    Mushroom Schnitzel
    Sadee P.

I have been coming here since I was little and it is just as special as an adult! I really love the decoration of the building and interior. Even if your food takes a while to arrive the ambience makes the time fly and you almost want it to take a few minutes extra to really enjoy your time here. I always get the mushroom Schnitzel and a soup of the day. Both are delicious- best schnitzel I've found in Canada and the sides pair so well with it. This time we didn't get to have dessert but I know their cheesecake is amazing! It's a little expensive but what can you do in this economy. A little tip is to make a reservation ahead and avoid wearing athletic gear or hats if you can per the restaurant request- it does help with the overall atmosphere.

Kind of disappointed. Had been told how good this place was so was looking forward to it. Pleasant atmosphere but not much authentic German cuisine on the menu. Lots of twists on it but not truly Bavarian food.

The front of the building! What a fun looking place. There's a little creek and garden our front.

A fun place to see with the family! Albeit a little on the pricy side. I'm general, an overall pretty alright experience. The food was good but the portions were a little... "little" for the price. In any case, after parking you head up a few stairs, past a water feature and flower garden. As you walk through the large wooden (possibly hand crafted!) door, you're immediately greeted by welcoming staff who take you to an open table. The staff all wear fun, German themed outfits/uniforms that really do help visitors enjoy the experience! We tried a variety of things to make sure we covered the menu. The only item we didn't get to try was seafood, in particular the salmon soup. It was described to us as, "if you're a fan of salmon you'll love it! Otherwise, it's mighty strong." A nearby table had it and was quite impressed with it! The majority (if not all of the menu items) are made locally in house, from the red cabbage to sauerkraut, the available soups to the Black Forest cake. While on the topic of Black Forest cake... it looks lovely and tasted fine... however I had expected it to be THE Black Forest cake of all Black Forest cakes (the restaurant is ACTUALLY named "The Black Forest". Alas, it was not. The slice was fairly small for $10.50 and I'm not sure there was a single whole cherry anywhere. I was somewhat expecting a fifth of a full cake to be honest. But, to be fair, it was very flavourful and the cherry sauce on the plate was a wonderfully delicious addition. As for the building itself, there is plenty to see from the great artwork of Alfred Temmel to the taxidermised wildlife. There is even a room in the centre of the building with a hardwood "dance floor" that you can whisper up into then the sound bounces back and can be clearly heard by those underneath the dome! Dance it up while you're there. Great fun! I'm glad we went but can't say we'd make an effort to go again, but don't take my word for it.

Fantastic schnitzel and wurst! Great menu with fantastic variety. The decor is 100% Germany. It like stepping off the plane into Berlin. I had the Bavarian platter with an Escargot starter. Everything was so good and very authentic. I finished off the night with the Black Forest cake. It was very light, but flavourful.

Really happy we stopped in here last weekend! The service was excellent, our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and you could tell she genuinely loved working here! I had the steak and prawns and requested grilled prawns instead of breaded, and they were excellent. My husband had the filet mignon and he said it was cooked perfectly. My NY strip was also cooked to a perfect medium rare, and the side portions were both generous and delicious. The French onion soup was very good as well. Overall, it was a bit pricey (around the same as the Keg), but I feel it was definitely worth it, considering the excellent service, delicious food and very generous portion sizes. We look forward to coming back here again.

We got the Parmesan Herb Schnitzel and The Big Sampler. The schnitzel had a flavorful breading that provided a nice crunchy texture to the veal, and the sauce took the flavor to the next level. The spätzle was okay... it needed a little more salt and had too much butter. The Big Sampler did not disappoint and offered a taste of everything. They ran out of pork chop late in the evening, so it was replaced with a pork hock. The sauerkraut, cabbage, and mustards paired nicely with the sausage and pork hock, offering a sweet and tangy break to my palette. The pork hock was tender and fell right off the bone. And while this is the least exciting thing on the plate, the fries were still made to perfection! Service was excellent and accommodating to dietary restrictions, and the outdoor ambience offered a beautiful view of the charming town and surrounding mountains.

Our server seemed a bit hurried. She was out of breath and not super friendly. They have a wide variety of options on the menu. We decided on the Cordon Bleu schnitzel with chicken instead of pork ($3 upgrade), jagerspatzle and a cup of their mushroom soup. The food was delicious! The chicken Cordon Bleu was the overall hit. My husband really enjoyed the Dunkel beer. I ordered the chocolate mousse, but was disappointed as it tasted like a Jello pudding mix chocolate. Not the rich dark chocolate mousse I'm used to. Overall a nice experience. The music playing in the restaurant was a German song on repeat! It played the entire time we were there...yikes! I politely recommend they get an entire album with a variety of songs. I loved the German themed music, but one song playing over and over again was annoying.

Two members of our group ordered the chicken Alfredo, and both dishes arrived with little to no Alfredo sauce. They both agreed it tasted terrible. I started with the prawn appetizer, which included four prawns that were decent, but the rest of the dish lacked flavor and wasn't enjoyable. For my main course, I ordered the Steak Neptune and requested it cooked medium rare. It arrived medium instead. While the steak itself tasted good, it was more done than I had asked for. My son ordered the chicken parmigiana and said it tasted like it had been microwaved--it was hot in some spots, cold in others, and overall just mediocre. Another member of our group ordered a medium-well steak but received it well done. She said it was okay, but not what she ordered. The remaining steaks ordered medium also arrived well done, so there seemed to be a consistent issue with the kitchen getting steak temperatures right. Service from our waitress was the highlight of the evening. She was friendly, attentive, and did a great job despite the problems coming from the kitchen. Unfortunately, the wait time was also unacceptable. It took about an hour for our meals to arrive after we placed our order, which is far too long. The atmosphere also didn't live up to expectations. It felt more like an inexpensive family restaurant than the higher-end dining experience the restaurant appears to market itself as. Overall, this was a very disappointing meal, especially for a family celebration. Between the long wait, inconsistent cooking, and poor quality of several dishes, I won't be returning. There are many better restaurants in the area that offer better food, better value, and a much more enjoyable dining experience.

Having only one waiter isn't an issue if the interactions make up for it but it feels like they see a lot of tourists so they're going through the motions. The schnitzels appear to be the thing to order, as others enjoyed those. I had the venison, which the waiter asked for a cook temp (med rare) but delivered well done. It also stated it would have chanterelles but instead came with button mushrooms. The waiter didn't come back to check in for over 15 minutes so I couldn't even raise the issue. At that point, it felt unhelpful. If the menu item has altered, tell guests before they order, especially when it's for such a less expensive ingredient. And don't ask for a cook temp if you can't meet it. Wouldn't return given the price point. Better restaurants in the area.

The Alpine Cheese Fondue was pretty good but to me not worth the price...they had small fondue pots to share and the cheese went quickly while we had a pile of vegetables and other dipping ingredients left. We also had one of our fondue pots go out after the server noticed it was 'too hot' and apparently turned it off. When we asked a different server minutes later for help getting it on again, they said nothing while fiddling with it and left the table. It would have been good to acknowledge it was 'good to go' or have them show us how to operate them in case it goes out again...but no, just fiddled and left. I ordered the Steelhead Trout for dinner and it comes with zucchini, capers and a dill sauce. It was quite good and would order again in the future. For dessert we had the chocolate fondue fountains which came with strawberries, marshmallows, cookies, banana bread and more. The chocolate fountain was great but after the cheese fondue and main course, I couldn't stomach too many bites. The worst part of the night was the service. The two main servers politely asked us to 'not move around' after seating so we don't mess up their system. Even though noboby moved, most of the checks were incorrect- we got each other's bills, we got charged for items we didn't order, etc. After we called attention to it...the hostess or manager came out and grumpily grabbed the incorrect bills, crumpled them up and left. About 10min later, she came back out with the updated bills...where a few were still incorrect. She started barking out that they were still missing a drink and another order and was asking around who had it. At this point when our table has paid $1000+ for the meal and you've messed up 2xs and made us wait 15min, you should probably just eat the $30 of food and drink missing as a courtesy. Nope, this cranky manager was practically blaming us for them not having a good system and accountability. Unfortunately, based on the service and the price vs. value of the food, I cannot recommend this place.
