Ventured down to Manotick and was not disappointed. This cute bistro has a large outdoor patio that is mostly covered so it is nice and shady. I had to go inside to be greeted, which was a bit confusing as the sign out front said to wait to be seated. Regardless, I was able to walk up and get a nice patio table. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with shoestring fries. I also requested the creamy peppercorn sauce be on the side. I ended up mixing the creamy sauce with the hot sauce and it was an excellent choice. The fries were shoestring (one of my favourites), but were only semi-crispy. Next time I will ask them to be made extra crispy...just the way I like em. Definitely recommend a stop if you're in Manotick. read more

Shout out to Shelly and Karen were extra special to us and with Service Dog Kona from Rockport, MA. Was a special surprise to see her previous k9 pic of Sgt Rey on the outside wall at exit. A beautiful restaurant, beloved in Manotick. The server, Dan, was wonderful. I have never been impressed by the food. The menu rarely changes, and is not very creative. Tonight: the med chicken wrap was very dull. No flavour, no crispness or texture. I have had better at Subway. The fries were soggy, and the bowl holding them had arugula stuck to it. No one at the table had arugula, so this was, simply, a dirty bowl. My guests each had a caesar. One did not have the croutons included. There was a paucity of dressing. All said, very disappointing (again) for $115. read more

It doesn't look like much from the outside but you'll be pleasantly surprised by the inside. The food is great. The service was friendly and good. What a great place in a beautiful area in Ontario! Manotick is a wonderful place and The Black Dog Bistro is excellent! They have 2 patios, the front one by the street and the back patio that we were at. It's much quieter in the back compared to the front and then of coarse they have a good sized interior space as well. It's quite a large place but that didn't slow down the service, our experience here was nothing but exceptional! Right away I noticed the food orders coming out and wow, the different dishes looked good! Food and drink was great and our server was personable and very efficient. He made our visit fun and I really enjoyed the charcuterie board. I had a couple Perth Breweries IPA and I really enjoyed them. One thing tho you must know, if you order a Caesar they don't use Motts Clamato but a more organic one with no msg which of coarse is a good thing but you have to know it does not taste the same. My wife wasn't a fan. But outside of that everything was great. If your in the area that's definitely a stop for at least a snack and refreshing beverage like we had! read more

I like the black dog bistro. They have been one of my favourite date night spot. However my experience this time was not what I expected. I have to start with the good they serve one of the best drink. Made with fig that they make at this location. It was not available, that's OK and understandable as we have not had restaurants open for a while. I ordered a cocktail that was ok the lockdown one. I looked at the menu wanted to try something new and since I'm gluten intolerant I'm like let me order some chicken wings. Seems like that would be one of the option that would not come with bread or flour. Turns out the are breeded, I could not eat them but, I should have doubled check. I just think they should mention it in the menu. Then we ordered steak both were cooked wrong. We both ordered Medium rare, when we cut the steak it was blue not cooked at all in the middle. The food was also not warm. Again this could be because they have just reopened. However not a very pleasant Experience for this type of spot. read more

Always a crowd pleaser! The Black Dog is a Manotick staple: beloved by locals and adored by visitors. I haven't been in years, but I came here the other day to have lunch with my grandparents and was pleased to see it still holds up. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday afternoon around 2pm. Service was fast and friendly and I was delighted to discover the menu has been updated with a few more vegetarian options. (Veggies: our work here is done.) This time around, my grandma and I both ordered the Black Dog Grilled Sandwich: melted brie, pear, and mango chutney with a side of fries. It was delicious, though the chutney was so subtle, I wasn't sure I had any on mine! Either way, a great lunch and would order it again for sure. Gramps went for the sandwich of the day: some sort of overflowing pulled pork masterpiece that he took to cutting with a fork and knife! He didn't talk much through that meal so I think it's safe to say he enjoyed it! Black Dog is a great spot for an outing with family, but still works for the younger crowd to enjoy brunch or drinks on the weekend. I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at the wonderful Black Dog Bistro in Manotick. My first impression was the very friendly staff that greeted me. I ordered the lamp shank, which was absolutely divine. It was fall-off-the bone, full of flavour, and very appetizing. The sauce that it was served with was unbelievably splendid. Decided to take a day trip to Manotick since it was a nice and sunny weekend day. The bistro was the busiest spot on the whole main street. We were greeted by a friendly staff and seated on a semi outdoors patio. There's still no indoor dining. The menu is fairly large with plenty of options for all tastes - appetizers, drinks, etc. I decided to play it safe and ordered a crispy chicken burger. While waiting I observed the tables around and all the dishes were quite tasty looking. My burger came with a salad and got some sweet potato fries on the side. Not gonna lie, everything tasted delicious. The portion was large since i had no space for any desert in the end. Service was also some of the best I've had in a very long time. I guess it's good to know restaurants can still offer quite good food and service despite the pandemic. Only prices went up, but sadly it's inevitable. read more

I finally came back to Black Dog for a full meal, and it was fantastic! We were seated right by the beautiful fireplace, and it was super cozy and lovely. Our server was really friendly and helpful, but it took a long time for us to get our orders taken. However, once our food finally arrived it was divine. I split the fried calamari with one of my girlfriends, and it was perfect. A great seasoning and texture along with a tangy mustard dip made it one of the best calamari dishes I've had. I also had a wonderful Riesling here (though I can't remember what it was called!) that was perfectly chilled. For my main I went with a fairly safe bet - the club wrap. You would think a wrap might be boring, but this was so fresh and flavourful it was fantastic. The sweet potato fries were also excellent and served with a slightly spicy mayo that made that even more tasty! The food and atmosphere here are phenomenal, and our server was sweet, but I had to take off a star for having to wait so long for our order to be taken and our food to be brought out. I went to the Black Dog with my family, and we enjoyed our time there. I ordered a burger with bacon and cheese, and it was a standard, good burger (came with fries). I would call this place your "standard restaurant experience". The atmosphere and artwork of the place was an... interesting mix of rustic-meets-classical, to include various artwork pieces of dogs. Arrived for an 8:our reservation (they chose an odd time) and were told our reservation was for another time than they gave us on the phone and we'd have to wait. Despite that, staff were warm, helpful and accommodating... except for the manager, who was argumentative at the end of the meal when we mentioned what had happened. Food is good but not great. The French onion soup is a bit off somehow, but everything else was quite enjoyable. Simple but yummy desserts. Very good wine list without being at all pretentious or overpriced. read more

Make sure you make a reservation as it's most often packed. I think it's a perfect spot for dinner for two or a evening out with another couple. We stopped here for lunch last week. It is one of the more popular places in Manotick and there were no unreserved tables inside. Fortunately, there were a number of tables outside. The service was prompt and friendly. As we were in a bit of a rush, my sister ordered a Tandoori salad with chicken and curried chick peas. Our server was friendly and prompt in serving. Unfortunately the food was not great. The food price and the food quality did not match. My salad had grilled chicken on it that was so dry that my knife bounced off it. The asparagus was way over cooked. It was yellow and limp. The kale was bitter and limp. It was not fresh!! My husbands dinner was not much better in the Cubano . I ordered a glass of wine. I didn't know they had 2 sizes. The waiter didn't mention and brought me the larger fill. Incredibly delicious food. I recommend the charcuterie board and ribs. Great ambiance and decor. Service was very slow though. I understand it was busy that night but after being seated we waited at least 5-10 mins to even just get acknowledged by our server. Once the board came in it took a whole hour before the rest of our food to come. We were literally picking at the last morsels off the board to pass the time. One of the best restaurant experience I've had in a long time. Situated in the quiet and friendly town of Manotick, this bistro is a great place to hangout after sports. On this occasion, I went alone for a meal and sat at the bar. Jane - my server was incredibly polite, welcoming and cheerful. Since I was sitting alone at the bar, various staff came and chatted with me and asked how everything was. I ordered an Apple Martini, along with Farm Chicken stuff w/goat cheese. Jane was very quick with the martini and the main course took about 10-12 minutes to prepare. The chicken was moist and the wild rice pilaf with veggies were a great compliment. A White Russian to finish and indulge my sweet-tooth. Quaint, friendly and delicious. Can't ask for a better meal. This has been a pretty regular site for our date nights and is a place we take our family and friends and out of town guests. We enjoy just about everything. When I first moved to barrhaven, I thought my fate was sealed. Trips to Costco, Loblaws or the movie theatre were now going to be the new normal. There were periods where I'd go downtown maybe once a month, sometimes not at all. And then, a recommendation came out of nowhere to go the black dog bistro in Manotick. My "downtown" friends were excited that they'd venture to the "country" while my wife and I were probably even more excited knowing that this place is only 10 minutes away :) I think I'm reasonable and sometimes too forgiving with my reviews, but this place deserves a 10/10. Truly one of the best meals I've had in my 8 years in Ottawa. I had the beef short rib and it literally melted in your mouth. It's a seasonal dish so it's not always there, but it should be because it's just THAT good. Atmosphere is cool - looks like fine dining downstairs, and upstairs there's another dining room that's more casual and there's also this cubby room that's private. That's where we sat. I was dining with clients and the restaurant was very conducive and accommodating to our business needs. They have a nice selection of beer, wine and liquors.
