My son had seen this place on a recent visit to the area and wanted to try it. Since I was in town, he picked me up at my hotel and we drove over to check it out one Friday morning. Note that the sign is on the outside of the building, and if you have online orders, you can (and should!) use the ourside pick-up window. If you're walking up, though, you need to enter the Edgewater Public Market (tip: the door to the left is the closest to the bakery if you're standing in front of the pick-up window and realize that you need to go inside) All of the pastries and breads looked very good, but both of us decided on a cinnamon roll. We both enjoyed the rolls at a table in the market across from the bakery. It is a very light cinnamon roll (think of laminated croissant-like dough) with just enough cinnamon and frosting. If you want a more "bread" cinnamon roll like at the famous chain shops, these are not the same. I'd imagine that these have half the calories as well (at least, I am telling myself that!) Frankly, I expect I would have been happy with anything, including the pastry with pickle slices on it. I hadn't had coffee yet, so I was not in a place to remember to take a picture (sorry!)... but it looked really nice and if the cinnamon roll wasn't practically YELLING my name, my natural inclination would have been to get the "weirdest thing" on the menu (according to my family's years of data). It is called "the pretty pickle" : house made pickle, focaccia crumbs, paprika crema and pickled shallots on puff dough. If you look for it on Instagram, I am sure you'll find a picture. Along those lines, I ordered an Astro Fuel Latte. The sign was hand written, so I may have missed a few ingredients, but this is what I remember: espresso with with condensed milk and a touch of black pepper. It was very sweet and creamy with a little bite of pepper on the back end. Think Vietnamese coffee with a little kick. read more

Black Box has been on my list for awhile so I decided to finally treat myself. I was working from Edgewater Public Market (huzzah for free wifi!) and stopped here for a sweet treat and coffee. Being afternoon, a few items were sold out and went with the orange poppyseed cake/loaf/thing. Dense AF, this bad boy was full of flavor and made for excellent breakfast the next day as well. Denver has a few viral bakeries and this is one of them. Black Box opened just before COVID and they are still rocking it. Located at the Edgewater Public Market, Black Box is a bakery and coffee shop counter that crafts some of the most sought after pastries in the metro area. My advice? Get there early to avoid disappointment! I was here yesterday, a Monday around 11am. There were only two people ahead of me. They have a nice display of pastries to gaze upon while you wait. Cue the flavor jets! I go to a lot of coffee shops and order a lot of ham and cheese croissants. There's is a pretzel croissant and it looked delicious! The woman in front of me ended up ordering the last one...which was a dagger to my bleeding heart. I'm more of a savory person than sweet, so I had to adjust in real time. I landed on the carrot cake croissant. Was it what I wanted? No. Was it yummy? Absolutely! Creamy, flaky, nutty, it was really tasty. If you're anywhere in the area, Edgewater Public Market is a must visit. Black Box is one of the standout businesses inside. And when I said viral at the beginning of this review, I mean it! We came about 30 mins before they closed and got their tiramisu mini cube and the lemon meringue cruffin. Even at the end, their pastry was still light, flaky, crispy and delicious. Their version of tiramisu was a refined bite-sized tiramisu cube layered with mascarpone English cream and a rich coffee cremeux. Topped with a delicate English cream decoration and a dusting of cocoa powder. And the lemon meringue cruffin - Laminated brioche dough filled with a luscious blend of English cream and lemon curd. This place went viral for its "cube" (which was very tasty) but honestly it should have gone viral for their cinnamon roll!!!! By far the best cinnamon roll I have EVER had!! Edgewater Public Market has sooo many delicious food and drink spots, and Black Box Bakery is now one of my favorites! I'm rarely here on the weekends or during weekdays (which is when they're open) but finally made it out with a friend who happened to be in town. It's a small shop where the line can get long for good reason. We both ordered a ton of pastries, as well as the last Egg Salad Sandwich they had available. The BEST Egg Salad Sandwich I've ever had for sure. I still dream about it. Loved all the unique pastries as well. They're even on display so you have plenty of time to decide what you want. Absolutely phenomenal! We got soooo many to try and each flavor is completely stand alone and amazing. The savory options are super complex and delicious. Worth the calories and our new gold standard for pastries We were visiting Colorado from Sacramento for a Red Rocks show and decided to explore the local food scene. Back home we're loyal to Faria Bakery, so we were curious to see how Colorado's best compared. My girlfriend found Black Box Bakery on Yelp, and we figured we'd stop by for breakfast. That first morning sealed it. We ended up going back every other day of our trip. Between the two of us, we tried six different pastries, and not a single one missed. Every croissant was perfectly laminated with crisp layers, light air pockets, and buttery flavor. The fillings were balanced...never overly sweet, always flavorful. Our absolute favorite was the orange jasmine swirl, but honestly, every pastry stood on its own. On our last day we couldn't resist bringing back eight more pastries to take home so our foodie friends could experience them too. The staff were incredibly helpful in providing guidance on which of the remaining pastries should make the cut. I'm so happy I also got to try their Chocolate Chip cookie (not something I would've picked!) Don't tell Faria, but we might actually like Black Box Bakery more. read more

I visited this spot in Edgewater Marketplace around 10:00 AM, and some pastries were already sold out--which says a lot about how popular it is. They offer a great selection of both savory and sweet pastries, and everything on display looked absolutely scrumptious. Truly the best bakery in CO. We drive up from Colorado Springs to come here specifically. We've been to so many bakeries in CO and we keep coming back to Black box for the fun flavor and inventive combinations of their croissants. Service is always quick and friendly. Unique and creative croissants! They're delicious and fun. They can be very over baked- almost burnt feeling and very crumbly. But they are overall fantastic! I wish there was less colors/ more natural coloring, but they're a fun treat. read more

Returned to try some of the pastries and was not disappointed! They have classics which are always on the menu as well as rotating specials (both sweet and savory). The variety made it difficult to choose, but I ended up with a pretzel ham and cheese croissant, a strawberry milk croissant, and the garlic UAP. All were 10/10 delicious. The croissants were buttery, light, and flaky. The strawberry croissant had an amazing strawberry yogurt cremeux filling that was not too sweet or heavy, but complemented the pastry perfectly. The garlic UAP is another must-order. It is a fluffy, soft bun stuffed with garlic cream cheese and is an amazing rendition of garlic bread. They can have quite a line on the weekends, so I would recommend ordering online for pickup at their outdoor window if you know what you want to order. read more

Purposely was looking for a bakery on a Saturday morning, and it brought us to black box bakery relocated at the Edgewater market. It was easy to find because they also have a window to the outside for service, but I don't think it was open at the time so it was OK because we went inside and got to discover everything else at the market. We got in line at the bakery, and I have to say the man who helped us was so friendly and patient and super helpful. He even sold us on their version of a Coffee slushy, which by the way was absolutely delicious because it truly tasted like coffee and not like sugar. The menu of this place is the sample food items out on a table right in front of the cash register. I don't think they're edible. They're purely pieces of art, and when you order these items, they literally look like the display. The strawberry cream croissant was out of this damn world. This was absolutely ridiculously amazing that I devoured it, which I do not normally do with any croissant. But this was incredible!!! We also got the honey koign aman at the recommendation of the gentlemen at the register because they do have different flavors of this. My mom enjoyed this incredibly and she is a connoisseur of koign aman. Made a stop after church on Sunday, what a delight! This little spot tucked in the Edgewater Public Market is an absolute treasure. Even with a daunting line, the service was speedy and friendly! The store front is very inviting with a "physical menu" - a bar with all the pastries laid out in plain sight! There were so many enticing options that it was almost impossible to choose. They had everything from sweet delicacies to savory bites. Since I was having a hard time choosing, I ordered several things! I chose the pretzel ham & cheese croissant, the pizza focaccia bread, and the monkey bread croffin. I know, ambitious, but I shared with my sister and brother-in-law! I also ordered a vanilla bean lemonade. Service was super friendly and prompt. Jacob answered all my questions, gave me great suggestions, and was an amazing presence in the store! I got my food and drink quickly. We sat down to eat inside. I started with the pizza focaccia which was HUGE! It was so big that the four of us shared it, each coming away with a substantial chunk of tasty bread covered in tomato sauce and yummy cheese. Then, I moved on to the pretzel ham & cheese croissant, which was also very good. I had never had a pretzel croissant before! I was so full after eating my savory selections that I saved the monkey bread for later (which was a perfect snack after my hike). The vanilla bean lemonade was refreshing and the vanilla cut the tartness of the lemonade, making it a bit more sweet - a must try, in my opinion! My sister, brother-in-law, and buddy all ordered different items and each of us was super happy with our order, meaning, I don't think you can go wrong at Black Box Bakery! Super disappointing experience, we used the vending machine for faster service since the bakery looked busy. Vending machine wasn't stocked with coffee, and thanks to the cashier with glasses for checking. Unfortunately for the person "guiding and helping" her was super unprofessional, she has red hair baseball cape. We asked the refund and she assured me I'd get one automatically in 24hours and said "I could check", umm no you should check... I literally paid for zero product and the worst part it's my first impression of the business. I doubt I'll ever be back, and I'll just contest the charge if I don't see the refund tomorrow. Black Box was even greater than we expected! All of the pastries were spectacular, fresh, and felt incredibly high quality. You can tell they know exactly what they're doing. Both savory croissants were awesome. The hot honey was sweet and delicious and the sausage tasted great. The bagel scallion pastry was almost overstuffed with cream cheese, but in a good way!! The sweet ones were amazing as well. My favorite was the Nutella spaceship, as it had little brownie bites and I think cinnamon? The strawberry was good too, but had a lot going on with both jam and chocolate inside. We'll be back for sure. Oh my goodness, I tried the strawberry milk croissant and it's been my favorite pastry from Blackbox. I dream of it. The ube mini cube was a cool concept but thought it was rather small for the price. They have some fun flavors and concepts. Located in Edgewater Public Market. There's usually a line over the weekends. Double check their hours too since they're closed on Tuesdays or until sold out. They post their rotating menu on Instagram. I decided to grab a croissant and cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was amazing. I didn't even realize it was made with flaky pastry dough. I loved it. Can't say enough good things about this bakery. The staff is extremely inviting and nice . You can tell they all love baking , and even though they have been there for hours they are always enthusiastic. The baked goods, there way too many items to mention. You should try as much as you can. The ambiance is that of mix use space so nothing impressive as you order and take your own seats in the shared space of the marketplace . My favorite almond croissant in Denver. Not that I've had them all, but this one is consistently delicious and the almond paste is my most liked, including over places like Get Rights or Izzio Bakery. The lines are usually pretty long on the weekends but I try to bypass by ordering online and picking up from their outside window. Pretty convenient. I also take my croissant and just eat it in where all the tables are, so there's definitely plenty of space to hang and eat, especially if early in the morning before the rest of the food hall opens up. I haven't tried much of the rest of items. The croissant cinnamon roll is good if they have it but I'm more of a traditional when it comes to those. So disappointed, went yesterday for my birthday, my friend and I both bought a cinnamon roll and coffee. Coffee was bitter and the cinnamon roll was drowning in a sugar glaze so much so that it had a pool of sugar glaze all over it and no cinnamon flavor at all. Will never go back! read more
