Great little spot in Fort William to enjoy some food and drinks in a casual atmosphere. The location is right in town and has a rustic but clean vibe. You order at the bar and they bring food or drinks to your table. People all around seemed to be having a great time and socializing & it's dog friendly. We had a bruschetta and a pizza, both tasty! They have great options for all items including gluten free. The tap list was a good size, ~20 beers and bottles/cans available. Most of the beers were from their brewery but they had guest taps too, and a cider. The NE IPA tasted fresh and citrusy and the cider had more of a sour finish than many ciders of the area. Definitely a great stop on a night out after a day outside!

We stopped here for some beer after exploring the Glencoe area. The atmosphere was very lively and most of the tables were full - it was first come first serve, seat yourself when we visited at least, and you order food and drink at the bar. Between the two of us, we tried the Red Kite red ale, hibernator oatmeal stout, and scotch ale. None stood out to me as being the best beer in its category ever, but they were solid beers. I really liked the glasses and we ended up getting one to take back home. For food, we got the Nduja and honey pizza with honey, red onions and sausage. I really enjoyed the toppings and flavor combination! Overall cool vibes and good eats.

Alas, I get to burst Black Isle's yelp cherry. Black Isle will be very happy that it is I. Yelp, meet Black Isle. A fun outdoorsy town like FW needs a place like BI, where people can mingle in a trendy locale. Imagine if an industrial themed beerhall, intimate wood fired pizza joint, and brewery have a threesome and somehow make a baby. (Whilst babies from threesomes likely make one party angry, this is a harmonious union) Black Isle has a great vibe, fun people, ridiculous beer and great wood fired pizza. I can think of nowhere better to down an entire pizza (yep. Not ashamed. Venison mushroom) and get a little buzzed on great beer after my gnarly summit of Ben Nevis today. If I did not live approximately 3,003 miles away, I would be back. If you want a fun vibe, great pizza and company, +/- pizza, this is your place! (I went to Wetherspoon last night...UGH. Wish I could have come to BI twice)

Pizzas were thin and crispy with delicious toppings. Had the Nduja pizza and venison sausage. Both delicious and well done.

Interestingly, its now owned by Diageo which is known for their Johhnie Walker Blended Whiskey. The distillery is located near fresh spring water and abundant peat from the nearby bogs. It is also the highest distillery in Scotland, sitting in the mountains of the Highlands. The history dates back to the late 18th Century and though its changed owners multiple times you still get a deep sense of tradition. They have aging barrels stained black from generations of whisky sitting around as decoration. 30 Year Old: 11 quid a dram, they told me they are never going to use the specific combination of barrel, temperature, timing so this batch was very special. I finished it so much the glass looked like it was brand new when I gave it back. There's also a large giftshop with clothing, accessories, home goods, foods, and of course a multitude of different Whiskys. They also had an interesting "bottle your own" 12 year with custom label for 130 pounds.

This was a good decision as you never know how long your journey will take while traveling throughout the various parts of Scotland. They have a tasting room inside and many interesting offerings to explore. The prices may seem high at first but it's because they are pouring a lot more than the usual 25ml pour. While they have a lot of flight options, we chose to build our own with options that are only available at the distillery. Why try something you can get elsewhere. I love that they were paired with chocolate. That really set the experience a part. I wish they served smaller portions so you could try more, but it was a good experience and we appreciated the knowledgeable staff!

I'm not sure why the low reviews from other…read morepeople, maybe they didn't do their Scotland research but before coming to the country the first thing I came across was "always make reservations for distilleries". Never assume you can walk in on a tour. Especially for a small town, less well known distillery like this one. Well I emailed them several weeks in advance telling them I'd be coming in on the late train from Glasgow (turns out we came in early) but when we arrived, it seemed like they were going to hold the tour for us. ...how considerate (see what contacting in advance does, I was also interested in a higher priced tour so that might have helped) The basic tour is £5 and includes one whisky sample at the end, but you can upgrade to the tasting tour £18 which includes 3 additional samples (just one of us did it, my hubby was getting tired of whisky samples. ....crazy I know) Both tours are the same, Start with a cute, funny, but outdated and cheesy movie, then move through the distilling process which is both educational and a feast for the senses (does anyone ever get contact drink from all the fumes? ). After the tours we end up in the tasting room where each bottle they offer for sale was explained and we tried their youngest blended whisky. For those of us on the tasting tour we got to sample a 12 year blend, a very Peaty single malt ( made from a middle ages recipe) no longer sold, and their cask strength blended called glen Coe (great bouquet on that one). I ended up wanting to buy something on the sweeter side so they let me sample their blue bottle of dew (smelled fruity and like honey....didn't taste that way though) and I ended up buying that blended bottle as well as another bottle of something else. It's not that well known so if you see their whisky around you'll likely only get to purchase the 10 yr in stores but they have a great variety in their shop. I appreciate how they didn't rush us even though we (and another couple were the last customers) and when we left it had been clear they had been waiting for us to close up and go home. They were very nice and chatted and joked with us about whisky etc. We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this distillery to others.

If you are lucky enough to get him, you will have a very informative tour. Sorry, I don't remember his name. He answered every question, and he was thorough about the production techniques in distilling fine whiskey. Even with our large group, he conveyed interest and pride in Ben Nevis whiskey. I think a tour here depends on getting the right guide. Our guide made the tour for us.

Nothing amazing. I'd call it Scotland's (or wherever it's from) version of Applebee's back in the US. Breakfast was better since it was a buffet but even then a lot of things ran out and I had to ask for them to be replaced because the staff were not doing it right away. Again, food was decent. Don't think I will visit again next time.

This restaurant really needs to get its act together…read more We were staying at the attached Premier Inn, so naturally, this restaurant was to be our go-to when we needed meals. What a huge disappointment. This place is so horribly disorganized. It can take 20-30 minutes waiting in line to order your meal from the bar, because it can take up to 10 minutes for one person to be rung through. Why, I would imagine, is because they seem to have the same person taking orders, pouring drinks, answering the phone, and seating people. Either they're horribly, horribly understaffed or they really poorly plan where their staff are placed during the day. The breakfast we'd bought for them from the Premier Inn was good food-wise, but again, poor, poor planning. One of the days we stayed there, breakfast started being served at 7 and we got there at about 7:05. By the time we got there, all of the meat was already gone. We suspected a really selfish table of dudes with a giant bowl of sausages in the middle of the table, but this place should know by now that, being so close to amazing hiking opportunities, they're going to get a lot of hungry early-risers. It seems they don't even start cooking more food until it runs out, and it takes quite awhile for it to be refilled. The woman working there in the morning was kind to us but seemed to dislike people in general, which made the experience a bit unpleasant. I hate to say it, but while we loved the Premier Inn, I don't know if I'd stay there again knowing their attached restaurant is such a mess. I can't even begin to imagine how much business the Brewers Fayre loses every day due to their poor service.
