Haven't ate here since our honeymoon 24 years ago and wasn't nearly as popular back then, no…read morereservations required. - It's busy but the service was good, you get a little starter of bread and butters - Ordered two varieties of schnitzels, one came with potatoes, the other with spaetzel. Both were good, but had their flaws. -The schnitzel Scandinavia was dry but the sauce was very good. -The Traditional breaded pork cutlet I had was very good but I found the sauce was too lemon forward for my liking. -The spaetzel was good, I like a little less nutmeg. -The cabbage was spot on and very flavorful. Overall a good experience but be sure to make reservations early as they didn't have many spots available and we saw them turn people away.

It's been a few years since I've been to Fairmont and ate at the Black Forest restaurant. Have had…read morethe Schnitzel Champigon and at that time it had a dark mushroom sauce which I loved and remembered. Last year when we came I had ordered the same Schnitzel but it came with a bearnaise sauce and I didn't enjoy it because of the taste. So this year on Wednesday May 20th I had asked the waitress if I could have a different gravy (should have said sauce). I was told that they didn't have that. When I said they used to she informed me it has NEVER come with that type of sauce. To me it felt like she was arguing the point with me. She then said do you want another server and I said no that's fine. She walked away and a short time later another waitress (Grace) came to serve us. The first waitress obviously didn't want to serve me and I felt this very insulting. I then ordered the Special which was the meatloaf, which had the type of sauce (gravy) I was asking for. Which was very delicious. If it wasn't for the very pleasant young girl who met and seated us at our table and Grace, the experience was very unpleasant and upsetting to a point that I was not going to come back.

Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday at opening. Made reservations over the phone. Seated as soon as…read morewe walked in. The interior and exterior is in Austrian decor. Super cute! Our server seemed a bit hurried. She was out of breath and not super friendly. They have a wide variety of options on the menu. We decided on the Cordon Bleu schnitzel with chicken instead of pork ($3 upgrade), jagerspatzle and a cup of their mushroom soup. The food was delicious! The chicken Cordon Bleu was the overall hit. My husband really enjoyed the Dunkel beer. I ordered the chocolate mousse, but was disappointed as it tasted like a Jello pudding mix chocolate. Not the rich dark chocolate mousse I'm used to. Overall a nice experience. The music playing in the restaurant was a German song on repeat! It played the entire time we were there...yikes! I politely recommend they get an entire album with a variety of songs. I loved the German themed music, but one song playing over and over again was annoying.

We recently dined here with a family group of eight, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing…read moreexperience. The biggest issue was the food. Two members of our group ordered the chicken Alfredo, and both dishes arrived with little to no Alfredo sauce. They both agreed it tasted terrible. I started with the prawn appetizer, which included four prawns that were decent, but the rest of the dish lacked flavor and wasn't enjoyable. For my main course, I ordered the Steak Neptune and requested it cooked medium rare. It arrived medium instead. While the steak itself tasted good, it was more done than I had asked for. My son ordered the chicken parmigiana and said it tasted like it had been microwaved--it was hot in some spots, cold in others, and overall just mediocre. Another member of our group ordered a medium-well steak but received it well done. She said it was okay, but not what she ordered. The remaining steaks ordered medium also arrived well done, so there seemed to be a consistent issue with the kitchen getting steak temperatures right. Service from our waitress was the highlight of the evening. She was friendly, attentive, and did a great job despite the problems coming from the kitchen. Unfortunately, the wait time was also unacceptable. It took about an hour for our meals to arrive after we placed our order, which is far too long. The atmosphere also didn't live up to expectations. It felt more like an inexpensive family restaurant than the higher-end dining experience the restaurant appears to market itself as. Overall, this was a very disappointing meal, especially for a family celebration. Between the long wait, inconsistent cooking, and poor quality of several dishes, I won't be returning. There are many better restaurants in the area that offer better food, better value, and a much more enjoyable dining experience.

Having only one waiter isn't an issue if the interactions make up for it but it feels like they see a lot of tourists so they're going through the motions. The schnitzels appear to be the thing to order, as others enjoyed those. I had the venison, which the waiter asked for a cook temp (med rare) but delivered well done. It also stated it would have chanterelles but instead came with button mushrooms. The waiter didn't come back to check in for over 15 minutes so I couldn't even raise the issue. At that point, it felt unhelpful. If the menu item has altered, tell guests before they order, especially when it's for such a less expensive ingredient. And don't ask for a cook temp if you can't meet it. Wouldn't return given the price point. Better restaurants in the area.
