I went online to find a car service to Newark airport. I've been taking local taxis for years and as prices continue to rise, the quality of the cars continues to decline. If I can pay $42 for a gross car, I reasoned, I'd be willing to pay a little bit more for a nicer car. I found Econolimousine - check out their website, it's http://econolimousine.com. The cars look beautiful, they respond within hours to the request for a quote. The person with whom I spoke was very nice and gave me a quote of $55. Now, for the real story. When I called back to confirm, the guy who answered the phone answered with, "taxi." I asked for the woman with whom I'd spoken before. When we spoke, I also verified that this was, indeed, a limo - a town car - given how the other man had answered the phone, and she assured me it was. I told her I'd be using a credit card and said I just needed to give it to the driver. About 20 minutes before pickup, I was told that a "powder blue Lincoln Town car" was waiting outside of my house, but there was no rush, I should go outside when I was ready. The caller, like everyone else I spoke with, was extremely nice. We finished some last minute packing, and opened the door -- and there was no car there. He wasn't late, but it was kind of weird to get that call and not find someone there. He did show up right on time -- in a powder blue town car that looked like it'd been used for bumper cars. The inside I can only describe as grimy -- didn't want to touch anything -- it looked like the interior hadn't been wiped down in weeks. The door handles were attached with clear duct tape. Once we got to the airport. I handed the driver my credit card -- remember, when I booked I told them I planned to use it. He didn't know this -- and they did not tell me there would be a service charge, although that's pretty standard. What's also standard is a $1 - $2 charge; this company charged $5. Plus tolls. Plus tip. In a car that was in the same condition as a typical cab, or worse. The business card he gave me was for "Ace Taxi," not Econo Limousine. As a comparison -- when I arrived in the city I was traveling to, I had arranged for a car to pick me up. As soon as I got my bag, I texted the company, and within 5 minutes a spotless black Escalade pulled up. The cost was $55. Please don't fall for this company, which is clearly a scam. I expected a car that looked like what was on their website -- and what I got was nothing like it. False advertising at its best. read more

Always reliable, for me anyways. I've been using Econo service for the past couple years around Jersey City, Hoboken, New Jersey. From JC to Newark airport, or pickup from Newark back to Jersey City. 3 am, 5 am, 9am, 6pm, 9pm, 11pm always professional. I usually call, but also use the internet booking to get exact quote for the distance and time which would totally eliminate what most people post here who had problems. You can book it even using your smart phone. How simple is that! I find them reliable and the driver always call 5-10 minutes before arrival. read more

ILLEGAL PRICE GOUGING! Do not use Econo Limousine. After Hurricane Sandy they charged me an illegal price of $150 to get into Manhattan simply because they could. While the tri-state area is devastated these guys are trying to make a buck off you. read more

The driver were early which was nice. The black Lincoln was clean, and the trunk was big enough to fit all my luggage and bags. The driver was very helpful with my bags. Only con: the driver was greedy for money. I was going from Jersey City to Manhattan and I was quoted $45 + toll $12 + tip. The driver quoted me: $45+ toll $12 + some rubbish $4 transaction fee + a large tip. I gave him a generous tip and he kept staring at me and complaining, and we went on discussing about the fees. Seriously I had no idea what this $4 transaction fee was, I knew there was a transaction fee if you were paying with credit card, not cash. I wasn't interested in fighting over a few dollars, so I threw him $5 extra so he would shut up and go away. read more

Best taxi service ever! That is, if your goals are like mine, which were get me from point A to B efficiently, be on time, and be cheap. I reserved a cab ahead of time, they called my phone as I was getting off the plane, they were at the curb exactly when are where they said they would, took me to a hotel in Jersey City, which was like a 20 minute cab ride, and they only charged $28. I talked to others who went to the exact same hotel and paid $70. Same story with the ride back to the airport. 4:30 AM scheduled pick up time, and they were there waiting for me when I came down at 4:25. You're not riding in a limo, but the cab was nice enough. I was a bit concerned about scheduling a pick-up in Jersey City to Newark at 5 in the morning on a weekday but they were there! They even called to let me know that the cab was outside and I got to the airport without any issues for $25. BTW these are the same type of yellow cabs that pick you up on Journal Square. Crooks!!! Don't go with them! Called the nigh before. Confirmed that the price from UWS to LGA would just be $54 plus tolls. Picked me up and then started to drive to LGA. However, the guy completely missed his turn and ended up in the Bronx. 35 minutes later and finally, after I had to navigate this guy using my cell, he finally gave me an $80 bill! I asked him why and he said I had to pay all his charges coming from NJ. Are you serious?! The guy on the phone never mentioned this. When I called the company, they said I should have asked for a flat fee? HUH?! I thought the $54 + tolls was the fee? These guys are crooks. Plus, it doesn't cost $26 (the $80 minus $54 charge for the fare) to drive into Manhattan and to drive into Queens. Total crooks. He also kept on asking if I'm from NYC or visiting (a tactic taxis usually use to up charge fairs). Wow... don't use these crooks! read more

Made reservation by phone, was easy and clear. Went from Newport to Newark airport, the fare was $28, which was like half of the taxi fare, so I tipped generously. The driver was very nice and was right on time! Good service. read more

This is the worst cab service in the history of Services our driver had the ability to make a $200 fee from Jersey City to Westchester and he refused to drive. He literally blamed us for not paying on credit card beforehand. We ended up getting out and taking new cab. read more

Call someone else for car service! They said 15 minutes and DID NOT SHOW UP or even call me. Here's a rundown of my bad experience. 5:30pm: Called for a ride to 34th St. in Bayonne. (HBLR service was suspended due to a downed tree during a storm.) They said 15 minutes. 5:45: No one showed up. 6:00: Called again. They said the driver was on their way. 6:15: Spoiler alert! No car. Called again, got told again that the driver was on their way and would call me. Then got hung up on. 6:30: No car. Called again, and no one answered the phone. read more

I made a reservation with Econo to drive me to Newark airport from Jersey City at 10am. I had to run out to the ATM really quickly and when I returned back to my building I noticed that that the driver was waiting for me at 9:55am. I told him I'd be down in 5 minutes, he acknowledged, but I ended up taking 10 minutes. The driver started blowing up my cell phone and calling me non stop at 3 minutes after 10am. I came down at 10:05 and he didn't get out of his car or even open up the trunk for me so I can put my luggage in there. He made me put my luggage in the backseat with me. He dropped me off at the airport and tried to charge me a $7 waiting fee because he arrived at my building at 9:50am and I did not get to the car until 10:05am. He said he almost waited 30 minutes. I argued saying I requested a car for 10am. He backed off and just charged me the flat, $25 fee. Will not use Econo again. read more

I was visiting a friend in Jersey City and was looking for an inexpensive taxi for a ride to the Newark Airport. I called Econo Limo and they quoted me $28 for a ride from Jersey City to Newark Airport (+$2 surcharge for credit card). I had to ask several times that $28 was correct because it seemed so low, they confirmed it was that price and I set up a reservation. They were on-time and my driver was very nice. He ended up taking one wrong turn and, in turn, didn't charge me for the tolls. I ended up paying $38 (including tip) for a trip to the airport! I was VERY pleased with this company and will be using them again. read more

This was my experience from 7/12/2011. I had a 8:00am flight at Newark airport, and scheduled a 6:30am pickup in Paulus Hook area of Jersey City. I admit this is cutting it close, and I should have buffered time for issues. Issues like the car not being at my front door when 5 mins ago the dispatcher called saying it was there. I called the dispatcher who then in turn called the driver. After a few mins of conversation in a different language, where the only words I understood were "are you in hoboken or jersey city?", the dispatcher said the taxi will be there in 5 seconds. A couple mins later, still no where to be seen. Called the dispatcher back, who then got on the phone with the driver again. Waiting...waiting...waiting...this time I was told the driver was a couple of blocks away. Waiting...waiting...waiting...by this point I was sweating bricks that I was going to miss my flight. I called the dispatcher back and stayed on the phone with him until the driver got there. I see the car and it drives right past my building! I tell the dispatcher to tell his driver to turn around. When I get in the car, the driver had the nerve to tell me that he was here on time the "first" time he came to pick me up, but didn't see me so he left. Um, if that were true, isn't it customary for car service that you reserved wait at least 5 mins for the client?! Besides, the fact that he drove right by my building the so called "second" time is proof that he obviously had no idea where my building was and never came in the first place! The rest of the ride was pleasantly quiet, although the car was quite old. It cost me about $66 bucks with tip for the ride. I would definitely not use this service again. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Absolutely horrible service (if you can call it that). The dispatcher quoted me 15/20 min, and then stopped answering my calls when 30 min passed and I'm standing outside still waiting. When the driver finally showed up I asked what took so long, and he said if I had a problem I could get out of his cab. WTF?! I wasn't about to get out because it was hard enough finding a company that took credit card in JC, so I gave him my address and he said I'd have to tell him how to get there. Ummmm.... Received a Quote online and called to verify what the total charges would be with Tolls, etc. I was immediately put on hold. When the gentleman came back on the line I was given a completely different Quote. When I questioned why it was a different amount I was abruptly interrupted and put on hold again. The gentleman came back on the line again he didn't have an explanation why the amounts were different. I asked him to verify the pick up and drop off address, again I was interrupted and put on hold a third time. Then the gentleman came back on the line and asked me what my phone number was. I told him the number and the travelers name. The gentleman rudely raised his voice and said , I need the traveler phone number. I told him it is the same phone I just gave you. I mentioned there is no need to raise your voice or be rude to me. The gentlemen stated I am not rude. I stated. I wont be needing your service and will take my business elsewhere. He yelled into the phone, "Ok Good Luck, Sorry your so Impatient!" Needless to say I just hung up and thank goodness I was shown what poor customer service this company offers.
