I have been using Black and Gold as I'm downsizing my home. I have found every employee to be friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate. (I recently lost my husband of 35 years, thus the downsizing.) They seem to be honest, too. There have been a few mistakes when items were listed (items were listed as mine that were not, and some of my items were not listed as mine.) But as soon as I notified the office, the corrections were made. I've found the lots appropriate and most lots have sold for a reasonable amount. I bid on a Sterling Silver platter and the seller had etched 925 on the platter but covered up with a sticker the silver plated mark. So when I got it I complained and asked for a refund and said they should pay for the return shipping because of the fraud. They gave me negative feedback on the auction bidding site. Said I was difficult and put no shipping. The feedback from the auction houses is anonymous so I can't clear my good name. Only other auction houses can see it. I understand how it could be a hassle but the incident was not my fault. I think it was pretty low of them to give me bad feedback and I have asked them to change my feedback on the auction site or at least be honest and say they sold me an item which was not what they said it was. There was a sticker over the silver plated mark - totally deceptive and then complained about me when I wanted my money back. This auction house has some nerve. Bad attitude. Black and Gold Review My sister and I have done business, buying and selling, with B&G for many years. Dec 1st 2022 we put up for auction with B&G about 175 items. I am very detailed oriented. Before I retired, I was a CPA. I entered each item on a spreadsheet. Then when the auction was over, I entered the winning bid from their website, computed their commission and came up with what I figured we should be receiving from them. Here is a screenshot of the end of the spreadsheet comparing my totals to B&G's. As you can see, I figured they owed us about $6,900. more than the check they sent us. I had emailed this spreadsheet to them and asked them to review it and to help me understand the differences. After several emails over two weeks and not hearing anything, my sister and I went to their office. She, Reba, acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. She said she would check her computer. Without any challenges, she wrote us a check for $6,794.73. No apology, no explanation. Moral of this is to keep track of what you take to them and doublecheck their settlement sheet because their controls are not good. We had items on our settlement sheet that were not ours, some of ours missing and the commission figured incorrectly on the large items. We also learned that you need to be very proactive on how they set up their lots...ask them to change them if you do not like what they put in a lot. They have a $7 minimum commission fee on each lot. We had 31 lots that we owed them money instead of them paying us for the item. We liked buying and selling with the auction companies in Columbia and decided to stick it out with them to see if things improved. July 2023 I purchased 21 plastic totes from them. When I went to pick them up they only had 17 for me in those lots. She went over and took 4 from another lot, not in as good of shape and missing the one gold one with a black lid. Then, on the 21st of December 2023, my sister won the bid on lot 470 for some ammunition for her son in law for Christmas for $270. She went to pick it up and discovered it was a one day only pickup and it was the day before. We had never heard of a one day pickup. They said they were going to charge her card for $350.50 and keep the merchandise. The $350.50 was made up of...$270 merchandise, 10% Buyer's fee, tax of $16.75, a visa surcharge of $10.75 and a $25 Late fee charge plus they were keeping the ammunition to sell at a future auction. She was able to talk B&G out of it, pleading that she knows to watch that from now on. It is such an unfriendly customer policy. The next night, December 22, 2023 my sister received an email from B&G that said "Bidder Not Approved. Your request to leave bids at our auction has been declined. You have been permanently disallowed to leave bids." She had been removed from their system and could no longer do business with them. My sister was not rude with them at all. Black and Gold determined how everything was divided into lots. We owed money on almost half of the lots they sold for us. They also put some of our stuff under other people's names and some of other people's stuff under our name. They don't have very good communication and they hardly ever to never contact you back. They take their percentage out of each lot no matter how they lot it up. They do have this information in the contract but the general merchandise part is confusing. If it didn't sell well then you still owe them their fee and they own and can put it on another auction. We even had to deliver everything and helped unload it all. I know it's a business and they don't do it for free but they took over half of the sale in commission. read more

Took in 40 boxes of glass alot was vintage.Was very disapointed sold 1980.00 .when all said and done i recieved 581.00.Some items disappeared and i was told they were throw away or donated .I was not told or asked if i wanted them back.they were collectable childrens plate and bowls.Then I see a set of my glasses on their 3 week later .Never again ! read more

Chuck Price put so much integrity into this auction house over the last 20 years, it's sad to see what the new owners are doing to it. I've been warned about the "tricky" photo's they put up, that make you think the item is better than it is. I've had to call them on a few things on other auctions but today... I bought lot that listed 5 silver necklaces, but only had 3 when I got there. Woman at desk who seems a little grumpy already said it was a typo on listing and said it should only be 3 silver. I didn't think I should pay that much so asked to call boss. After a few minutes of her on the phone, she turned said loudly "fine, I'll just refund the lot and it'll be the last time". Then said something about she was supposed to leave at noon (it was 12:10) Cursing loudly inback area. I kept my head down, said thank you and left quietly. Sure enough I got a message on phone saying banned from future auctions. This was good thing, and I'm fine with it. It's not the old black/gold :(, Anyway if you buy gold there TEST it.
