Food- one of my favorite meals while in Mexico City! We didn't order much because we were full from a meal before but ordered what we could. What we got: MUST HAVE AGAIN: 1. If you like octopus: Tacos de carnitas de pulpo (fried octopus carnitas). This didn't seem fried but oh my gosh it was SO tender and fresh and flavorful! Our whole table LOVED this. Highly recommend. 2. Scallop tostadas!! SO fresh/refreshing! 3. Fig Tart- It was so good! Tasted kind of like a fig cheesecake. We heard it was the most popular desert and got lucky because our waiter Edgar saved it for us!! Thank you so much Edgar! Tasty but would go for something else next time: 1. Tacos de esmedregal al pastor: Al pastor fish, onions, cilantro, pineapple I didn't get the soft shell crab taco but heard it was delicious so thought I'd toss that here!

One word to describe this experience: disappointing…read more As a preface, the service was outstanding. Our waiter, Ramon, was very kind and attentive, as was the manager. Beyond that, everything was shockingly mid! To start, we had the tuna and shrimp tostadas, which were quite good. As our main course, we had the pescado a la talla estilo contramar, which I was very excited about. The presentation was beautiful, and the waiter showing us how to serve the fish was a nice touch. HOWEVER, upon trying the food, we found that the fish was lukewarm and shockingly flavorless. Given Contramar's popularity and how highly regarded it is, I was expecting an explosion of flavor. The level of blandness was mind boggling. I swear they didn't put even a pinch of salt on the fish. I said something because it was shockingly bad. Thankfully, they brought another one out which I thought was better, albeit nothing that makes my mouth water thinking about it now. So me and my boyfriend were really holding out hope for the dessert. We're long distance (DC to CDMX) so every dinner we have together matters more, and I was really praying that the dinner would end on a high note. Unfortunately, they were OUT of the strawberry merengue. I will admit I was so disappointed that a few tears were shed. We ended up getting the fig tart that I liked but my boyfriend didn't. At least we bonded on the walk home--30 minutes of complaining! I would advise anyone reading this to pass on contramar unless you want to pay thousands of pesos to be disappointed.

They knocked down walls to adjoin all apartments on each floor, gutted them out, and placed dinning areas throughout. So you walk in and they tell you to go to the 2nd or 3rd floor and pick a table. That table can be in the past living room or past kitchen of an apartment. So cool! The whole ground floor is the kitchen and prep area. The front entrance is thru a open door between two taco stands, the door leads you into the past patio/common area of the apartments. There is no signs in the entrance, just flag an employee down in the patio area and they'll direct you to an open floor. All seafood dishes come with their famous paella, which is one of the best I've tasted. I had the best Octopus cocktail of my live here. The octopus was chunky and tender! I will visit this place every time I come to Mexico City!! They speak English and accept credit cards.

It was delish too. The pork dish tasted somewhat like kimchi soup with pork in it. (It was in a pot on the front row, second one from the left) On the way out, I saw paella and that looked amazing so had to be back to try next day.. It was not bad for $200ish pesos. It is nothing fancy but I loved it. If you are adventurous and want to try what locals eat, this is the place.
