I found out about Blacklab on Untappd and went for the beer. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the food is as exceptional as the beer. The Niu Rou, a beef steak with spicy sauce, peanuts, bok choy, egg and sesame ramon that was the best thing I ate in Barcelona. It was perfectly spicy, the was meat tender and the bok choy was fresh. The Blacklab fries were also delicious. My daughter liked her dumplings. The beer was outstanding with a nice variety of styles. Fate is one of those funny things that happens to me sometimes and thank goodness it brought us here! We were supposed to go to Valencia but realized last minute it was too far for just one night. That led to us having more time in Barcelona so as we walked around we found the museum of history for Catalonia. After an hour at the museum, our stomachs said it was lunch time. We decided to walk around and find something and this place was right next door! We were SO happy to find a brewery with American comfort/Asian comfort food. We fell in love with their brut IPA & their Asian ribs and dumplings. We got a flight to try their various craft beers. I was too full to order the ramen but it looked delicious! Live music on Saturdays and an outdoor patio. The vibe is California chill & hipster with great music and seating spaces inside. We had a great time talking to the staff that were super attentive. We had a great experience here! Actually, two great experiences! We went just for a beer after a walk to the beach. We enjoyed the beer, especially the "Brut IPA" which was a new style for me. Finding a craft brewery along the sea in Barcelona was a pleasant surprise. That they served up a dozen home brewed beers and some tasty food was all the more so. There are some creative brews on the menu, ranging from fruity wheats to stouts to pale ales. I went in for dinner and snagged a pint of the Japanese Tea pale ale and a pulled pork sandwich. The ale had hints of jasmine tea for a nicely bitter bite. The pulled pork, slathered in a not too sweet sauce with caramelized onions and pickled jalapeno on a pretzel bun, didn't match the smokey bite of American barbecue but made for a good meal read more

Barcelona didn't seem to be a hot bed for craft beer so my wife and I were stoked when we happened to stumble upon this place near the beach. It opens at 4. We literally waited outside the door for the opening we were so excited to go in. There's definitely a lot of American influence here. The brewery itself is great. I love the Black Dog logo and the design of their cans. I was disappointed the only can available was their Octoberfest. We sat outside in one of their tent areas. The beer was decent. Black Lab was the last stop on our last night in Barcelona. We were traveling with beer industry people and everyone agreed that this spot had all the makings of a great brewery. I personally fell in love with the cans and psychedelic dog logo (tank top, secured!). The cans all feature bright colors and reminded me of the sodas we used to have after school in the 80s. How's the actual product, you ask? Solid! I was only able to try one or two of the offerings but I enjoyed everything I tried. On the hunt for some craft beer in Barcelona we ended up at BlackLab for a brew after finding it on the Yelp app. They had a lot of IPAs...like more than I'm used to seeing... but I found a porter that hit the spot. It was toasty, with some nice roasted notes, good mouthfeel and overall super solid. I also sampled a couple of the others - a red (maybe?) and an IPA. I'm not much for IPAS (although, they are growing on me slowly but surely) and both were good. Super nice staff - the fella behind the bar chatted us up a bit and walked us through the menu. Waved us off as we were headed out. It's always such a huge impact when the staff is friendly - and real basic things can make or break an experience. These guys get it. The brewery is visible from the tap room, behind a long wall of glass. There are various tables and large windows over looking the street. There's also a really cool mural along the two walls of Barcelona with all the notable landmarks painted on it. The feel here is like a cool coffee shop, except they are serving beer instead of cafe. The wife enjoyed some wine as well, so it's nice they have options for the non-beer drinkers. read more

We walked down here from La Rambla when we heard there was a craft beer brewery in Barcelona & wanted to check it out. We opted to sit outside, as there didn't seem to be any A/C inside and it was a lot more warm than out on the patio area. There we out of most of their beers, we did get to try the Rye IPA which was real good, but most of the beers we all had were guest taps. The food menu is very limited. Burgers mainly. The Black Lab burger was OK, but between the 6 of us, most if what was ordered was mediocre at best. Tasteless and bland seemed to be the consensus. I was in Barcelona for three and a half days. I had multiple burgers. BlackLab missed the mark by a mile. We showed up late one night, lured by the rave reviews and the prospect of an Asian-infused brewpub. The reality failed to live up to the hype. We started with the veggie gyoza (5.95 €). For nearly six euro, you get just four tiny dumplings. My fiancee mentioned they tasted like they'd been frozen. I had the BlackLab burger (with beer cheese, carmelized onions, bacon and a portobello mushroom - 14.95 €). The bun was completely flimsy and totally fell apart the minute I tried to pick it up. I hate that. I spent most of my meal shoveling fistfuls of dripping meat into my face with my bare hands. I should also note that BlackLab served up the single least flavorful french fries I've ever encountered. It was like eating limp, barely cooked potatoes. For a brewpub, its beer list was woeful unless you like pale ales. I ended up drinking something that tasted like liquid Sour Patch Kids. Our server didn't speak much English, which is fine. I'm visiting his country and the menu was in English. I'm just mentioning that in case you prospective diners have a weak Spanish game. They did have some nice live music, which was cool. But the food and beer was a huge letdown, and that's the main reason you go to a place like this. Disappointing. It's in a very convenient location especially if you are walking back from the beach back into the city. We got the sour sampler. I love sours and these needed some work. They are tasted like juice. Overall atmosphere is super chill however, they have a 10% terrace fee if you want to sit outside. Most places in Spain DO NOT charge this fee. At first we sat outside, but moved indoors after we saw this "terrace" fee. Once we went inside no one came to take our order so after 10 minutes of no service we moved to the bar. Service at the bar was awesome! I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and was super excited as they said it was soaked in miso. However, after 15 minutes I was told they had no more Philly Cheesesteak!? I literally saw the chef make some 10 minutes ago. So I ordered the Salmon Poke Salad. Big mistake one of the WORST Poke dishes I have ever had. It literally just tasted like coconut milk with no spices. It was so gross, but I was hungry so I just ate it. My friends ordered fries and guacamole with chips and both of those dishes were awesome! My friends love beer and said the beer was good. I am not a beer person, so I ordered the Pims Cup. The Pims Cup was actually really good..they poured a good amount of Pims and mixed it with ginger ale, mint, and grapefruit. Overall, we had a good time, but my Poke Salad brought down the experience. Come here for drinks and fries, but skip the food! We ordered the Cobb salad which was a modest sized salad deconstructed into delicious avocado, and a tasty bacon. The pollo dos Herman is half-serving was more than enough to satisfy us. The black ink squid burger is really nice if you want to embrace your inner goth. Seriously it's freaky to eat something this color but believe me it is really tasty. Definitely something out of the ordinary that you should try if you're feeling adventurous but that is only on an aesthetic level as if you closed your eyes you wouldn't expect it to look like it does. Amazing dining experience from start to finish. I can go on and on about how much I adored BlackLab, but I will keep it short. The restaurant is very well decorated, and has an extremely welcoming aura that makes you want to stay there forever! They have a comprehensive menu of your basic "American" classics -- burgers, wings, ribs, pulled pork, and fries to name a few. There are even some cool Asian dishes for you to try, though I didn't this time around. Now, the real kicker here is the beer! They have a list of beers that they brew IN-HOUSE, ranging from pales to darks to IPA's, and a list of guest beers on tap that come from different countries. Phenomenal! Since coming to Spain, it's been forever since I found a joint that served foreign beer, so BlackLab is really the place to go if you're down for a great brew. Want some beer? This is a cool spot to go to. I tried Granny's Brewery which is a hot beer with some apple and topped with cinnamon and cream. Clearly like a warm apple pie. The interior of the place has such a cool and chill vibe. There's a bar when you first enter and if you turn left there's a place for you to eat and drink; if you turn right you'll see the dining area. Best beer I found in Spain! 5 stars for a true brewery feel and actual good tasting beer (which is surprisingly really hard to find outside of the USA). It seems that they're always updating the beer offerings. We tried a couple of different IPAs, and an Imperial Stout - all very good and comparable to the styles I'm used to drinking back home. Go here for the beer! However, I can't give a full 5 stars for the overall review due to the food. I think the "Gastro-Pub" label here is very misleading. We sat on the patio for a couple hours, and saw various dishes coming out, none of which appeared very inventive or intriguing. The one dish we tried were the Nachos with Beer Cheese - thinking that beer cheese would be a very safe option since it was being served at a brewery. We were very disappointed by both the texture and taste of the beer cheese. It was more grainy than smooth, but what really got to me was the lack of beer flavor in the beer cheese! They weren't the worst nachos I've had in my life - definitely a step up from ballpark or movie theater nachos... but definitely nothing to come back for. read more

Go for the beer, don't stay for the food. When I first came to this restaurant, I was amazed by how well they cooked the beer battered fries and marinated the pulled pork. Although the beer at this place is good, the food simply falls flat. I don't know what happened in the two months I have eaten there, but all of sudden it turned into a tourist hub of overpriced lacklustre food. The beer battered fries used to be thin and crispy with a distinct flavour. Now it barely even has flavour. If you order ketchup with your fries, they serve you this house made ketchup that is watered-down. In fact most of the things you order now are watered-down. The pulled pork, on the other hand, is dry as hell. It tastes like it is cooked from frozen and it is quite disappointing when you embarrass yourself telling your friends how good this resto used to be. read more

Stopped here twice while in Barcelona. Good beers executed to style by a nice American brewer. Wait staff all speak English and were very accommodating. Went through 2 full samplers of 12-14 beers each with our small group. A couple nice kettle sours, solid IPA, a barrel aged sour, nice stouts. Good patio and comfortable nice seats inside. Went to lots of craft beer bars while in Spain and Italy this trip and in hindsight the beers here were above par - the service was excellent. Cheers! read more

Delicious lunch! The beers were excellent. I had the pink lady which is a fruit beer. It was delicious! We had spring rolls for an appetizer. They had tofu in them and were very yummy. I had the portobello mushroom burger. It was tasty. It also came with fries and some delicious dipping sauce. I also sampled the Reuben which was tasty, it wasn't like your typical Reuben more of a pulled pork, but it was still delicious. Staff are very nice and speak pretty good English. After wandering Barcelona for hours we were exhausted and looking for somewhere we could casually sit outside and enjoy some food and drink. Black lab looked welcoming and there were just enough people where we felt like it was a popular place. Plus located on a main road there would be no shortage of people watching. It is seat yourself outside and once we sat down a waiter came to greet us and immediately brought us English menus which was nice. We started with some appetizers and drinks. The first was the nachos with chili. They came out with a funny beer cheese completely smothering the top that to be honest didn't look all that appetizing. The chips ended up getting so soggy that after 5 minutes it wasn't much of a nacho bowl any more. The second dish we got were the ribs. They came out deep fried. Not that they were bad but very unexpected and flavorless. The menu didn't mention this and there was no sauce with them go add back flavor. The French fries were actually fantastic and were served with a citrus aioli that was also great. I had the falafel burger and it was different but light and good. From glancing at other tables it seems like burgers are the best option here. For drinks the cava was an easy win. Cheap and good. Beer looked fantastic and the service was good! On my quest to hit the top brew pubs in Barcelona, i came upon this place. It had a nice feel as you entered with a big screen at one end of the dining area for watching the soccer (football) games. I started with the Japanese tea ipa and really enjoyed it. For the entree, I had the Rueben, which probably was not their signature dish. But who cares, I came here for the IPA. The brew vats were right behind me as I ate, giving me a homey feeling. I followed the Japanese tea with the El Cunado which was a Rye IPA with citrus overtones, which I normally don't care for, but this one was good and didn't leave you with the overt grapefruit taste. Their array of craft beers was impressive and my vote of 4 stars was for that point alone. If you are on an IPA/craft beer pilgrimage in Barcelona and don't want tapas and bland lagers, make this one of your stops. read more
