I would not recommend this company. Made a reservation online and received an email confirmation stating that I would receive a call if there were any issues. When a car didn't arrive 15 minutes after the requested time, I called and was told "it wasn't in their system". They said they would send someone in a few minutes. I called back after another 15 minutes (had a flight to catch at Newark) and asked for an ETA. Their response, "what is that"? The car arrived 10 minutes later. When I called, I got the rude old woman who was displeased to have to service my request. She begrudgingly took down my information. I wanted to give her the address to ensure that they were going to take me to the right place since there is another venue with a very similar name. She kept saying that she did not need it, which was frustrating since she did not provide any evidence that they were not going to take me to the wrong place. The driver would later pull the same crap. She said that the cab would be there in 15, it took over 20. Not a very big deal, but the driver was not very excited to be there and indicated that he was roped into this ride even though he had finished his shift for the day. Not my problem. We were three people. My friend wanted to sit in the front passenger seat. The driver begrudgingly agreed. Begrudgingly is really a big theme for this cab company. I also made sure to schedule return service. This is where I really got pissed off. I called up about an hour earlier than scheduled to say that we wanted to get picked up now if possible. The man who picked up the phone said "What do you mean!? You are already back home!" WTF! I said, no I am not. Apparently someone had called for a cab from the same venue and they figured that it was me and cancelled my later cab. We would have been waiting there with our heads up our asses if I had not given them a call. The guy absolutely refused to accept that I was not already home. He got really annoyed at me and HUNG UP. I called right back. I screamed that I was going to give a terrible Yelp review and the guy HUNG UP on me again! Avoid this company. They do not deserve your business. read more

Drivers are professional and courteous, they know the area like the back of their hand and rarely need a GPS. No complaints in this department, at all. Prices are fair. Management leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately. There are a few different people answering the phone - one woman, in particular, is god-awful. Not only is she rude and hangs up on you, but she is terrible at following through on advanced reservations, let alone sending the driver to the right place to pick you up. The following scenario has happened more times than I would like to admit - I call, give her my location, tell her where I need to go and...check the clock, it's been 20 minutes. Did she even say what time the cab is going to get here?! Call back, "YEAH, they are right outside"... Um, no. Not outside, not down the block, want me to walk around and try to find the guy? "Oh, well, I thought you said Maple STREET, you said Maple street, didn't you? Not my fault, you gave me the wrong address!" If you need several cabs because you are in a large group, or if you call during peak hours, you have a 50/50 shot as to whether you will get to your destination on time and minimally frustrated. If you want to speak to a manager, good luck. Every time I have asked to do so, I was rudely dismissed, ignored, or told that the manager is out - indefinitely. So I recommend calling & making the person repeat back the address, and possibly even following through with a second phone call. Don't worry, the cab will get there... but this process is obviously unnecessary if the individuals dealing with the customers just gave half of a shit. Despite all of this, they are still the best cab company in the area, but that is really not saying a whole lot. Drivers are for the most part timely and efficient a good portion of the time. If they fired the lousy call reps and got some decent vehicles (most of their fleet is pretty run-down), it would vastly improve the overall customer service. read more

Reliable cab company. Drivers are always courteous and on time for airport runs. They don't have the nicest, newest fleet ever, but I did leave a fishing rod in the trunk during one airport run, and the driver returned it to my house before I even realized I had forgotten it. read more

Mediocre service at best. They know their way around, but I feel like they always take the LONG route, if you know what I mean. Twice I've been in a cab (traveling from Bloomfield to Montclair) and the cabby just told us "$20 FLAT" ... Seems a bit steep for a three-mile drive. This seems absolutely absurd and overpriced for the service provided. The first driver seemed angry and blasted the music, the second driver complained that there was an additional stop involved which was told to the dispatcher upon booking. I'm a frequent business traveler and have used this taxi company at least a couple dozen times to get to EWR and Newark Penn. The majority of my experiences have been fine, but when it's not fine (maybe a quarter of the time, recently) it's REALLY not fine. Yeah, the older female dispatcher is rude; I can deal with that. Yeah, very few of the taxis are in tip-top shape, but that's not such a big deal to me either. I don't need taxi service to be fancy--but I need it to be safe and reliable. Over the last 8 months I've had 2 drivers show up who were clearly under the influence, have had 2 experiences where the cab was so late I missed or nearly missed a flight (even though the dispatcher kept telling me "they're 2 minutes away"), and have been in numerous taxis that ranged from extremely run-down to downright unsafe (eg, rear-view mirror dangling from a wire, brakes clearly not working effectively). I just don't trust this company anymore. If any of the above were a one-time thing, I might be willing to try again, but I'm not willing to put my life in their hands every time I need to go to the airport. read more

We have used this company multiple times due to a sense of community (we support local businesses), but we have finally had enough. They are consistently late, dispatch is rude, and today they arrived 20 minutes late to take us to the airport and did not have a vehicle which was safe for car seats. Ugh, I seriously don't even know where to start with this place. I have unfortunately had to rely on them for years since I do not drive, and every time I make a call for a cab, I worry that it will never show. I have had 90% horrible experiences and 10% 'at least I didn't die while I was in the cab, so I guess it's okay' experiences. I will say, however, some of the cab drivers (a very select few) are very sweet and deserve to be working elsewhere, because they are just that nice. But honestly for many reasons, I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. Go a bit out of your way to call a different cab company because this place is absolutely ridiculous in regards to their drivers, their attitudes, their unsafe vehicles, long wait times, and their absurdly expensive cab fares. read more

I'm not impressed with Black and White. The dispatchers are always gruff, the service is slow (be careful if you need to catch a train or flight), the cars are hoopties. There are a few super sweet drivers but the spotty service (why do I have to keep calling to see if you're coming and why are they always "5 minutes away") makes it frustrating and for last resort transport only. read more

Such mixed feelings about this company. On one hand, they arrived at the time they promised and got me to my destination promptly. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure my driver was a meth head who needed a fix asap. I can get past the fidgitiness and erratic scratching but when you start treating the freeway as a NASCAR track and one lane roads as three lane highways, that is where I draw the line. Been using them for 3 years. Service has gotten worse and i can only pay with a credit card maybe half the time, which is annoying for expense reimbursements. Made a reservation recently. Was supposed to get picked up for an early morning flight. Confirmed 3 times with them that they had an approved infant car seat. They showed up with a 10 year + seat (in other words expired) and no base, making that illegal and dangerous. We have now missed our flight and must pay a change fee. Terrible service. Incredibly disappointed. read more

10.23.15 was my wedding day and my husband and I had such a bad experience with out limo company that we ended up cancelling them for the night (the ride back home after the wedding). Our friends and family called us a cab from the black & white taxi company. This was the most comfortable and quick ride home ever. Keeton Rawlins was out cab driver and he made the ride memorable. He was more professional then our limo drives from earlier in the day. He helped us pack in all the flowers and gifts from the wedding. He kept a great conversation with us and was super nice. I would use this company again just because of the outstanding service my husband and I received from Keeton. read more

NEVER BOOK with this company!! They are SCAM artists!! I booked them for a ride from my hotel in San Diego to the airport. This reservation was made way in advance. They overcharged $90 for a 20 minute ride to the airport. A friend offered me a ride in her car. I cancelled the reservation over the phone over 24 hours prior to the time of the ride. They put the charges through on my card and charged me $90 for doing NOTHING! I have been back and forth with my credit card company and have disputed the charges. Of coarse they have been very diligent in getting their little fee and have presented some kind of contractual language that I never signed stating that there are no refunds. I will be reporting this company to the better business Beuoro. Spare yourself a lot of hassle and don't ever trust this company. read more

INCONSISTENT PRICING ON SAME DAY FOR SAME TRIP. I recently called Black and White and was quoted $7 for an in town 1.1 mile trip. When I called that very same day for the exact same trip, I was quoted $8 and told there was an $8 minimum for trips in my town. I went to the website and there was no mention of a minimum, furthermore, it quoted a price of $3 per mile so my trip should have been $6. I emailed the owner asking about the cost differences and received NO RESPONSE. Many of the cabs stink of cigarette smoke and are in very poor shape internally and externally. On two occasions, the driver never showed up. But to be fair, I have on occasion also had very polite and professional drivers who showed up on time. The female dispatcher in particular is rude and unpleasant to speak with. Next time I will call Lyft or Uber. I do not like being price gouged even for a small amount and I will not take it out on the drivers in their tips. Shame on you Black and White Taxi. May contact Better Business Bureau to report pricing practices. read more

While the woman who answers the phone is a tad harsh sounding, and often sounds like she doesn't wish to be bothered, the Cabbies are VERY nice, but I do question their integrity.. My complaint is that there is absolutely no consistency in prices. I had to go to the same location twice in the same day, and BOTH times I was charged very different prices. A 3 mile trip at 10am cost me $8.00, but then at 2pm - same route - cost me $12.00. And when I produced a $20.00 bill, both times the cabbies 'had no change.' As an added note, I JUST went back to the aforementioned location today (again), and was told that he thought the price was $11.00. I challenged that, and when he radioed back for a price, I heard dispatch say $8.00. I offered a twenty dollar bill to which he had no change, and when I said that was his problem, he reached into his pocket and told me he was using his own money to make change. HOW is that my problem? Do these cabs not go out with change for their customers? I use these guys in a pinch, but when other companies are available, I go with other options. read more

B&W is pretty good. Not luxury but they get you there. Things I wish they would fix: The website: - When going to an airport, you have to enter a fake address like "1 Newark Airport, Newark NJ" because there's no button for "Newark Airport". Considering this is the main reason I take taxis, this is quite annoying - There's no way to create an account so they automatically know my name, credit card info, etc. - I can't pay ahead of time on their website. Processing credit cards in the car is a pain. SItting at your destination having to wait 5 minutes as the payment goes through is like having an ice cream sundae put 2 inches in front of your face but being told "you can't have it! na-na-na!" Their iPhone app - On the bright side, at least they have an app! - Again, you have to put "fake addresses" for airports. - You can't reserve a trip ahead of time. I want to enter my reservation the night before so the taxi is waiting for me in the morning. I'm busy in the morning... I have to change, shower, etc. I don't want to ALSO have to be clicking my phone to get a taxi. - The process of entering the pickup location is wonky and "find me!" button doesn't find me. Why not save my home address and have a "I'm home!" button? Why not look at my contacts list and use that list of addresses to inform what address the "find me" thinks I am at? - The process of entering a destination address is terrible. Again, you have to "lie" and enter a fake address like "1 Newark Airport". If you then click "autocorrect" it changes it to some weird address. If you enter "EWR" and then click "autocorrect" the result is even stranger. Why not have a dropdown of the 3 nearest airports? I appreciate that they're moving to reservations via web and apps. These are good first attempts. I see where they are going. I just hope they don't stop there. Both have a lot of room for improvement. read more

I called AN HOUR in advanced for a pick up. Gave them a specific time because I had a train to catch...needless to Say I missed my train & when I told the dispatch "manager" that I expect them to take me to my destination free of charge he said quote "no, you think they'll take you free of charge. But that ain't happening. We don't guarantee our cabs & there are no guarantees in life" if I was the owner of this company I would fire that a-hole. Will never be using this service again.
