This was my 20th stop on the Indie Bookstore Passport tour. It sells used and rare books. The stacks here felt curated and well organized, which I appreciated. Often times a used bookstore chooses to organize in a somewhat random fashion, so their eye to detail and curation is welcomed. The wood tones and lighting here were cozy. Cute used bookstore in the Northeast neighborhood! I went in just to browse and found that they have a very well organized selection of books. I specifically browsed the sci-fi, fantasy and YA sections, but also appreciated the graphic novels, handmade pottery and old bound books. The store clerk was friendly, and the store was just a short walk from other local spots. Easy street parking is available. The two paperback books I purchased which were both in "very good" condition were $5 each (and they took credit cards). read more

Wow! Where do I start: the building is beautiful! Large windows allow sunlight to stream in and you'll want to spend time in their lounge doing puzzles and setting down your arm full of selections- because you will find an arm full. Their selection is overwhelming! They feature a variety of local authors that you won't find anywhere else. I love browsing the history section. I found the coolest jackdaw of the Russian revolution. The staff selection in every section is the best of the best. The staff are beyond knowledgeable about any book you can possibly think of- and more you can't! The pricing is cheap and you can buy a brand new book for a fourth of the price you'd pay at any chain like Barnes and noble. They also have cards and paintings and original map prints. You'll need to give yourself an hour (at least) to browse. Get lost in this utopia for bookworms! read more

Such an enormous selection to choose from! I spent well over an hour here browsing the shelves and checking out pottery and other such items from local artists that have displays in the front. There's a little area with couches that I crashed on with a book for a bit and other chairs scattered about inviting customers to slow down. The owner is super knowledgeable about the stuff he has in the store and it was great to hear the conversations from the regulars. Not that I was eavesdropping, but you could definitely tell that Eat, Pray, Love was not a huge winner with them. One of the best bookstores the Twin Cities has to offer. read more

I've been to more bookstores than I can count, but Eat My Words is definitely in my top three. I visited not long after I moved to Minnesota, and I'm so happy I found this place! Huge selection of books in a quiet place, so it's nice for browsing and skimming before you decide if you want to buy something. Their fiction section is phenomenal, and everything is priced cheaper than you'd find online (except the limited edition or rare, old copies of certain books). I found a signed copy of Justice Sotomayor's biography for $8! They also have a little box at the front with free stuff that comes out of the books (random letters, bookmarks, etc.) and stock cool local literature/art. I overheard the owner telling some customers that one of the magazines was a project of his friend's who teaches a writing class to developmentally disabled people in the area. The owner is also super friendly and helpful without making you feel bad for wandering around for hours. Felt very at home in this bookstore; will be coming back soon and often read more

Nice bookstore in NE Minneapolis neighborhood, full of books and pottery to actually feel before buying. Comfy chair to sit down in and check the books out. I love this neighborhood local bookstore (just wish it were closer to my house so I could bike ride here). Eat My Words Bookstore was active in the 13th Avenue Halloween celebration, donating children's books with the candy. Way to go EMWB, encourage another generation of readers! read more

There is nothing I love more than finding a hidden gem like this book store. My family and I were visiting from out of town, helping my sister move into her new home. We had a little down time and decided to check out a few used book stores. I walked in and felt transported back in time. I LOVED the locals section, with people from the area having the opportunity to showcase their books and art. (This particularly found a special place in my heart because my sister is at the U getting her masters in Fine Arts). I found a great book, a great chair, and a great breeze flowing through one of the open doors. I could've easily stayed all day and gotten lost in the magic that surrounded me. read more

This is one the coolest bookstores I've visited in awhile. Local artists tend to be displayed and there are community events. It's a pleasure just to browse and see the beautiful covers of days gone by in the world of publishing. Some books are collectors items and are very pricey. Most are more than reasonable and there is a particularly good selection of hobbies and music including sheet music on top of a piano in the backroom, and yes you may play the piano. The owner is a book lover and it shows and he'll talk about any subject and the books related, you have to love people and knowledge to run a business like this. I went to the grand opening. I'd say this is a med. size, not ridiculously small or half-price large. Book cases are in neat rows, and labeled. They have one double row of Agatha Christie and a full single row of Rex Stout. They have a good variety and selection of most genres. So in general it's used books but they'll carry new local authors, which is the perfect combo. I introduced myself to Scott, the owner. This will be a good double destination. A block away you'll be able to check out your new purchases at Maeve's, and have a meal at the Anchor. Since there aren't any restaurants on the 2nd St. block, on street parking is not a problem. read more

Great used bookstore in our neighborhood! I biked down there today to see if they had any used kids books for an upcoming baby shower. They had a whole room full! Stopped in here on a whim before heading over to Matchbox. So glad I did. They are super new- just opened in February 2014, but I can tell they will be successful. There were several people in there browsing on the rainy Saturday afternoon that I stopped in. Medium sized bookstore with a great selection, both buys AND sells used books (so nice for me, notorious book hoarder). I stopped in there to browse, and ended up picking up a fabulous collection of Neruda poems, a replacement copy of my borrowed-and-never-returned-copy of Atwood's Cat's Eye, and a copy of Tea Obreht's The Tigers Wife. And there was so much more that I wanted to pick up. All the sections are well labeled and consistently alphabetized, and there are large, good-quality selections for every category- not always the case in a used bookstore. Their owner (also the buyer) has a good eye and good taste. Speaking of the owner- the service was great. Friendly, but not overly pushy- he gave me time and space to browse, but when I was ready to check out or had a question, he was kind, funny, and interesting. We had a great conversation about books and he encouraged me to come back with things to sell (I mentioned my extensive collection of things I hold on to but don't read anymore). There is Matchbox coffee in a pot, and a crockpot of chili or stew (!!!) on hand for customers to stay and read a while. I will definitely be back. read more

The first time I went to this bookstore, I was grumbling to my friend about how the place didn't have a big enough selection of cheesy sci-fi and horror paperbacks. The owner overhead me and directed me to a massive pile at the front of the store that he hadn't had a chance to shelf yet. I found a few lurid gems. For a place so new, they have a large, well-rounded selection. I could still use more horror and sci-fi, but I'm weird. I don't know if I've seen a bigger children's book section at a used book store around here, but I don't really look for children's books very often. Here though, they are all located in a really rad lounge in the back of the store, which also serves as a nice little spot for readings. They've also got a cool section up front with zines and books by local authors. I'll be stopping back regularly to look for the weird stuff. read more

This place is really cool! A lot of older vintage books. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars because there wasn't any music or much noise so it felt a little awkward searching for books, like I was on the top floor of a library lol. But I'd definitely come back! read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great selection of classic novellas and more recent releases. The shelves are well organized and easy to locate your favorite writers. It's also not too big and on a simple floor plan as opposed to other bookstores that can seem overwhelming with their cavernous rooms extending throughout.
