the low ratings for this location because this has not been my experience. Granted, I only come to this location once a week and on the same day/time (Saturday mornings). On Saturday mornings this location has great customer service, the store is in order, and no issues with line waits (self-check). Recently, I went to customer service to ask if a product was in stock in the back. The woman at the counter greeted me and was friendly. She asked another associate to help and look in the back. I got my item; super easy. Plus, other times I've gone to the customer service desk for returns, they've always been friendly and quick. This is a pretty large BJ wholesale store. I haven't been to all of the ones in Jersey, but it's the largest one I've been to. Because of that, I think they have more of a variety of products (clothes, seasonal items, etc.). I don't know why I bothered. Waited 20+minutes at the deli counter. One guy helping (and I use that word loosely) customers waiting and one guy doing somebody's catering order. When the next number called wasn't there, instead of calling on the following number, the guy went and started a phone order! While people were waiting at the counter!!! No sense of urgency to help the people waiting in front of him. This is why I keep my Costco membership. read more

Some genius decided it would be funny to make all of the self-checkout lines 15 or 20 items or less. Who even GOES to BJ's for less than 20 items? Dead serious, the guy who checked us out would scan an item then have a full minute's convo with staff, other customers, etc. before scanning the next item. It took forever to get out of there. First off the deli guys were great, Quick, competent and courteous. Next issue, When is the RX eyeglass dept ever open, Every time I go there its not open. While there today around 3:30 this announcement comes over the PA system over and over and over again for the membership dept to pick up the phone, All the while there are three women leaning on the counter yacking and having a good time, They looked like the three stooges doing their comedy act. This BJ has a good selection of items but unfortunately they are always out of something. Today, I went in with a list of 23 things and they didnt have 9 of them. When I asked the Associate of she knew when it would be in, she responded by saying that it shows that they are in stock but maybe they just didnt put them out or they put them in the wrong area. Also, check their expiration dates I bought an item and I was walking out the store I noticed that it was expiring in two weeks. Customer service refunded me, but that still shouldnt be the case. I should have checked everything, but I didn't got home to find that I had an item that was up in 4 days. read more

In 2021 when i shopped there before my membership expired, my daughter accidentally ht the "auto-renew" button at the register. We immediately went to customer service & had the rep cancel it. She said it happens a lot because of the placement of the button. Got a renew notice in the mail in oct 2021 but i'd decided not to renew. Never used the card after that membership ended. I got another renew notice in the mail at the end of sept 2022 & i saw that it said my membership was ending on 10/31/2022. Thought it was odd but threw out the mailer - i hadnt been charged & never used it anyway. Couple days later, BJ's billed my credit card $58 for the cost of renewal. Called, spoke to guy, he says theyll cancel it & the money will be refunded in 7-10 days. That didnt happen. Went to call again but checked my cc statement first & i see that BJ's HAS NOW BILLED ME OVER $117.00! Now im pissed! Call again, rep keeps putting me on hold, cant explain except to tell me that he has to report it to their "escalation dept". Im like, mgr now! Transferred me to "escalation mgr" who proceeds to tell me im being billed for 2021 & 2022! SERIOUSLY? Membership not used all that time & BJ's thinks they are going to make me wait another 10-13 days before THEY RETURN THE MONEY THEY STOLE FROM ME????? NEVER SHOP AT BJ's - THEY WILL ROB YOU!!!! AND LET ME ADD - BJ's WANTS *ME* TO PROVE THAT I WAS CHARGED OVER $117 BEFORE THEY WILL EVEN CONSIDER MY REQUEST FOR REPAYMENT OF THE MONEY THEY TOOK ILLEGALLY. AND THIS WAS AFTER THIS 'TONI' (SP?) This is not only about this store but BJ's. Went to BJ's earlier today for my company and was never given my card back from the cashier. Unfortunately I didn't realize it until later in the day. I tried to call just to be sure that my card was at their front desk. First call no answer. Second call, no answer. Third call, finally get someone that doesn't handle this matter. Get put on hold and never picked up. Being irate, I return to the store in person. Then I'm told that they do not have my card. I ask to have it cancelled so no one uses the money I accrued on my 2% cash back. I'm then informed that they can issue me another card but if they need to cancel the original, all they can do is close the account and I lose the accrued money. What kind of garbage system do they run that you can't do this simple task? You could really see how concerned the workers were to help. (Sarcasm, by the way) They couldn't care less. Recently, I saw them surveying customers to see what they can improve. I'll tell you, there are plenty of things they can improve at this dump if they want to really compete with Costco. They should start by getting a system that can handle such a simple task since customers may lose a card or not have it returned. Also, while your at it, stop treating your coupons like gold. Not every patron has time to sit and go thru your books assuming you have them or actual send them. If you don't know it, Costco will give customers a coupon book in store, plus if they scan any one coupon from the book, you are automatically given all the discounts in that coupon book for merchandise you purchased saving a lot of time. Nice when a company cares about their customers. Time to start frequenting other wholesale clubs since after 15 years with this place you can see how little they are willing to do. read more

Charging literally double for name brand bottled water for half the amount of quantity, and prices being 20% more for cream cheese in the store than on the app and website. I had to jump through hoops to pick up a mattress that my wife had already paid for since I have a truck. Upon exiting the store I was met with resistance from an employee who proceeded to verbally assault me after the manager radioed in my purchase. I was accused of stealing and not until the manager showed up did the employee stop from the profanity she was calling me. I hate to not give them business because of unhappy employees. read more

Have u seen the Dr. in the optical dpt. ? Well i did, for the first time today and couldn't believe my eyes. Very nice guy, but looked filthy and unmasked. Poor man, was in a wheel chair. First the good things: It's close, it's open for long hours, and there's seldom a long line at the checkout. They have self checkout too, which helps to speed things along when you don't have much. Computers and other electronics can be a good deal (check bjs online for pricing vs competitors). Now the rest: for groceries... Their prices are never really that good unless you use a coupon, so that's kind of annoying. They do have store brands that are cheaper than the brand names, but their prices are generally in line with the prices at the local stop and shop (and you have to buy much larger quantities). Annnnnd... those store brands (and many of the other stuff the sell) is sub-par quality. It's like bulk buying at aldi, but without the low price. For most things, I'd rather just go to stop and shop for same or lower price and often better quality. I really don't see the point in paying a membership fee to be able to do this. All in all, at similar prices, the Kirkland (costco) brand is premium quality whereas BJs brand is discount quality. The only reason I think BJs stays in business here is because the Costco is too far away (and can get very crowded). Don't bother with this place; just go to stop and shop for regular trips and make the trek to willowbrook costco every few weeks for the rest. it's a sams club competitor, not a costco competitor; different league entirely. read more

I've been shopping at this location for many years. For me it seems well stocked and has great deals, especially with all the coupon books you get in the mail plus coupons you can scope out online. The biggest issue I've had was the ungodly traffic of people in there on weekends if you don't get there right when they open. I don't get many items that I need to be picky about the selection so I've been using the the shop from home option for in store pickup. Now I walk in smiling at those long lines and pay at customer service get my carts to push out and I'm out the door in 5 minutes or less. read more

Kuddos to the 3 ladies in the bakery department. I met 2 of the 3. I ordered 2 cakes yesterday for a company party. When I ordered and met the 2 they where definitely reassuring the cakes would be ready the following day and promised me the 3rd coming in later would do an excellent job on designing the cake with my company logo. I am also very surprised at the low ratings for the river dale rt 23 store if anything the Paramus store is the terrible and deserves poor ratings , i shop in river dale rt 23 store over Paramus . BJ's is just like Costco they move things around so you have to walk through the whole store ,this is a marketing tactic . This BJ's is a miserable store, poorly managed, with price gouging on some items (despite the false promise of low prices), and an unprofessional tire center that should be shut down! The weekend before Christmas, I went for a Michelin tire that should have been an easy installation. While waiting in the main store, I get a call on my cell phone from the tire center manager (who looked like he could still have been in high school, and obviously lacked professional training) telling me that they had spent "over 20 minutes trying to get your tire off." This included, he said, forcibly pulling and pushing of the tire by several employees, using a mallet, and -- without my authorization -- inundating the tire with the pungent-smelling "PBlaster" chemical product, but were still unable to remove the tire. The tire on the car still had life when brought in, but was now manhandled and ruined, impacting the car's ride and safety, and preventing me from using my car for a scheduled business trip the next day. The attitude of BJ's management, including a female official in Massachusetts where the store is based --- Too bad! I was forced to pay for a rental car to travel as a result, with BJ's refusing to take any responsibility for their actions. BJ's refused to pay for my necessary rental car, nor would they pay for their damage to my tire. (The pungent smell from the chemical compound remaining all over the tire and wheel rim, even after water spraying, also prevented the car from being kept inside my garage, making winter parking extremely difficult). After I reported the incident to BJ's store manager, I was told, quoting, "They (the staff in the tire center) were doing you a favor by spending all that time trying to take your tire off." Huh? Manhandling a car, pounding, pushing and dousing an existing tire with chemicals (that come with a breathing hazard warning, and cause progressive disintegration of metal and rubber)--at a facility lacking proper training and equipment to remove a tire in the first place--does no customer a "favor". It simply damages customer property. Instead, all they had to do was honestly acknowledge they lacked the ability to take my tire off with their limited resources, and I would have gone elsewhere. BJ's operates like an organized crime outfit, where wrongdoing is promptly covered up and handled with a policy of "omerta," or turning of a blind eye, while the customer who reports the misconduct is berated, insulted and threatened with cancellation of membership---in retaliation for complaining and seeking positive resolution! "BJ's doesn't want your business," I was told by a nasty woman claiming to be the customer relations manager from corporate headquarters in Massachusetts! BJ's also gouges prices on some items--charging, for example, 30 cents more for packaged Poland Spring water jugs than their own Paramus, NJ location 25 minutes away. The on-duty Riverdale manager, when the price discrepancy was brought to his attention, smugly responded, "You just don't understand retail." BJ's Riverdale-Pompton Lakes, and the chain as a whole, does not deserve one cent of the public's hard-earned money or membership "fees", and should be closed down. The chain believes "the customer is always wrong"---and can be abused at will. Amazingly, BJ's abusive management and predatory practices make Walmart seem like heaven. I've been shopping at BJ's for years and years I actually love BJ's but I was a little disappointed with BJ's in Riverdale I noticed the prices are higher than other BJs stores. Maxwell House coffee is $2 higher here than other BJs. I spoke customer service in New Rochelle, they told me the prices are higher in the Bronx some BJ's have higher mark-ups. I will do most of my shopping in alternate locations only shop here when I need something in a pinch. I would suggest to the management l keeping the prices low and the same in all BJs because this causes distrust and we can take our business elsewhere to get the lowest price including BJ's competitor Costco! read more

My wife and I just bought a new 50" Sony Vizio Flatscreen TV here, and the price was really affordable with the discount they offered. I am also a big fan of their deli and when they have their seafood specials, they have really good deals. I got a pound of large scallops for $12.00 a pound! Very disappointed. I went in to get a tire rotation. There were no cars in any of the bays, and no customers in the waiting area. There were, however, 3 technicians in the customer waiting area playing on their cell phones. We asked if we could get our tires rotated...note this is a 10-15 minute job....we were NO the soonest we can fit you in is next Saturday and 6 pm. I've been a member of BJ Wholesales for almost 6 years now. I've gone to a lot of different locations of the years, but by far this is my favorite location. I went here Thursday and it was well stocked, very clean, and they happened to have samples stations out and those had wonderful people at. I found everything on my list but one item, and they don't carry the one I wanted. Every employee that I had the privilege of enter acting with had a smile on their faces, well dressed, and just glowed that they loved their jobs. Once I put my items into my car, I changed my mind and needed to run back in to get an item I was debating. This time having one item I chose the self checkout. Well there had been an issue with the cc machines. I called the bank made sure the card was not having issues, figured possible being I made 2 large purchase within mins of each other. The young man working the self checkout lanes, came to me helped me every step of the way, all with a smile, and He made me feel as if I was the only person in the store.
