Looking to camp within a couple hours of Louisville for Memorial Day weekend, my wife happened upon…read moreMiles Landing. After checking the website and the photos we decided to give it a go. One of the first things that caught my eye was the 1pm Checkout time. Most campgrounds are noon o'clock or even the much stingier 11am. 1pm checkout is AWESOME. The campground is more-or-less divided between tent camping and RV camping, with RVs on the left as you enter the park, tents to the right. My understand is that the tent camping area used to be the entirety of the campground, and RV part was a later add-on. The tent sites are very open and spacious, and you don't feel like you're stacked on top of each other. The campground is currently utilizing a contact-free check-in system. Once you arrive at your site you send a text to let them know you've arrived and someone will be right there to help get you situated. In our case Chad was there within five minutes to greet us and give us some information and said he'd be back to deliver our firewood in a little while. About 45 minutes later not only had he delivered the firewood, but he had stacked for us, also. We pre-ordered 6 bundles of firewood. These aren't your typical stingy-ass bundles of firewood, either. They're easily twice the size of the bundles you get at most campgrounds or convenience stores. The wood is also excellent quality. It catches fire easily and burns cleanly. Since we're tent campers we have to rely on the campground restroom and shower facilities (which we were very close to). The bathrooms and showers are in the same building. These are some of the cleanest and most well-maintained shower facilities we've ever seen, and we've camped in a lot of places. The campground has a few tent sites with electricity, but for the most part it's primitive camping. The entire tent camping section is very well-shaded and quiet. We took a drive through the RV section of the campground and it's pretty extensive and contours the water probably about a half mile. The RV sites, like the tent sites, are pretty spacious. This campground isn't all hype and activities like some campgrounds. There's not even a camp store. There are campsites and a shower house. That's it, and that is OK with us. We tend to enjoy the relaxation of camping, the feeling of getting away from things, and being outdoors. And that's exactly what Miles Landing is all about. We liked it so much that we already have our reservations for July 4 weekend. I have a feeling we'll be coming back here a lot.

Luckily we love the more off-the-beaten-path, crazy eclectic type places and this place certainly didn't disappoint! There is a feast for the eye in every nook and cranny you can find. Rooms of knickknacks, books, treasures, old magazines, toys, games, whatever you can name you'll probably find! This would certainly be a great place for a treasure hunt! Even finding photos of past visitors stored in some random book! See if you can find it if you visit! Like I said there's stuff everywhere so don't plan on a lot of space and the place is somewhat randomly thrown together. No rhyme or reason to anything but it's pretty darn cool as is Jim, the owner/operator. If you get some extra time to spend chatting with him I would recommend it. What great stories! But, You cant rent a room here if you smoke or watch Television. He says its not "touristy" to be a smoker. So it wouldn't be a good fit. I give it 1 star because he answered the phone and there is no lesser option. The room was comfortable, clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay and to do some work in my room. The view is nice if you have the river view. There are robes and slippers, which was nice since it was really cold. The shower was huge and I wish I'd explored the setting better. It would be a little loud at night with people talking and slamming doors, but that's probably everywhere to an extent. The things that could have been better were room service. I don't think they have it. In which case, you eat out or go down to the casino for a super smoky experience. I thought the casino would be fun and it was ok, but it wasn't Vegas - LOL. Also, my room came with breakfast, which was a small honor system buffet. It was nice to grab some coffee and a bagel before heading to my meetings. Though the Doubletree is my favorite hotel in the area, it was fun to try something different and I'd be open to staying at this property again.
