We went today, May 9, 2026 to celebrate my graduation. Everything was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious. Our server, Luke, was absolutely attentive and helpful. The ambience was beautiful and relaxing. We sat by the fireplace. I did not want to leave. It was so cozy. This was my first time at this location. My first 5-star fie 2026! The experience here was flawless. We were immediately seated and greeted by our waiter Will(fantastic by the way), Who throughly went through the menu and specials of the day by memory. You can tell he takes pride in his job and customers. We started with the crab dip which was really good. It came with pita which was a little too salty so I ate the dip with the mini cheddar biscuits they give the table. I got the crab cakes with spinach and whipped potatoes. The dish was 10/10. My friend got the special which was sea bass with rice and a vegetable. Will saw that the piece of fish was a little small so he had the kitchen bring out another piece. That fish didn't stand a chance once It hit the table lol. I was able to take half of my food home(they give you 2 decent size crab cakes). The food tasted even better the next day lol. Wow, wow, wow, this place is beautiful, the food was delicious, and the service was great. My husband and I had a great date night and enjoyed some live music while having food at the bar. I will say this: the restaurant was packed on a Friday at 6pm, and reservations are highly recommended. I will give big props to the restaurant management for your bar chairs. My husband and I are always reluctant to sit at the bar because the stools are so uncomfortable, but not here; they were so comfortable, I felt as if I was sitting at a table. Thank you for that. To the food... we had a solid French onion soup, very cheesy. A super flavourful and so tender steak, and the Chesapeake pasta was creamy, and the flavor was like a combination of a lobster bisque and cream of crab. Very good. The place is beautiful from the outside, and much bigger on the inside if you take the walk to look around. When you enter it seems tight because it is. First recommendation, reserve a table in advance they get very busy on the weekends. The crowd was a good sign. Unfortunately the food was just okay, mediocre even. The shrimp and grits missed, and the pastas flavor decided not to show up to the party. Now the shrimp and crab cake which I did not have but my table mates didn't and they loved it. The. Header biscuits...I almost forgot, they were good but I want in love with the chive butter. And why did they ask if we were celebrating a special occasion, which we were and they don't give the honoree a basic dessert or something. That's neither here or there. Overall once this a 3, I'd go back and try something else. I wouldn't order the pasta or shrimp and grits again. read more

First time to visit with a birthday celebration. The facility is top tier. The wait staff was superb. The entrees were unbelievably delicious. The soup, salad, desserts, were all amazing. We've been to Blackwall several times and it keeps slipping down a notch. My wife got the risotto and she felt it was too salty. I got the short rib sandwich. It was a bit bland and under-seasoned. I know that seasoning is a personal preference. However, the sandwich also seemed very dry for a braised beef. The service is still good but I feel like they're struggling to keep someone good in the kitchen. We're going to give them some time before we go back. read more

Blackwall is a nice neighborhood spot with good drinks, good food, and chill vibes. Good for a casual meal, family dinner, or date night. Their happy hour is pretty decent with $5 wine by the glass, $9 cocktails, and half off pizzas. The place has a very cozy feel with fireplaces and a cute covered patio that is open year-round. Service is always good but it can get pretty busy so a reservation is a must, especially on a weekend. This visit we got the tavern burger and the NY Strip. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender and flavorful. My husband almost always gets the tavern burger and enjoys it. I didn't get it this time but I do really like the Chesapeake pasta. Blackwall Barn & Lodge was seriously impressive. There was so much food--and all of it was good. They had everything from made-to-order omelettes and waffles to prime rib and ham. I'm talking options for days, and every bite delivered. I kept saying "wow" the whole time because the variety and quality were that strong. The drinks were a little sweet for my taste--I tried two mocktails--but the Americana coffee was really good and balanced everything out. We visited the restaurant for my grandmother's birthday! The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and the hostess immediately wished my grandma a happy birthday before promptly seating us. We ordered the crab dip and the calamari which were both very tasty. I had the shrimp scampi pizza which was delicious and my grandmother's birthday had the lamb chops which she said were the best she ever had! This location always hits it out of the park. The atmosphere is cozy, comfortable and even can be romantic. The service is attentive and happy to share solid recommendations. For example, I was steered away from my dish idea and even my second to this solid performer. While it didn't need hot sauce, I wanted more zing. But the flavor and amount of "scrimps" were perfection. Prior to this was the hot crab dip which is a wonderful app here. Not all hot crab dips are created the same but this one is the right amount of crab and cheesy goodness. For whatever you're in the mood, make the trek here for an exceptional experience. read more

It was my first time visiting the restaurant. I went to a R&B and Jazz night. The restaurant was very nice inside. The customer service was good. The food was ordered: BBQ Wings, Barn Fries, and Maryland Crab Dip. The food was flavorful and good. I don't remember the drink I ordered, but it was good. They have a room where you can have events there. The bathroom was clean. The parking was a little problem, but a spot was eventually found. I think it was hard to find parking because of the event there that night. There weren't many people on the restaurant side. I would go back and try something else. read more

My parents, uncle, and I went to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. We ordered the duck fat fries, fried green tomatoes, and the calamari for appetizers. We all ordered different entrées, and they were not as good as they previously were when we visited this restaurant. Our server was very friendly and gave great information about the daily specials that were available, but the pork belly was super fatty and Brussels sprouts were super salty. Visited on a gorgeous Saturday May night, seated in the open outdoor section. After looking over the menu and asking about suggestions, 4 of us shared the flaming crab dip, hot wings, and duck fat fries. The hot wings were the highlight, huge wings and a tangy not-really hot sauce. I would pass on the duck fat fries. My friends ordered the short rib and Chesapeake pasta, and loved them. I tried the chicken pot pie, which the waitress mentioned is a winter item and will be coming off the menu soon. The flaky top was flaky! The chicken was shredded with fresh vegetables. The base was a little more soupy than I'd like, but still very flavorful and I finished every bit of it. Highly recommend Blackwall Barn. Friend and I decided to take the drive to Blackwall Barn & Lodge because I heard the buffet style brunch was the best!! Little did we know they break down the buffet and hour before they stop serving. That was a disappointment but since we were already over there, we decided to stay for lunch. The server was really nice, knowledgeable and attentive which was a plus is staying! I was not impressed with the food and a lot of seafood items which I can't indulge in, which my friend got to try. She tried the crab dip and didn't seem all that impressed but also not disappointed. I went with the cajun, chicken-Sausage Alfredo and it wasn't bad but man they were stingy with the sausage! What a yummy spot in Gambrills! We stopped by for lunch after some golf in the area and were so pleasantly surprised. The interior is really cozy and feels very loungey. We got fried green tomatoes and complimentary cheddar biscuits to start. The tomatoes were so yummy and there was a pepper topping that had a kick/heat to it. The biscuits were sooooo good. Like an elevated version of your favorite cheddar bay biscuits. Service was quick and friendly and we sat at the bar but had several folks attending to us. We both got the vodka lemonade (peach and blueberry) and I found them both way too sweet. We tried the hot honey chicken sandwich which was 10/10 and the fries were so crispy. I always have a fantastic time at the Blackwell Barn and Lodge in Gambrills, MD! When we arrived for our reservation for two, we were greeted warmly and taken right to our seats. Our server, Ryan, was fantastic! He was attentive and funny; we never had to chase him down for drink refills. He even shared some great menu suggestions, including a few of his favorites. We kicked things off with the crab dip, which was delicious. I remember it used to be served in a fun crab-shaped bowl that was lit on fire right before it came to the table, and I think it had more chunks of crab in it back then. For our main courses, we tried the Chicken Pot Pie and the braised short rib. That Chicken Pot Pie? It's probably one of the best I've had in this area! The pastry was perfectly golden and flaky, with just the right mix of chicken and veggies--no soggy bottom in sight! As for the braised short rib, it was so good that it disappeared in no time. Very cute restaurant! Visited during Valentine's period (the day before) and they had a prefixe menu option for Valentine's Day. They had a guitarist playing live music which was pleasant. It was kind of weird that the items on the pre fix menu weren't on the regular menu at all so if you saw something you liked you have to order all three courses to get it. All the food was good. I was with a party or 5 and there were no complaints about the food. I will say the strawberry lemonade wasn't sweet. I ended up ordering something else to drink. I'm finding it hard to believe that I have never revireviewed this location. Clement really showed the professionalism and care BWB&L has for their patrons. We had to make last minute plan changes and needed a table for 13 guests at a new restaurant less than a week out. We ended up having to make two separate reservations for our party so the meant two tables and we'd be separated on the inside and outside patio area. Clement stepped in when I informed him of a problem and over delivered! Most well over prompromise & under deliver, it felt awesome to be treated the opposite. Our server Kia(sp) was very attentive and informative about what dishes were their favorite and gave recommendations based off preference. We ordered a lot of dishes from appetizers like fried lobster tail, calamari, & fried green tomatoes to their entrees of crabcake, shrimp, and salmon. Make sure when ordering drinks, you specify if you want a cocktail or mocktail. When I ordered my Mango Blossom, which was nothing short from amazing, our server announced loudly, "Mocktail" but didn't for the other ladies who ordered MTs and cocktails ultimately came for them instead. Our server begrudgingly exchanged them out after repeating "That's why I said Rum Smash" which wasn't helpful since the MT is the Strawberry Hibiscus Smash and the CT is the Strawberry Hibiscus Rum Smash. If she had announced "Mocktail" as loudly when taking my order, it might have been perceived better. . . . It became a little cold on the patio and Clement jumped into action again to fix the heater that was being stubborn and wanted a special touch before turning on. We didn't want to leave but had other plans so we grabbed a couple group photos and skedaddled on out. My first time visiting here didn't disappoint. I really liked the atmosphere and ambiance that the place gives. Our server (can't remember his name, unfortunately) was very well versed in the menu options and took the time to explain the choices available as well as the catch of the day. If there was one disappointment, it was that it appears that they cook their seafood in the same oil. My wife has a shrimp allergy and made this aware to the server. When she was going to select a particular seafood item, he alerted her to the very strong possibility of cross contamination. I appreciated his honesty but was disappointed to learn that this possibility even existed. I felt that the restaurant was upscale enough to be able to avoid that possibility and be able to offer all of its patrons quality food that doesn't endanger their health and taint the dining experience. read more
